Skrommel has a new web page for all his scripts: https://www.donation...om/Software/Skrommel

It looks fantastic and i encourage everyone to go check it out.

Skrommel's participating in the coding snacks section has been one of the best things about this forum - and it's just been such a wonderful surprise.

At my urging, skrommel has set up a donation link at the top of his page - please if you use one of his scripts or just want to encourage what he's doing, consider making a small donation, if only just as a gesture to show him you appreciate what he's doing.

It's important for us all to support those who contribute to the site, and I hope you'll view this in that way, as an opportunity to not just thank skrommel but to make a statement that we are willing to recognize people who make this place better.

great work skrommel! looking forward to more of your autohotkey treasures

ah fair enough, you're right, but jpfx is right too -
in fact i think winrar strikes the perfect balance.

when you open up an archive it looks like you are just looking inside that archive, but you can pop out to the parent folder, which can be useful actually.  i actually find it a perfect balance.

i was more obecting to the zip programs that have the full dual panel folder tree, etc.

i actually like tugzip a lot, and it has options how you want to view it, whether you want full browser mode or the compact mode i prefer.  here is the full browser mode screenshot that shows what i was saying i don't like: http://www.tugzip.co...screenshots/main.jpg

carol, someone pointed me to a thread on the alcohol 120% forum where someone requested this and was told it would be a lot of work to do.
you'd think something like this would be available for testing purposes, but i haven't found anything.
on the other hand with the price and speed of burners, you might just burn it to cd, then make iso file from cd, then throw cd into garbage.

yeah, exactly.

the thing is im one of those people who always has a file explorer window or two open, and i can do 95% of all zipping and unzipping from within directory opus or whatever file browser im using.  i dont need my zip program to also try to be a full explorer, i rather it just show me the contents of the archive and not distract me with other stuff.

i don't know if others are the same as me, but personally i dont like these archive interfaces that are like full file explorers with folder tree, etc.  i rather use my own file explorer, and have my archive program open in a small window just showing contents.

Unfinished Requests / Re: Noisemaker
« Last post by mouser on August 22, 2005, 07:03 AM »
skrommel is the best  :-*

i'll update the noisemaker in skrommel's pack#2 when this gets to final version,
but this might be a good time to recap how easy it is to make a standalone exe out of these autohotkey scripts.

just install autohotkey from http://www.autohotkey.com/

then copy and paste skrommels script to a text editor (like notepad) and save it as as he says (noisemaker.ahk).

now you can double click that ahk to run it inside autohotkey right away

OR

right click on it from windows explorer and select compile

OR

from your start menu autohotkey group choose "convert .ahk to .exe" and select it.

voila you have a standalone exe you can run on any computer.

review of pdf tools is a great idea - since buying acrobat is not feasible for a lot of people.

i'm open to the idea - where should we put it?
bump it out to be a child of "Software Reviews and Recommendations"? (i.e. at same level as "Software in the Wild")

i think you'll agree that skrommel is one of the coolest things on this site.

this is a collection of skrommel's latest scripts here since pack#1 was made available.

pack#2 description from coding snacks page (https://www.donation...dingSnacks/index.php):
Title: Skrommels AHK (AutoHotKey) Script Pack #2
Requester: various
Programmer: skrommel
Forum Links: CapsChangeCase, ClickStep, DragKing, DriveZip, IsEmpty, KeyLog, Maya, noisemaker, TakeABreak, TicTacTitle, TimeToChange, WaitForIt, ZipOut
Download Version: 1.00.01 (08/21/05)
This is the second collection of AutoHotKey scripts (including .ahk scripts and compiled standalone .exes) written by Skrommel in response to various requests. They are an amazing way to learn about AutoHotKey as well as being fun and useful utilities.

Direct Download: https://www.donation...2/SkrommelsAHKs2.zip

the pack includes the raw .ahk scripts, precompiled .exe versions, and tiny readmes with links back to threads describing the scripts and requests.

Living Room / SourceForge - can we have some more clicks please
« Last post by mouser on August 21, 2005, 05:20 PM »
as much as i love sourceforge, i think the following would make it much better:

i think 10 or 20 clicks to download the files from a sourceforge project is not enough.  i think it would be much funner if i had to click 50 or even 100 links to download a project's files.

also id like to see the search engine further crippled - how about you can only specify the letters you want in your searches, but not actual words.

also lets make the forums show posts in a random order.

and also lets make it more of a mystery whether a project is real or just a fantasy idea - make it so that you have to wait 5 minutes before sf will tell you the project has no files or homepage and exists only in someones imagination.

i offer these suggestions because clearly sourceforge is looking for ways to make their fantastic service less usable.

Unfinished Requests / Re: Noisemaker
« Last post by mouser on August 21, 2005, 10:37 AM »
some questions:

does it matter what tone? random tone? fixed tone?

you want to be able to say, generate a tone every 7 minutes that lasts for 2 seconds, or you want to say, generate a tone ever x minutes (where x can change and be random from 2 to 9 minutes) of random duration that can range from 1-3 seconds.

what a strange request - mind telling us what it is to be used for?

Screenshot Captor / Re: Impr. Request: move and resize selection with arrow-keys
« Last post by mouser on August 20, 2005, 02:54 PM »
to let you guys know my current thinking about movable objects.

i was thinking about lots of ways to do it, then i discovered that it is possible to embed arbitrary data in a .tiff file along with the image.
photoshop for example can embed full layer data in .tiff files.

SO

i think the best way to do this is, when you add objects, it will automatically (unless you tell it differently), save your files (rename) as .tiff files.  then it will be able to retrieve objects so you can always edit them, move them, etc., but still view the images in any image editor.

you can then do a save as.. to save it in another format (and lose ability to move objects).

great idea -
ill check what ctrl+shift+alt cursor key shortuts that photoshop uses and use though,
but very good idea to have a way to nudge and expand selections.

soon we will have to name this Stefan Screenshot Captor :)

Screenshot Captor / Re: Coming soon.. Arrows, callouts, textboxes
« Last post by mouser on August 20, 2005, 02:41 PM »
here are the object i see being able to use:
1) arrows (you can easily change endpoints locations+styles, color, transparency)
2) stamps (clipart), should rotate, scale, move, set transparency; includes cursors, sparkles, etc.
3) simple text boxes (should be able to choose color, shadow, justification, roundborder/noborder,transparency)
4) clipart text callouts (like baloons for text)
5) highlight boxes and underlines

all objects should be movable, deletable, etc.

anything else?

clipart should be in standard format for easy adding new stuff.

ill add it to help file.

yes a zoom while select would be nice - i will see how hard it would be, shouldnt be too bad except for worrying about it getting in the way.

though i encourage people strongly to just hit prtscr to capture entire screen, and then select and crop from there - no point to be so precise when doing initial capture, thats my view :)

so would you want a $referrer argument and a $useragent argument?

ironically its a lot easier to add such things internally and track them if i don't have to nescesarily show them in the user interface, so it may be easier for me to add those fields for now just as argument macros for launching 3rd party programs.

UrlSnooper / Re: spaces in filenames?

so you want a $filename macro argument that is basically same as $file but without the directory? good idea, i will add that.

i'll make a new version available this week with all the changes we've discussed.

anyone else experiencing these forum issues?  are you using something that might be blocking the forum cookies maybe? i'm thinking that might confuse it..  or maybe youve got somethign strange set in your forum profile saying to log you out automatically after only a couple of minutes?

the idea would be that you could still use the mouse and keyboard as normal, open menus, etc.
and only when you are selecting exactly what you want to capture do you hit alt+leftclick to capture it.
