That's my fault, the help is very unclear about where it is. I will fix.

And yes, I do need to add a preference search function.
3802
It's in a weird place -- it's on the "Quick Bar and Post Cap" tab, which is the second one down in "Advanced Tweaking."

The option you want is "Override filename bypasses quickfield".

Hi Ertan --

That happens when the child window is on top of a parent window AND it's trying to capture transparency.

So you have two choices:
  • Move the child window off of the parent when capturing.
  • or Disable the attempt to capture transparency around the border.  For this try disabling the option "Try to capture Aero Glass transparency effects" on the "Window Capturing 1" tab (and maybe also the "Try to detect (active) window transparent.." on the "Window Capturing 2" tab).

Let me know if that works for you!

Find And Run Robot / Re: [bug report] unwanted search folders cannot be deleted
« Last post by mouser on March 31, 2017, 03:22 AM »
They aren't real folders -- they are a new feature so FARR recreates the entries for them if it doesn't see them. The solution is to just UNCHECK them to have them be completely unused and have no effect.

Note: This latest new version will install into \Program Files\ on x64 machines, instead of \Program Files (x86)\ as the older version did, so you should uninstall old version if you are installing new on an x64 machine.
Your settings should still carry over.

It's interesting to hear your thoughts on this stuff.  You are fighting an uphill battle in trying to keep your text dpi setting to just 100% and yet hoping to be able to customize the font settings in each individual application.

I have provided such functionality in some of my programs (FARR and CHS), but the overhead to maintain such things makes it impractical for most of my apps, and it creates yet another set of user interface oddities that I have to try to plan for.

I am working hard now to properly support the official > 100% text font settings for high dpi configurations -- that seems to me the best way forward in the long term.

At some point the desire to completely customize the font settings, while admirable, seems like it may become not worth the effort, and biting the bullet to get used to the windows > 100% text size may be the way to go, despite it's imperfections..

As an aside -- one thing to be aware of when testing the windows high dpi (>100%) text settings is to make sure you reboot or logout afterwards, otherwise things are very glitchy until you do.

Well of course when I tried to report the false positive they won't let me -- I have to fill in detailed information proving I own OfficeScan, etc.

These security services should be run out of town the way they handle this stuff..

Oh dear lord that is absurd.  What kind of nonsense is that? Normally these antivirus companies decide to go rogue and falsely label a random program every once and a while.. But this one is warning against our entire site now and explaining it as some general "threat source"?  That has been "verified" no less.  Sigh.. I don't even know where to start other than to email them and complain.

Just to be clear, though I'm sure you already know, DonationCoder has for over a decade been free of any kind of malware, adware, fraud, trickery, etc. We never have gone near such things and we never will.

Thanks for the nice review, Iain. I will try to add the features you are mentioning.

Now regarding this:

The only shortcoming seems to be that the PT Configure pane suffers - in common with most other @mouser apps -  from the excessively minuscule and apparently 1-pixel thick character font, making it difficult to read without magnification or specs of some sort (for those with imperfect vision).

The new version should incorporate my fixes for high-DPI displays which should make for nice big clear fonts on a machine where you have text size set to larger than 100%, which presumably is what you are running?

Found it!
After a few hours of testing - deleting the Timezone plugin fixes my problem.

Good detective work!! That is very odd, it must be a simple misunderstanding in the timezone plugin that is telling FARR to stay open for some reason.

It depends whether the UI control is simple windows base control (like a common simple listview), or a more complicated custom control like a grid (FARR, CHS).

No problem -- a lot of sites automatically redirect everyone to https these days -- we may do that eventually but for now you have to remember to open https if you want the secure way in.

users were shown a grey padlock with a red strike-through, to indicate that the (DonationCoder) website they were visiting was not secure (passwords are transmitted insecurely and subject to MITM sniffing).

Make sure you open up https://www.donationcoder.com

We offer both http and https (secure) connection options.

The https one shows all copacetic green padlock to me.

This fills my requirement and mouser too, I hope

It's always a mixed feeling when we find a program that solves a problem.  I feel good that the program exists and I don't have to write it myself.  And I feel sad that there is no excuse to write it myself :(

General Software Discussion / Re: Find And Run Robot - Sort by _____
« Last post by mouser on March 26, 2017, 04:42 AM »
Hi there and welcome to the forum -- I'm glad you are liking the program.

Currently there is no way to sort by anything but score..  Mostly that's because FARR is designed with the idea that you will often be finding results with a very wide gap in scores and you will only really want the top scoring ones.

It is a tempting idea for a feature though, let me chew on it -- perhaps FARR could basically only display the very top scoring results, BUT for those top scoring results, sort them by name, date, etc.
