General Software Discussion / Re: Making Screenshot in 2e monitor.
« Last post by mouser on May 24, 2017, 06:07 PM »
This is probably a case of Accelerated video mode not being screen captureable.  It usually happens when using movie players in full screen mode.
The solution is to turn off "Accelerated Graphics" mode for that monitor (or that program).  You might try turning off Accelerated Graphics in the web browser you are using (I think Chrome has a setting for this, I'm not sure about others).
What operating system are you using? I'm not sure the procedure to turn off accelerated graphics on newer versions of windows..

Yikes, this is unpleasant for those who download subtitles online.

Check Point researchers revealed a new attack vector which threatens millions of users worldwide – attack by subtitles. By crafting malicious subtitle files, which are then downloaded by a victim’s media player, attackers can take complete control over any type of device via vulnerabilities found in many popular streaming platforms, including VLC, Kodi (XBMC),

Thank you.
New version is uploaded. Hopefully this is the one that fixes it.
3604
Thanks for testing and for the report, Kopejkin.

Can I trouble you to download the new version I just uploaded and see if that bug message is gone?  I have removed the redbox kludge option since it's no longer needed.

This may be the problem described elsewhere of windows default OneDrive program capturing the PrtScr key.
See this thread for the solution:

Screenshot Captor / Re: Too Many Entries in System Settings
« Last post by mouser on May 23, 2017, 09:01 AM »
As said may times in this thread, you should be deleting registry entries...

The thing is that SC is not creating these entries (and they aren't being created in the regsitry) -- Windows 10 is automatically creating them for reasons that do not seem clear -- and it's not clear why it's happening to some folks and not others.  It seems to be affecting lots of different programs..  If anyone can figure out exactly what is happening please do let me know!

New thing is that I have the view set to show capture bar, but its not there.

The capture bar can auto hide - and it may be that changing the monitor configure has moved it to another monitor -- or maybe to a monitor that is no longer visible?  I will try to add some code that checks for that when it is toggled on.

There seems to be a big long thread here, but it's hard for me to find a real explanation or solution:
https://answers.micr...-e49f344095e5?auth=1

Its happening to so many programs I can only assume that eventually Microsoft will fix their system to not have this problem.. But it would be nice to understand the nature of it before then..

infosundso, can you tell me a little bit more about how you are installing or uninstalling Screenshot Captor?
Do you use the portable version or the installer? Do you uninstall the previous version before installing the new one (not needed)?

Does anyone know anything about this weird phenomena?

v1.15.01 - May 22, 2017
  • [Improvement] High-DPI Windows (text size > 100%) is now supported well.
  • [Improvement] Installer now offers to run app after installation.
  • [Improvement] Options now accessible from system tray.
  • [BugFix] On windows 10 a remnant red overlay was seen when changing capture modes.
  • [BugFix] Another attempt to fix bug where Red region was stuck on screen for some people during recording; new kludge option that should absolutely solve it if you still see it.
3612
I have one report that the new build fixes the red box problem (event with the fix checkbox option disabled) -- I'd like to get some more confirmations and then remove that kludge fix option.

I have been thinking about Kopejkin's requests -- it would be nice to have an option to show a text subtitle stating when keys were pressed or mouse buttons were clicked, etc.
3613
If use the option "Completely hide red..." in version 1.14.01, the problem with the red rectangle is missing.

I have just uploaded a new beta.  For those that had to use this new kludge option because they were seeing the red box in their captures, I would be very interested to hear if the new beta solves the problem WITHOUT having to enable this kludge option.

Am I right in understanding that it's not recommended to always have a (Windows 10) laptop connected?

I have never heard such a thing -- I assume laptops can be left plugged in indefinitely.  MANY people leave their laptops permanently plugged in and never travel with them.
3615
So yet another alternative would be that at the end of each year, in addition to celebrating the NANY events, we try to "recognize" the contributions of coders to the forum over the last year -- so a summary of contributed coding snacks and releases etc., and as part of that recognition divide up $1,000 in some way to those who have contributed in various ways over the last year.

