Karen (of Karenware) has been around forever and has some really nicely written freeware apps on her site.  Good stuff.

The "Convert record data to header names." sounds great (and much smoother), but it might be better to add it to the Edit menu where it can be found & used, and leave the context menu free for the other stuff that people are more apt to do frequently (Keep the menu less busy so they don't have to hunt for stuff).

Well, the Edit menu and the context menu (right-clicking the listview) are the same menu.    :D  It's almost to the unwieldy point but I think we can squeeze one more entry onto it.

(Sorry it took me awhile to make it back here) Yes, perfect ... The dynamic column creation is also quite nice. Thank you.

You're welcome.  Great to hear.

Is there any chance of adding an option to the import function to allow the (header row) first line of the file to be used as the column names? Similar to the radio button dialog the Excel sort function uses to keep the column names on top of a spread sheet.

This would interfere with the ability to drop multiple files onto the list so I was thinking of adding an entry to the context menu that would read something like "Convert record data to header names."  Follow me?

This whole badge thing is unfair.  it's totally programmer-biased.  I'll take any badge I can get.  How about an ass badge?  I think I'm pretty exceptional at being an ass.

Do you use Linux in any capacity?  If so, you can add that badge to your profile yourself.  Or, you can draw a picture of Cody and get a Cody badge.   :D

I stumbled upon a small JottiQ-bug: I can make JottiQ crash by opening/closing the About box several times.
I'm running the latest version on my laptop running Windows XP SP3.

Confirmed.  It crashes for me on the second time showing the About box.

I adjusted my first answer.   ;)

  • Why were the NANY applications coded?  List Numberer and Ten Timer were made upon request.  Snap DB was an app I had written some time ago for my personal use that I decided to flesh out and pretty up for a NANY release.
  • What IDE did you use, if any?  No IDE per se.  I use PSPad (which I have set up much like an IDE).
  • What language(s) is the application written in?  AutoHotkey
  • Does it rely on any 3rd party libraries / code / graphics?  A couple.  One for form/control resizing and another for the toolbar.  Neither are built-in to AHK.  The toolbar icons are taken from the Fugue set by Yusuke Kamiyamane
  • Were any clever design principles used?  Ehhh...a few?  Ten Timer is written in such a way that it could easily be "Hundred Timer" with the change of one value.  Snap DB uses some pretty in-depth listview manipulations.
  • Or any really hairy algorithms that you'd like to boast about?  Nope.
  • What was the trickiest part?  N/A
  • Would you like to make a mention of any other DC members who helped out?  Mouser, Perry and all the DC members that give feedback.

Can do.  Would you want the duplicated row added to the bottom of the listview or directly below the row you're duplicating?

I haven't really thought about it. From the point of view of my needs, either solution seems fine.

I added that feature in the last build.  It adds the duplicated record below the focused one.  You can also use F5 as a hotkey for that.   :)

Thanks, I like Snap DB even more now!

Fantastic.  I'm glad you find it useful.   :D

I'm not sure, but for me, it's the keyboard.

Agreed.  When I'm coding, I very rarely touch the mouse for anything.  All highlighting, cutting, pasting, line(s) duplication, line(s) deletion and line(s) up/down moving is handled by the keyboard alone.  When you use a capable editor, this stuff is trivial.

(As I can't set those off with one finger only.)

With Trout's hotkey system, you can assign single-key hotkeys.  Unless I'm misunderstanding you...

Is there another way please? The way it's done now, (as a keyboard user) I have to TAB twice to the "next" button and then TAB back twice to the "pause" button (which is the button I use most, and I like to be able to only use the space bar for the most often used function/button) just to get the standard random behavior (the player starting with a random file in random mode).

You can set local and global hotkeys for all these actions right within Trout.  Is that a workable solution?

Because you don't see any reason for it, or because it's to hard to implement?

Oh, I know the reasons for cue files and writing a basic parser for them isn't all that hard.  However, I don't use cue files enough to justify the development time with all the little idiosyncrasies involved with them.

It's essential to show correct track info for (ape, flac, wv etc) album files.

I don't like storing albums all in one file so, when necessary, I just use foobar or Medieval CUE Splitter to split a cue'd album into separate tracks.

Probably not going to happen for a long while (if ever).

If you just needed a simple folder/file maker, I could extend my Text 2 Folders application to cover files and basic template saving.  The custom content stuff is much more involved.

General Software Discussion / Re: Editor able to handle very large files
« Last post by skwire on January 17, 2011, 12:59 PM »
You can also try HiEditor.  It's a small, free editor written in assembly that handles large files very well.  It's not a completely full-featured editor like some but I think it might do the job for you.  Here's a local download:  http://skwire.dcmembers.com/apps/misc/HiEditor.zip

As an aside, the HiEdit control is available, too.  I've used it in some AHK projects I've written.  Neat control.

I found this weird bug. When I right click the header of the ninth column, I don't have the option to "rename column", instead I got the "Add record.." context menu.

I've seen this occasionally.  Try resizing the columns or swapping positions and back.

Also, it could be a good idea to have the option to use the first row as column headers when you import from a CSV file.

I thought about making this an option since not all CSV files have the headers as their first row.

Thank you for the lastest updates.

You're welcome.  =]

Just wanted to give my heartfelt thanks for a fabulous little piece of software.
Living near the flood stricken region of SE QLD Australia I found myself safe but without phone, TV, radio or mobile phone reception yet amazing still had internet connection.
Your program enabled me to tune into the local and regional radio stations and get the latest news, and updates on the flood and road closures.
Thank you!

That's an awesome first post.
