Hi,

like not too many others, I'm reading *at least* a dozen books parallel - 4 pages here, 10 pages here, then 2 pages in yet another book. (None of which are fiction by the way.)

With regular (paper) books I can just use a physical bookmark, but for PDF files? Adobe Reader doesn't seem to have an option to open books where you closed them, are there other solutions out there?

Keeping track of page numbers in a txt file is cumbersome and not really the most elegant solution I can think of. If you ever faced this challenge, what did you do?

PS: no, my brain has no problems keeping track of the various content  8)

From my own experience with T-Clock
I had to google it: http://stoicjoker.com/TClock/ Thanks, I used TClockEx for years! A readme.txt in the archive would be nice, I want to know if I need to unpack the dll too or not.

Put the site in your forum signature! :)

« Last post by brotherS on March 19, 2009, 10:30 AM »
Ok let me go past them 1 by 1, thanks for the feedback by the way that drives this program!

You're welcome. :)

- make auto-marking tasks for closure an option; I prefer to mark them myself (very long PC uptimes here)
You use JCST in a new way that I haven't thought of! Excellent :) - I thought the auto marking was the reason for using JCST. So please help me understand why you use JCST. Then I can support that kind of use better. So if you can confince me then I'll build in the option haha.

Well, I most often have between 30 to 50 windows opened at any given moment. I sometimes forget to close some, and I like the way JCST displays them, but don't want to close *all* those old windows (for example because I want to continue to work with them the next day).

- add an option whether using "switch to" closes the JustCloseSomeTasks UI or not
Do you wish to keep JCST open to manage multiple tasks sequentially? How would you use this?

Yes, I want to jump to a task to check out if I can close it or not, then check out another task in JCST.

- allow the user to set a global hotkey for bringing up the UI
That's already there, right click on the systray icon for JCST and choose preferences to change it. Control-[ by default.

Hmm... then maybe the option is named in a way that I didn't get it. I don't want to check now because of the preferences window bug.  8)

Like in business, it's not enough to ask once (or twice). I read once that most sales (not impulse purchases) are made after the 7th sales attempt, so keep asking if you want feedback.  :)

How likely is it to see the requests and ideas become reality?  8)

If you don't find help regarding the bug here I suggest the AHK forums.

So I think we (and I) have let you down a bit

I don't think this is a 'failing' of DC, I think many here already take the opportunity to assess and offer feedback when asked

I second that. Ask and thou shalt receive thy feedback! :D

I tend to favor a different kind of "divisition" where we suggest something like this:
  • Regular dc forum members who create free software can announce it in the General Software section which is one of the two main and most read sections of the forum.
  • New people who aren't really forum members but wish to simply post about their product or service and don't really intend to stick around for general discussion, or people with non-free stuff, should use the Announce Your Product/Service section.
This info should be put into a sticky post in the announcement forum then.  :)

Maybe there's a software section "missing"? Something between 'Announce your Product' and 'Coding snacks', that would sound more like the line of software that wraith808 and other users posts? Or possibly rename the announce-forum? (I know I should come up with some great suggestions for a name, but I don't have them...)

Easy: split the first in these two:

- Announce your commercial product/service
- Announce your free product/service

Err... and a strange bug: sometimes the preferences window only shows up like this:

http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/8175/justclosesometasksbug.png

I then have to kill JustCloseSomeTasks and restart it to fix this. Never had this issue with any app before.

Nice app, thanks! Just saw it in your signature.  :)

Some requests and ideas:
- make auto-marking tasks for closure an option; I prefer to mark them myself (very long PC uptimes here)
- enable the 'menu key' on the keyboard (so that it brings up the right-click menu) so that it works like in almost all other apps
- make double-clicking an entry "switch to" the task (like in other programs)
- add an option whether using "switch to" closes the JustCloseSomeTasks UI or not
- if possible, add "- Windows Explorer" to the explorer tasks (they now only have the folder name as task name)
- allow the user to set a global hotkey for bringing up the UI
- close the UI when ESC is pressed once
- in the UI, display the time not in seconds but in minutes when it's more than xxx seconds and in hours when it's more than yyy minutes

I've thought of making them postcardware or commentware or donationware and putting nags in just to get *some* sort of feedback, but I'm not in this for the money or anything like that, or to force people to say anything.  It would just be nice if they did.
Yes. If you want feedback, ask actively for it!

Make it commentware, ask for feedback on your homepage, put a PLEASE EMAIL ME.txt (explaining the why and how) in the archive, etc., etc. ...

Getting frustrated won't change their behaviour. 8)

Love the hugs video. I should try that. People talk to me for no reason when I'm in public. Strangest thing. I don't understand it, but it's nice.
Let me guess: you feel pretty good on the inside when that happens? (I mean even before they talk to you.)

Ok, my comment: if you watch so many TV shows that you need/want such a program, you might want to think about cutting it down a bit.  8)

You are a parent yourself right?
I'm just someone who came to the conclusion that as much TV as I used to watch is not what will transform my (then) current life situation into my perfect life situation. So I acted and cut down TV hours massively. No regrets.
True, but I do have a social life.
I know people with a strong social life who are still miserable quite often.  ;)

Anyway, if TV shows contribute to your happiness, enjoy the show(s)!

Option request: "rewind on resume" - user would be able to define an amount of seconds Trout would rewind the file when you resume listening (from pause mode).
Audiobook-related, I suppose?   :P
Good guess! :D

« Last post by brotherS on March 08, 2009, 02:12 PM »
You touched on something that has bothered me for years when you referred to the taskbar as "that thingie at the bottom of the screen". The taskbar can be docked to any edge of the screen and I HATE it when applications assume that it's at the bottom and position themselves accordingly. I dock mine at the top and I've often wondered why it was placed at the bottom by default. Almost all applications have their menus and toolbars at the top, and when I'm working on something or reading I usually scroll so that the working area is in the middle or the upper half of the screen. Also, menus in applications are almost always pull-down, not pull-up as in the bottom-docked taskbar. So given all of that, why would I want to drag my cursor clear down to the bottom of the screen to switch applications or access the Start menu?
Because people make all kinds of choices that don't make sense. They want to live healthy but smoke, they want to be slim and eat cream pies, they spend more time deciding on which TV to buy than why they are not as fulfilled as they want to be, etc. etc.

(I figured out what you are trying to do! You want to make this SO off-topic that some moderator will just split the topic, ha!)  :D

Yikes! I'm gonna have to read over the manual very carefully. The app looks like a NASA control panel...
I found it quite intuitive to use, never checked if there even IS a manual. :D

Btw, zero replies to my bug posts there after 3 weeks...

You're welcome, and thank YOU.  :)

    * The default 'Explore here' option (Windows Explorer) should now highlight the selected
      file.  [Thanks, app103]
I suggest to rename that option to "Start Explorer here". In my opinion "Explore here" is not as clear as that, it could mean some internal program option too.