The upside would be that it would be a less arbitrary way of thanking those who have contributed their efforts and code and shared it on the forum, in a more representative way and without ignoring the contributions to the community here.

The downside would be that it would be a much more "diluted" thing and would therefore not have as big an impact as one person receiving one big lump sum "award".
3616
It seems you end up with the same dilemma's as the last time you brought up this subject

Well my/our specialty is making things complicated and overthinking things..
3617
ESR is going to get an update soon.. Those are good ideas though not the very easiest to add.. Let me consider.
3618
The main thing I worry about with something like this is.. How to justify giving away $500-$1000 to someone randomly when there are long term members of the forum who regularly code like mad in the coding snacks area of the forum for example, making the place a better place for all of us..

Perhaps a better thing would be to give the money to coding snack coders?
3619
Here's the thing -- trying to choose who to give such an award to is impossible to do in a way that will make everyone happy, and it's impossible to do in a way that recognizes everyone's contributions properly.  I find it agonizing to try to choose who is more deserving of another in these kinds of cases. It's impossible to do "right".

Our only choices are to not do this at all, or do it and accept that there is going to be a huge amount of arbitrary randomness to who is recognized, and accept the idea that if someone doesn't get chosen they shouldn't take it personally and just try for it again next year.

The only solution is to accept the imperfect and arbitrary nature of choosing who to award and not treating it like we are really going to be able to say that person A "deserves" it more than person B.

I think this is going to be more of a case of picking a random recipient among a group of "qualified" coders who enter.

Activation/License/Language Help / Re: WHAT LICENSE KEY ? LOAD OF CRAP

That was an interesting comment for the poster to make.. It's almost as if the world of free advertising-sponsored apps have made people think that they are generating revenue for us just by using our apps.  Let me clarify for folks that no one makes any money from DonationCoder software based on the number of users, installs, etc.  There is no adware, no bundled 3rd party toolbars, etc. that generate revenue for us.  [And no ads on the website that let us make money from people visiting the website].

Not only that but we pay a pretty hefty fee each month (over $300/month) to run the servers hosting the downloads, etc.  We're not complaining -- the donations from users still covers our costs -- but yeah, do realize that we aren't making any money just based on downloads/installs/users..
3621
I just want to mention that OxygenicOctavian has made a generous donation towards this fund, and with DC matching it and another pledge from another user, I am happy to say that we have (our first?) $1,000 grant to provide to a coder (or coders).

Now it's just a matter of writing up some small description of how people should apply for it and see if we can't pick one or two recipients.

I am thinking that the model I like best is the idea of providing a no-strings-attached grant to a DC member who has already written and maintains software that is free (for personal use).  The goal is to recognize and encourage their work, and it should possibly focus on student recipients.  The recipient would be under no obligation to do anything with the grant money.

That's another reason why we depend so much on voluntary user donations -- and why we are somewhat persistent in our efforts to get people to at least consider donating (see my article here).

I appreciate everyone defending the site, but let's remember that sometimes people have a hard time finding the page where you download the license keys (I think mostly it happens when people skip reading the left sidebar sections on pages).

Anyway, that can lead to some frustration..  As someone with a low tolerance for frustration I always sympathize with that feeling -- it's not uncommon for me to hurl a string of curse words at my computer (though I refrain from posting when I am in such a mood).

Bottom line -- let's remember that the best response to such posts is to politely point them to the license key page, and remind folks that they can always email me ([email protected]) for a license key if they have considered and decided not to donate.

There is no need to reply to insults with more insults (Stephen I'm looking at you).

Let me look into it again.
And I can always add a built-in search function to SC.

Here's something that would help: Can someone make a png image that has a Description/Comment field that *DOES* show up in these other programs?  With such a sample png I should be able to figure out the difference.
