General Software Discussion / Re: Fastest Audio Converter
« Last post by Curt on December 04, 2010, 03:27 PM »
CUDA hast nothing to do with hand-held devices. It's a a parallel computing architecture developed by NVIDIA that let programs (developed with a special api) use the graphics processing units (GPUs) to work faster.

thanks for correcting me    How will it respond if the pc doesn't have nVidia Cuda?

yeah, the title probably should spell "up to ...". In my opinion, Burning Studio and UnInstaller will make a really fine deal, all the others are of less / little interest.

sorry, I didn' imagine such scenario in advance. Use either Audio or Full Edition only. CUDA is for hand-held devices.

The fastest converter is not a converter but a transcoder ;-)

The people behind the free MediaCoder should be whipped for adding nagging features to their program... remember to scroll down their homepage and click "do not open this next time" etcetera!! :o , but the transcoding is very fast and of high quality.

I use a converter that will convert 10-12 files at the same time, at 1:1 speed.
That makes it 12 files a' 5 minutes, converted in 5 minutes and some.

Edited:
I can click "fast", and it will convert 16-18 files in 3 minutes (double speed).

Thanks for telling, Hank. However, it is not for me. The faster the conversion, the poorer the quality. Period! If the audio track is 5 minutes, the conversion should take 5 minutes and some. It is easy (for me) to hear the difference if I convert on double speed; the curtain in front of the sound gets even thicker, the bass even more muddy.

Found Deals and Discounts / Bolide CoolUtils Frigate... ehhh?
« Last post by Curt on December 02, 2010, 08:03 AM »
We have been thinking a lot about the best Christmas present for Audio Compare users blah blah blah. Total Audio Converter is very affordable but we go further and offer you 55% discount (final price is less than $9). The offer is valid till January, 10.

---------------------------------------------------
But at the CoolUtils site they also have a great number of bundled offers.
The full list of products in the $99 CoolUtils Pro Suite:

Frigate3 (file manager with built-in file viewers (DBF, RTF, HTML, DOC, Excel), utilities (TreeNotes, StartUp Manager, Calculator, SmartPad, and Directory Size Manager)), and Total Converters: Audio + Image + Movie + HTML + PDF + PDF OCR + Outlook + Outlook Express + Thunderbird + iPod +++ , oh, I give up!! I have merely mentioned but a fraction of the apps included in this bundle, there are many many more! Read about it at http://www.coolutils.com/BundlePro.php , scroll down to "Alternatively, get Total Audio Converter for $2.67 within our CoolUtils Pro bundle!" 99 : 2.67 = 37

The reason I mention this everyday offer is because of Frigate3 which otherwise isn't named at their site. Some 2½ years ago our Darwin said that Frigate3.35 Pro was working well, but that was on XP or Vista. I didn't know it ever was updated, but the offered version is now called 3.36, so at some point in time  it clearly was. However, they don't say if Frigate3 is working with Win 7, one can only assume / hope / test.

Frigate3 Pro is $40. Frigate3 Standard is $25, but being included in the bundle it is now very cheap: $2.67!
http://www.frigate3.com/features.php

I didn't know Bolide had anything to do with CoolUtils, and maybe they don't, apart from the initial offer? Also, I didn't know CoolUtils had anything to do with Frigate3, and maybe they don't, apart from the bundled offer? But CoolUtils / Softplicity seems to have an almost endless list of low priced programs available, mostly converters. They even have a bunch of free online converters.

Calvin & Hobbes was my favorite. Too bad the author stopped. It really was the best comic I've ever read.

Calvin & Hobbes is still my favourite. Put a gun to my head and I just might be able to pick a single all time favourite strip:

I also use OSS Pro, (I am really glad I got their deal 2 years ago - lifetime updates for 3 computers :D ),

I have a key for Online Armor ++ (Antivirus and Firewall), but the license is now about to expire. The Renewal Price for one year, 1 PC, is $45.- , which is making me even more happy ("really glad") with my lifetime license for Agnitum OSS Pro :-)

Edit#2:
Aurora cannot read 4 jpg pictures that my approx 40 other viewers or editors can read (yes, it took almost an hour to test this!). This is not good, this is bad!

-this was with 30 photos from a small folder, yesterday. Today I navigated Aurora to my system default Picture's folder with 5.850 pictures. There were hundreds of pictures that Aurora couldn't read!

Do not purchase a key for this program!! edited: unless you only will name your files with standard Latin characters. Mystery solved: Aurora does not accept any unusual characters at all.

-sorry about the useless discount code.  (see next post)

Aurora has quickly become a love & hate item in my head. Some of the edit features are really good (Color Strength and Relight are even excellent!), but the program demands to be recognized as a server, because the company has an agreement with Amazon (backup $5 per month for 20GB). Adobe Air is installed without further notice. The worst part is, if you click *save*, the original picture is overwritten at once. No save as... option! Edited: Sorry; I didn't realize at first that the new file has a little "_au" at the end of the file name.

Lightcrafts' $50 Aurora can partly be called a simple version of the $200 $100 LightZone. As such, it is really good at this new time limited discount price: $25. However, I don't know if the rebate code somehow is connected to me ("Exclusive offer for PostworkShop customers") or if it is usable for you as well: (CPN5366133890)

I have to admit that I don't trust Aurora or LightZone to ever be updated, but of course I don't *know*.

Many people were extremely disappointed when Agnitum stopped supporting Outpost Firewall Free, especially considering Outpost firewall is dotTech recommended. Well, friends, worry no longer. Last week Agnitum released Outpost Security Suite Free, the freeware version of Outpost Security Suite Pro.

Previously Outpost Firewall Free provided users with top-notch firewall services. Outpost Security Suite Free takes those top-notch firewall services and combines them with anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-spam features into one program.

Process Lasso is an icon when it comes to updating the installed file. All you need to do, after unpacking the two new files, is to db-click the QuickUpgrade.exe. End of story!!
