I agree.I here of alot of people deciding to boycott Sony.On an the audio aspect this would be easy, plenty of
Artists on different labels,as far as portable players, they're are many great alternatives, you don't even have
to go the iPod route (i own an iPod 20gig,not impressed)but when it comes to video games, the playstation
dominates.I haven't owned a gaming console since Super nintendo so i don't much about games anymore
but i hope Nintendo dominates them.I for one will make the effort to look on the back of Cd's before i purchase.

Not Van Zant's fault obviously, but hopefully consumer backlash will dictate this out of control DRM crap.

General Software Discussion / Re: Windows Quirk

I know you can scroll through desktop items with the arrow keys and select an item by the first letter ,personally i don't do it that much but just tried it to see if my responses where delayed that much, they're not
My selections are instant, zero wait, nada.I'm no expert but i don't think this would have to do with memory, graphics card, etc.Anything hardware shouldn't be causing this in other words. But there should not be a delay. Are you sure you don't have something running in the background like a mouse driver or keyboard driver you install from a cdrom
that came from a recent purchase of a Mouse or keyboard?

Sorry i responded to your question with a question, but i do believe their shouldn't be a delay.

Yeah,30 bucks here and 30 bucks there to get a key to unlock extra components is not my cup of tea.And there
is an argument to be had over the way they do updates.I totally understand applications have bugs that need
to be ironed out, nothings perfect, but downloading the whole app again when the app is so freakin huge is a pain.

That and i hear the retail boxed version of 7 already on shelves is basically out dated as far as the mpeg 4 codec and
maybe a few other features. They pushed back the online release date to Nov.2.So hmm, already on shelves but
pushing the online version back by a week or so.Was supposed to be Oct. 23rd i believe.Makes me glad i didn't
go out slap down my hard earned 80 bucks.

Cool, cool,i just downloaded sun's java 1.5.0.5 update and plan to use it.
Thanks for response.

I've been a long time user of Aheads software,Nero, but i'm starting to grow weary,no hatred,no disrespect towards
their product, just feeling a little experimental about looking for a replacement.Anyone out there know of a good
replacement.Something that can burn cd's and dvd's and dual layer dvd's,just got a dvd burner with dual layer
compatibilty and need something that can match wits with Nero.

Thank you.

I got all my hardware upgrade fix'ns today and going through with a fresh install. After a fresh install i start modifying
the OS(XP PRo) emediatly, menu's,updates, and crap i don't need or things that have been deamed security hazards,
i.e. Microsoft Virtual Machine.Microsoft actually released a tool to do this, which looks like they pulled, which concerns
me but i've checked Sun's Java site    http://www.java.com/...p/uninstall_msvm.xml and was planning
on using this method.

I guess what i'm asking, has anyone does this and are their any drawbacks?

Living Room / Re: Needed: DVD Audio > MP3 or WAV recommnedations?
« Last post by tinyvillager on October 17, 2005, 06:36 PM »
Try DVD2AVI,it gives you an option to decode the audio from dvd (vob files) to wav

I think you can get it here,
http://www.divx-dige...oftware/dvd2avi.html
Or check betanews.com

the original site http://arbor.ee.ntu.....tw/~jackei/dvd2avi/ is dead
but i know you can still get it and it does the trick, free too. There are other applications i just i can't pull any off
the top of my head at the moment,i wouldn't pay for something like this,it's a basic function in most dvd ripping
programs, search the divx forums,http://forums.divx.com/,pretty much any forums to do with video codecs will
go hand in hand with dvd ripping.

Living Room / Want to wet my beak with Linux, need suggestions on distro.
« Last post by tinyvillager on October 15, 2005, 02:01 PM »
Getting ready to install a large hard drive, and i want to expand my knowledge beyond windows but in the
same breathe need something that wouldn't be to much of a learning curve from the windows environment.
I plan on a distro i can purchase, don't want to download anymore and something under 100 bucks.
I've used various live distros in the past (let me tell downloading 300mb iso's on dialup that averages 44k is fun!)

I remember buying a version of Mandrake a few years back and it didn't recognize hardly any of my hardware.
Do commercial linux distro's,Mandrake, redhat, recognize hardware better these days,i.e.Radeon 9600 graphics
card,LITEON CD and DVD drives,etc.

 Thank you.

Living Room / Re: What did your first computer's hardware consist of ?
« Last post by tinyvillager on October 15, 2005, 01:39 PM »
Good lord!  Technology has come a long way.I remember that first night i used my computer,DID NOT SLEEP FOR AT
LEAST 24 hrs,at least. My blood pressure got low from lack of eating.I lived out in the sticks so all the ISP numbers where long distance on top of hourly charges for access.I used a graphical email client from Juno, they still exist as
an ISP now but only offered email back then. That was weird calling up a number just to get email. Now the first
computer i used was a Mac at school and it was to play Oregon Trail. And that monitor screen,it was like matted,
felt like panty hose.I'm sure there is a technical description for it.

Living Room / What did your first computer's hardware consist of ?
« Last post by tinyvillager on October 15, 2005, 11:51 AM »
Since i was going to crack open my computer for a DVD Burner install  i've decided to replace the hard drive
as well, going for 320 gig  :) This caused me to flash back to my first PC,back in 95 which was a Packard Bell,
66 mhz Pentium 1; 16 mb of RAM;2X Speed cdrom drive;and a hard drive that was 540 Megabytes! at i
believe  4200 RPM,might of been 5400 RPM,none the less noisy as hell,oh yeah let's not forget the 14.4 modem.

My mother purchased this for me for a little over $2000,which was a rip off even back then but she
wanted to surprise me and didn't know better. She bought it in monthly  payments through a catalog company,
fingerhut, who are still around but as since been taken to court for fraudulent interest practices.

Very Cool,thank you for response.

First off i'm a legit owner of Windows Xp Pro.A few weeks ago i was forced to activivate (genuine advantage crap) my PC.I just bought a new internal DVD burner and have messed around with a lot of software over the past year and even though i got a grip of registry cleaners and i comb through my registry with regedit i want a nice fresh start.
In short has anyone out there run into problems doing a second activivation,i got my key and all that good stuff.

Little rant,i hate online activation schemes.Google earth plus gave me a pop up saying it had been installed too many
times,i resolved it with a simple email. The software wasn't installed too many time it's just when i upgrade, well,i don't upgrade, i rip the old version completely out of my system and install the brand spankin new one.I'm worried
about my Divx Pro doing this as well.

Don't know if this what your looking for

http://www.highdots....ss-editor/index.html

I haven't used it so i can't vouch for it,and it's expensive so be careful but it looks like a beefy tool.
I came across their site because of a free css tab maker.

I think this is good for the consumer.I feel sometimes information is restricted from some cause of the
media format selected and this will hopefully solve some issues.I wish hardware manufacturers would
follow suite.

I would like the ability to right click menus when i pull them down, this is just about the only reason i don't
transition from firefox to Opera. Trust me i'm not bashing Opera, every since they did that free give away
i've been hammering away at it and really like. And not to start a war cause,o lord i have seen the perpetual
my browser is better than your thread far to many times(not here :)),Opera's bookmarking system drives me up the wall. That and it's interface should  come default with the go button next to the address bar,i about stroked out
finding that thing :-[ But yeah i dig Opera and would love to see someone build onto it.

Pure speculation here but a while back i had an email account through softhome.net,they have a web interface as
well as pop, anyhow there default spam settings were bouncing my mail deliveries, they used some sort of color
coded system that  really jacked things up http://www.softhome..../maint/spam-control/ anyhow this is what
messed me up,best of luck.
