Bugs are merely features that nobody requested ;)

I wonder how you'll manage the site, fixing bugs and producing the screencasts :)

Developer's Corner / Re: Need suggestion for a SourceForge alternative
« Last post by housetier on July 27, 2009, 06:20 AM »
I can also suggest berlios.de, which is sort of a clone of sourceforge. However, berlios suffered from poor performance in the past, I don't know how reliable they are now, so I cannot recommend it.

I'd love to see this project catch on.

It's time for new and disruptive technologies for the people.

I couldn't do without Adblock Plus.

However, I have come to like Vimperator A LOT, because I also love vim.

Better Privacy and NoScript I use to protect a little more of my privacy (I hope it works).

And because I still haven't found a decent replacement for Google Reader, I use Google Redesigned to do away with the boring default look.

Jibz's Tools / Re: Dina in Firefox with Stylish

Now that I have seen it, I have to consider trying stylish myself to improve the "web experience" of some sites.

Thanks for the idea :)

It's simply amazing what they can show on buildings! Color me impressed  :onfire: :onfire: :onfire: :onfire: :greenclp: :greenclp: :greenclp: :greenclp:

You could strive to have different experiences.

I know mine differ, so I believe there is a possibility for you to also have less saddening experiences. For example Visual Studio works quite well on Windows, so I should think that makes programming easier. And then I have yet to find a movie that mplayer won't play.

As far as text editing goes... I think there is a good solution for every need. My needs are very small so I can make do with vim and textile or markdown. Others will be rather happy with (La)TeX because they will finally get superb-looking results. Then there is OpenOffice which like the expensive counterpart from Microsoft has more features than the average user will ever know.

Yeah it's a matter of perspective...

How about we queue up all the Requestors (REQ) who want the Element of Interest (EoI); then the Current Holder (CH) sends the EoI to the first REQ.

In order to do that the CH contacts the first REQ from the Waiting Queue (WQ) by way of this forum's personal message (PM) system for exchanging routable postal addresses.

Then the CH packs up the EoI, applies proper postage to the package and sends it to the first REQ. The CH then ceases to be CH; only after receiving the package with the EoI inside will the first REQ become CH, vacating the post of the first REQ to the next REQ in the WQ.

The WQ is a simple FIFO queue, which means the REQs will state their interest of becoming CH of the EoI by posting a public message here.

Sound complicated? Check the Joint Routing Protocol, which is even more elaborate and doesn't include postage ;)

I completely disabled tracking of history, form values or passwords. I only use my bookmarks (which need to be shrunk) and my brain.

Since I open most new urls from my feedreader, I only have to search through all the item there if I need to go back to an old entry/url.

I suggest you look at jquery.

There are other very very good javascript frameworks out there. I believe Prototype is one suche framework; but there are more.

Pick one and study it, they have all sorts of neat functions that also will work in many browsers.

I have only used jquery myself, hence I recommend it firs.

Mircryption / Re: Please I need help with blowssi/mircrytpion: 3 problems
« Last post by housetier on July 09, 2009, 05:23 AM »
This will be very confusing because we have to deal with so many issues at once...

Regarding system-wide autoload: I assume irrsi does not always work the way documentation says, even if you happen to find documentation.

And it is important to actually quote the whole complete error message and not the user's interpretation of same.

I have categorized my 200+ feeds in my feed reader, one category is "unread" in which everything not important or vague goes. One other category is "read" in which everything important and interesting goes, that must be read. "unread" is for times when I have read everything else. I am used to this setup, so I won't use nextfeeds.

That being said, I think others might welcome guidance in sifting the chaff from the wheat. I know some people want to keep in the loop, but are overwhelmed by the sheer size of that loop.

Finding it on rapidshit & co does not add credibility at all though. At first I thought it might be a copy from questionable sources.

Now, I downloaded it and had a look: it's a HTML e-book which is nice. It looks different from the usual ripped off e-books. I couldn't find a date so I don't know how recent it is. Also, at first glance I could not find out how to contact the author, i.e. for feedback, corrections.

Furthermore, there does not seem to be a license attached so I don't know if I am allowed to "use" the book or distribute copies. In times like these where publishers and distributors are suing people left and right, I want to be sure I won't get into trouble by using or copying the book. Again, I only skimmed the book, I did not read it fully.

Maybe I didn't see the license and contact information because I wasn't using the preferred internet explorer to view the book. Maybe I am getting blind.

If the book is free or even put into public domain, it should say so; if it is not, it should say so as well. I am super touchy when it comes to copyright, licenses, copying, distributing.

It looks like a decent compilation though...
