Finished Programs / Re: IDEA: Capslock reverses case of selected text
« Last post by mouser on July 19, 2005, 01:24 PM »
this doesn't directly address your issue ampa, but, while i think as-u-type is a very cool idea, i am just about done with my clipboard help+spell tool, whose purpose is to let you quickly spellcheck highlighed/selected text in any application, or do some quick fixes to it (change from uppercase to normal case for example).

maybe it will serve your needs.  it should be a little more flexible than as-u-type, and less of a cpu drain, but it will mean that you have to manually select the text to fix and hit the hotkey, rather than have it auto mark spelling errors in the original dialogs as you are typing.

it's definitely fun.
i was just going to suggest some options, like degree of dimming, and request the ability to exclude the taskbar from dimming - then i saw that skrommel had already implemented them!!

here are the settings that seem to work best for me:

;Settings
;backcolor=000000-FFFFFF or leave blank to speed up screen.
;image=                  Path to image or leave blank to speed up screen.
;transparency=0-255      Makes the ghosting more or less translucent.
;jump=1 or 0             Makes the active window show through the ghosting.
;showdesktop=1 or 0      Removes the ghosting when the desktop is active.
;showontop=1 or 0        Removes ghosting from ontop windows like the taskbar.
image=C:\Windows\Bubbles.bmp
backcolor=000000
transparency=80
jump=1
showdesktop=1
showontop=1

i'll be adding a precompiled exe file for this tool to coding snacks page today for those who don't want to install autohotkey.

awesome work skrommel - it's fun to see this finally implemented.  also a testament to autohotkey i think.  very powerful.

ahhhh
i see now what you were saying!
you were saying that i dont need to add screensaver specific code to the program, because there are already programs to run an arbitrary application as a screensaver!!  my mistake, i'm sorry, i read too fast.  yes i agree with you 100%.

hi gary,
this feature is going to be the first thing added to F&R, but you currently can't configure it.
i know this seems crazy, and it's a feature i should have added a long time ago.
i will add it this week.

i thought of that.. and believe me i would have prefered not to have to handle such code..
but running as screensaver is not sufficient i dont think, to prevent ctrl+alt+del and other keys and mouse actions..
at least i dont think so.. but if i'm wrong id be interested in hearing.

Unfinished Requests / Re: EXISTS - IDEA: Regular Expression Helper
« Last post by mouser on July 18, 2005, 06:16 PM »
it sure seems like from the pictures that expresso is designed to help you build regular expressions by assembling them from nice easy to use dialogs..

the EXISTS flag on the post was just meant to indicate that this probably isn't a coding snack; even if these particular programs aren't perfect, its probably too big a task for a coding snack anyway and there are surely more such apps out there waiting to be discovered.

but i can remove the EXISTS thing if you want, nothing is set in stone.

but whatever problem I have with regex (perl specifically) I can also extend to figuring out how to get regex buddy to produce useful results.

hahahahahaha
i hear ya.

i should have new substantial version of this tool soon-
it will be migrated to one of the official dc applications because it has grown in scope beyond a coding snack and i will entertain any clipboard related other suggestions.

new name is (unless i get a better suggestion before it goes public):
Clipboard Help+Spell

i just tried skrommel's script with the new autohotkey - it works!!

it's actually quite cool to try.  i don't know that i'd really use it but its quite fun and shows the power of autohotkey, and nice to be able to so easily compile it into an exe.

very fun and really excellent work!  :up:

if its ok with skrommel i will be compiling all of his autohotkey/autoit scripts and putting both them and the original scripts up on the coding snacks page.

skrommel - send me a paypal email address that i can put on the donation page so that people here can donate a buck or two to show their appreciation for your work.. i know i speak for everyone when i say how wonderful it is to have people here helping write these things.  it's really a treat to watch you guys in action.

General Software Discussion / TcpDump and Microolap
« Last post by mouser on July 18, 2005, 11:35 AM »
first, thought this might be of interest:
http://microolap.com...cts/network/tcpdump/

its a version of tcpdump (well known commandline packet info tool for scanning network traffic, http://www.firetower...m/forum/tcpdump.html), but compiled for Microsoft Windows using Microolap's own excellent packet sniffing engine.

free for personal use.

i also want to make a comment about microolap the company (http://microolap.com).

They have gone out of their way to help me in the past with programming issues and general advice.  Definitely a great company with some great people working for it - people who go well beyond the call of duty.

So if you are looking for database tools, a network sniffing engine or a mapping component for programming, definitely give them a visit.

I can't say enough good about them :greenclp:

« Last post by mouser on July 18, 2005, 08:07 AM »
you could definitely achieve this easily with directory opus (but beware the price of dir. opus).
it will let you assign a hotkey to any button, so you could easily add a hotkey to the "command prompt here" button, which is what you are wanting.  does xpolorer2 maybe let you do this also?

changing case is found in several clipboard tools and hotkey programs, but i will happily add it to clipboard helper along with spell check.

ps. i believe spellcheck will be added; i have located a good component for it.

ps2. i need a new better name for the tool soon.. the age old dilemna.

there are some addons to do this (right+click -> open dos box here) - though thats not really a hotkey.
it would be interesting to hear if anyone has an ideas of how to get the current directory in explorer; if so a macro tool or autoit might be able to do this.

many of us, including myself, use a windows explorer replacement which has buttons for things like "open dos box here" so that we don't need addons and stuff.  the existence of such buttons is one of the major reasons people use a file explorer replacement like powerdesk or directory opus.

i was just kidding -
hey, let's be honest here,
the entire foundation of this site rests on the fact that none of us are satisfied with tools that are just good enough..
we are compelled to keep searching for the pefect tool...

36515
i have actually recently written a region based non-rectangular windows tool that i could very easily adapt for this purpose if the autoit isnt quite sufficient.

yes i think it would be good to make an exe and host both scritp+exe on the snacks page.

« Last post by mouser on July 17, 2005, 05:59 PM »
anyone have interest in me adding a feature to my clipboard helper tool which would let you select text, hit a hotkey, and have it copy selected text to clipboard and launch a small edit window with  spellchecker functionality and spelling errors underlined.  After correcting you could hit cancel to do nothing or accept to paste the corrected text back to the original window.

?

i've been working really hard collecting and assembling code to disable keys and mouse and stuff to make the computer safe from toddler interference, block ctrl+alt+del, similar stuff, and have got that finally pretty much sorted.  i new it was going to be a little tricky to ramp up to this project, but this basic code to lock computer may turn out to be useful for other snacks..

i've got lots of plans for this baby typing program, i think it might be something we add modes to regularly as we think up fun things to add..

anyone want to suggest a good name for it?
i was thinking: Baby's First Keyboard
or maybe Baby's Magic Keyboard

nice work!
nilness found it - that does exactly what you want and is free:

analogx, btw, for people don't know, is a great source of unique freeware.
