Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: XYplorer File Manager
« Last post by sri on November 10, 2007, 11:09 PM »
Perhaps the developer should create a poll (if he hasn't already) as to how many people want the dual pane feature. :-\

Lack of it is what's keeping me away from an otherwise good file manager.

And I thought it's just me. I too experience the issue of mouse cursor not changing into hand shape when it's on links some times. Also, when the keyboard shortcuts don't seem to be working, just minimize and maximize Opera. That will fix it instantly.

Version: 9.50 beta
Build: 9613

I use Quicknote

Thank you very much. Quicknote is excellent. It's exactly what I asked for in the initial post and has few other useful features like reminders.

In the case of password managers there really is no debate. RoboForm is the best.

xplorer2 is a great program. It's faster than DOpus and XYPlorer.

To me

xplorer2:DOpus/XYP :: Opera:Firefox.

Firefox might be the more popular one; but when it comes to raw sheer speed, Opera wins hands down.

Speaking of CMS, here's one I discovered recently. It looks simple and ideal for a small site:

My Recommended Host is DreamHost. Check out http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting.html.

I pay about $4 a month for the following:

# Disk Storage at signup: 200 GB (Automatically Increases Weekly By: 1 GB)
# Monthly Bandwidth at signup 2 TB (Automatically Increases Weekly By: 16 GB)
# MySQL Databases Unlimited
# E-Mail Accounts (POP/IMAP) 3,000
# Shell/FTP Users: 75
# 1 Free Domain registered for an year
# Domains Hosted: Unlimited

I think the current plans will provide you even more. Their uptime is good and as to service, well their wiki is so thorough I never needed to raise a support ticket. Don't forget that there are several $97 coupons floating around. You may want to check my blog posts.

"DC's forum engine because it is hands-down the best I've seen anywhere."

Then I would say you haven't seen enough. IMO, vBulletin is the most featured and best forum script. But of course, it's not free.

If you need help w/ installation of a CMS or blog or forum etc. for your site, feel free to contact me.

Living Room / Start Your Own Job Site With jobberBase
« Last post by sri on November 04, 2007, 09:58 PM »
jobberBase is a new open source PHP/MySQL script using which you can set up a job site (thereby acting as a bridge between the job givers and job seekers).

I wrote a detailed post about its features and also presented a tutorial on how to install jobberBase on your shared hosting account. Check it out if you are interested:

I use TexNotes Pro, but I'm afraid GemX is having too many problems.
Want to try TreeDBNotes Pro, but their site never works right.
Does anyone else have trouble downloading from:

Thanks.

Nope. I mirrored it (after zipping) for ya at http://www.divshare....download/2605428-5f1

..... You can exclude processes using the tray menu.
..

Can you please elaborate? I don't see an option to exclude processes from the tray menu.

Speaking about the product itself, can it translate a group of words (i.e., a selection of sentence or sentences)? If it doesn't, is there any alternative (freeware preferred) for German->English?

General Software Discussion / Re: Word Press & Widgets
« Last post by sri on October 24, 2007, 10:31 PM »
Tom,

My shared Google Reader items are in the first right sidebar titled 'RSS Feeds'. Currently there's only one item that reads "How I Made $21,496.95 in Just 2 Weeks!PaymentBlogger".

Did you try uninstalling the widgets plugin and reinstalling it? If still no dice, I can log in as admin and look into it, if you wish. In case you are doubtful about my credibility, I run http://www.scriptinstall4free.com. :)

« Last post by sri on October 24, 2007, 10:41 AM »
Tom,

It should be a very simple thing to do. Go to widgets section of your WP admin, drag a RSS widget to the sidebar, click on the little icon to the right of it, enter the feed URL and name.

I just did the same and you can see my Google Reader shared items in the first sidebar (at the right) of my blog.

If you want, I can create a screencast and show you.

General Software Discussion / Re: Can Open Source apps compete with commercial ones?
« Last post by sri on October 23, 2007, 11:14 PM »
The following is just my opinion.

FileZilla may be a worthy open source FTP client, but it's no match to the commercial FlashFXP.

KeePass sucks especially after you've tasted the goodness of RoboForm.

In my opinion

http://FileZilla is my choice of ftp client
http://AutoHotkey is my choice of macro language
http://VLC is my choice of video player (but not perfect)
http://Locate32 is my choice of file-search
http://KeePass is my choice of password manager (but not perfect)
http://JkDefrag ismy choice of defragmentation tool
http://Notepad++ is my choice of text-editor

I think I'll keep it to that just now. Definately all are competitive even if its not your favorite. Obviously what is better depends on your needs but they're my best programs in their category.

394
I didn't try it yet. But looks like it doesn't have a auto-hiding dock containing the common capture modes (called OneClick in SnagIt)

http://www.scriptful...s/SnagIt/SnagIt.html
395
I use Screen VidShot!! i think it is the best tool!!! :D

What has VidShot got to do w/ screenshot capture? From what I see, it's a screencasting program and a paid one, at that.

Jing is currently the best fit for what the original poster asked for. It's free, let's you take a screenshot and upload w/ the least number of clicks w/ uploaded URL auto-copied to the clipboard.

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Flock: Web2.0 and all that buzz
« Last post by sri on October 22, 2007, 05:05 AM »
Is anyone using the latest version, 1.0 beta?

My main menu bar has disappeared (File, Edit, View..).

Posting in Flock's official forum didn't help (either they ignore those seeking help or apparently are clueless themselves).

Any ideas?

Thanks for the recommendation Grorgy.

I gave Y! Widgets another try and am using it now. They have reduced the memory consumption a lot. With many widgets (10), it's taking up only 23MB.

General Software Discussion / Looking for a small dockable, auto-hide notepad
« Last post by sri on October 21, 2007, 11:16 PM »
Is there a light-weight freeware program using which I can quickly jot down notes when working on my PC? It should be dockable and auto-hide when the mouse is not over it. Also should support auto-save.

I guess I could use yahoo widgets or Google desktop search sidebar, but they consume significant amount of memory.

Thanks for any pointers.

Post New Requests Here / Re: ahk script to open tabs by hovering
« Last post by sri on October 20, 2007, 11:06 PM »
I've put together a small script for mIRC tab click on hovering. It's slightly buggy and works only if you have Macro Express (or its player) installed.

To avoid repetitive clicking when on the tab (actually anywhere on the tab bar), I wrote the line that will move the mouse away after clicking once.

Just posting the screenshot of the code:

A revision creation is currently being triggered by ctrl+S of watched item.

Is it possible to have this program create a revision only when I select a button (that would be visible in the alert upon ctrl+S)?
