Hi mouser.

That user can navigate the resulting image using the Keyboard, not just the cursor mouse dragging navigation bars.
The Scrolling images are large.

after years of SC use, I discovered this year that using the rightmouse button with click & drag will pan an image.

It all depends on how quickly you report it stolen or illegally used. Per the Nolo website:

better conditions than I thought. What about stolen credentials... I guess that is covered though by the last line: unlimited [liability] if you fail to notify the bank within 60 days after your bank statement is mailed to you listing the unauthorized withdrawals.

I haven't seen or heard of anything good coming out of fighting either, in the last couple of millenium at any rate.

On the topic of ethanol in fuel... some new studies have shown conclusively that it costs MORE in terms of energy to burn ethanol than regular gasoline.

Got a lot of bad press here. They grow a lot of maize/corn here for it, and there's very relaxed rules about use of pesticides and fertilizers as it's not for food use. Which'll all go into the watertable, and there were other objections but I cant remember the details atm.

Initially (it's only available here a couple of years) anyway the majority of Germans avoided it as it's supposed to be a bit rougher on your car. Dont know if uptake has increased since - with the price of petrol here I wouldnt be suprised: it's been over 8 US dollars a gallon for 'super' (98 I think 'super' is only 95) a long time now...

Credit card transactions are also much easier to get reversed, so there's a greater risk to the seller if a customer decides to play games.

the other side of the coin is that with a CC the customer has better protection. I've heard that if a debit card is stolen and sucessfully used, the owner is royally screwed (I dont actually know if that's true though).

General Software Discussion / Re: Firefox with multiple rows of tabs!?
« Last post by tomos on May 06, 2014, 09:36 AM »
That's most of the way there! But is there any way to adjust how many tabs / width per tab before it creates a row, maybe a toggleable setting? Right now it seems to be ten.

Screenshot - 2014-05-06 , 16_18_53.png

I'd recommend going through all the tab mix plus options to see what's possible

thanks to app & Innuendo for the news it works in Pale Moon (I searched via the add-ons page and it wasn't offered to me, so I just presumed it didnt work...)

Tab mix plus allows multiple rows and lots of control over tabs, but I dont think it'll do the new row for each topic...

Very worth having anyway imo. Doesnt seem to be available for pale moon, I'm using Tab Utilities there which is similar (but less flexible in my experience so far).

Screenshot Captor / Re: Feature request: quickly switch between PNG und JPG

Hi Deozaan.
But, It is ironic. With "Screenshot Captor" my PNG snapshots are substantially lighter than JPG.

hi Epamitut - in SC that could be to do with the compression settings (see "Image File Format" in prefs).
(I'm presuming by 'lighter' you mean smaller.)

I'm just after getting 29 now on my laptop (Windows 8.1).
Especially on a laptop with 'basic' resolution (1366 x 768), the vertical space is very valuable. From that pov, I'm happy with anything that'll help - saying that, I dont see any improvement here.

  • it actually loses me around 10 pixels in the height department by my reckoning - with just address bar + a few buttons showing on both versions. I removed the large adblock and duckduckgo buttons to be sure they werent fully to blame - they brought it up to a 17 pixel difference (adblock was in statusbar in older screenshot)
  • in spite of removing the Firefox logo on the left, it doesnt show any more tabs than before

... reckon I'll have to go install that addon

Wondering is there any way of easily checking what updates are installed? (in Win7, they show you a nice list after updating/rebooting, but I dont know how to access that)

Control Panel-->System and Security then look for View Installed Updates under the Windows Update section.

@Tao - is that your interview voice :)

Yes, your tips helped but the reason I'm not a good gamer is I still react to something going to far e.g. to the left, I react by pressing the right button with all my strength (poor keyboard) and of course then the worm/whaver moves too far in the other direction. So I'm not at your level - once I played it and there were very few left - I still couldn't get rid of them, but they didnt seem to be reproducing.

Ah, I see Deo just confirmed it as a bug

[2964358 is being] offered to people on Win 7 who have an earlier update installed (KB 2929437, I think, which is already installed).

Yeah, I'm being offered it today.

MS does give a warning:
Known issues with this security update

Internet Explorer will crash if you try to install this security update on a Windows 7-based system that does not already have security update 2929437 installed. To avoid this issue, take either of the following actions:
Install security update 2929437, and then install security update 2964358. For more information about security update 2929437, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
2929437 Description of the security update for Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: April 8, 2014
Install security update 2964444 instead of security update 2964358. Security update 2964444 is intended for systems that do not have security update 2929437 installed.

