Living Room / Re: Wanted: Electronic/Searchable Holy Books
« Last post by Grorgy on January 05, 2008, 06:27 PM »
Just went on a bit of a search, this site seems to have lots of stuff that could be useful,

http://www.sacred-texts.com/about.htm

And from their site a quote:

This site is a freely available archive of electronic texts about religion, mythology, legends and folklore, and occult and esoteric topics. Texts are presented in English translation and, where possible, in the original language.

This site has no particular agenda other than promoting religious tolerance and scholarship. Views expressed here are not necessarily endorsed by the hosting organization (sacred-texts.com), our ISP or any sponsoring individuals or organizations.

ohhh since she is a student, she may be able to get MS office 2007 quite cheaply.  That promotion they had last year here in Australia, and a bit later in most other countries, is back on again here, so it may be worth looking at.  $75 AUS for the licence i think.

No I'm sorry, I use the word processor part only sometimes as a RTF editor as I find it's quick to load and easy to use and has a spell checker and if i decide i want to convert to a word doc it easy to do.  But i got it for $4 from Ashampoo when i got the burning studio, couldn't see how i could go too far wrong there.  I tried open/star office for a semester and went out and bought MS Office 2003  :-[  I just couldn't get used to them, they seemed so similar which may have led me to expect everything to be the same, which of course it isn't.

Maybe the one from Ashampoo,  rebadged from softmaker (http://www.softmaker.de)  ( http://www.softmaker.com/english/ , if your german isnt real good lol) textmaker and plan maker and i think there is a new presentation program in the new suite.  Softmaker seem to have academic pricing on the old version (2006) as well.

Ive been using a little belkin wireless router for 18 months or so, works wellfor me, though i do usually plug in rather than use it as wireless, but the wireless hasn't let me down when i've needed or wanted it. It has WPA and all that stuff (I'm a bit like Curt, i dont understand a lot of it but i got it all turned on anyway lol)  and the price was right, considerably cheaper than most of the others.  I did have to get the first one replaced after a few weeks, they had received a  bad batch of them apparently, and 1 phone call and I had a new one, so no complaints with their customer service from me.

ESET in Australia anyway, have good academic pricing, students get 50% off, makes it affordable, you do need a student id number and preferably an email address for the institution you are at where the licence can be sent.

(Edit was just to make it a bit clearer, even i was having trouble with it lol time for bed he says as 3.30 rolls around again)

There was a TV show here in Australia, with a guy called Andrew Denton who was inspired by Rolf Harris and his version of Stairway to Heaven, each week he would have a different person in to do their versions of it, some spoken some sung.  He compiled a CD of it all eventually, about 50 different versions of Stairway to Heaven (edit--more than 25 but i cant find a pic or exact number and i'm too lazy today to look any harder).  Now that is overkill, lol

It appears that the members of this forum have, by and large, had negative experiences of registry cleaners, tinman, Ive used them now with nothing but positive results for quite a while, JV16 and registry mechanic (i got it free off a magazine lol).   I hope you can sort out the problems you are having, if they are going to have that sort of charging it should be in nice big letters on the main page so it cant be missed.