Wondering is there any way of easily checking what updates are installed? (in Win7, they show you a nice list after updating/rebooting, but I dont know how to access that)

I didn't realize it was that difficult. I've only seen one person besides myself play the game, and she also had troubles controlling the worm. But I just chalked that up to the fact that she's not much of a gamer.

Hmm...  :-\

Cant speak for Tao, but I'm not much of a gamer either.
And I found the difficulties entertaining (as well as challenging, as said).

Well, I've nothing against the new chrome style (I value vertical space), but finally got around to installing PaleMoon x64 (ver.24.5 on Win7). I seem to have been able to install or replace my most important addons, I'm even sharing a Session Manager folder with Firefox, so a fairly seamless move...

So far I'm happy with a noticeable improvement in performance (my main complaint with FF for a good while now). With about 60 tabs 'open' (only about 10 loaded) CPU usage a *lot* better than same session in FF; GPU (mainly dwm.exe) same or lower with videos playing

Apologies for veering slightly off-topic ;-)

Dont think I've posted anything by Lissie before (a search didnt come up with anything). I like her music a lot, so here goes -
she does a lot of covers - this one "Go your own way" from Fleetwood Mac, guitar inspired by U2, nice combination:

here's a good original "They all want you"

and maybe my favourite - another great cover ("Pursuit of Happiness" by Kid Cudi - text NSFW I guess)

(and respect for knowing how to drink *a* shot from a bottle of tequila)

Heh I don't have the magic touch. But I bet someone out there has the "magic touch" to control the worm gracefully!
:)

not me... it's very challenging
kept trying to get just above earth level to swallow as many of those measly humans as possible, but keep ending up doing sumersaults.

Such is life ;)

mention some programs that are absolutely at the top of your daily list that you'd be annoyed not to have around

using that criteria (and not in any particular order):

FARR
Gridmove and Milesahead's MoveIt for windows management (hey Miles, what's you new site address again?)
Syncovery for backup
Directory Opus
CintaNotes (although I do want to check out alternatives)
Listary - (happily used Filebox Extender for years until it was no longer supported)
Clipboard: Mouser's CHS; (I liked Tranglos's Ethervane Echo a lot too, but it clashed with some old software I had installed)

That will stop the update dead in its tracks, if you have accidentally triggered it and haven't restarted your browser yet

Thanks for that tip App. I hate that when it tries to update even though I have it set to ask me first.  I haven't bothered to look if that bug is already registered.  If I do "check for updates" just to see if there is one, it tries to install it if it finds it.  Really annoying.

+1

oddly, in my case, the update didnt work anyway

Love the game

and the blog post:
The game isn’t actually a game. It’s more of a toy. There’s no way to lose and there’s no way to win. You just play. But on the plus side, at least it’s fun.

it's great fun to play - I dont see why a game has to have those other aspects (?)
I wouldnt mind some board games like that: "no way to lose and ... no way to win"), would make playing against my niece (and some adults I know, a lot easier).

Developer's Corner / Re: Nice Long Read: The Great Works of Software
« Last post by tomos on May 01, 2014, 04:49 AM »
A very enjoyable read

At the start he mentions code:
Is it possible to ... enumerate great works of software that are deeply influential—that changed the nature of the code that followed?
but, then he changes the criteria to a different sort of influential (more about stamina and less about creativity?):
The criteria were simple: How long had it been around? Did people directly interact with it every day? Did people use it to do something meaningful?
-
which criteria could be used/stretched to say that e.g. the British Empire was 'great'. In fairness he is critical of MS Office, and of the *.psd file format...

What I don't like is how every few seconds the CPU usage spikes up and Firefox becomes unresponsive for a second or two. What's up with that?

us being the final beta testers?

I havent tried 29 yet (but now I've checked the 'About', it looks like I will after the next restart...)

Thanks for all that info Iain

After reboot, I re-ran the MBAM scan (better safe than sorry) and then turned my attention to the IE start page, which still had the persistent unifinder.net page. I eventually figured out that if I set another website page as the start page instead, and shredded the file unifinder.em[1].js, then the problem was cleared.

I cleared out some stuff for my sister a while back - was a different startpage, but otherwise similar (I cant remember the details exactly) but we had the same problem at the end - malware appeared to be removed, yet the startpage still kept getting hijacked. Quoted tip may be of help (next time I visit her..)
