Site/Forum Features / Re: Irc Chat - plus new web-based java interface from forum
« Last post by mouser on August 27, 2005, 07:23 AM »
ok it looks like maybe the server is having a hard time getting through to you.
it could be because you are on a network and the router is not forwarding the information to the proper compuer - something that happens when connecting via routers.
but i can try configuring a different server so we can see if that's it.
if not, it may be that you will need to configure your router in order to use services like irc, ftpserver, instand messaging, etc.

the settings for routers that need to be set up to support such stuff on network routers is commonly called "port forwarding".
someone here probably understands it better than me but i can try to find some good web pages if you want.

Find And Run Robot / F&R fans get an update
« Last post by mouser on August 27, 2005, 06:48 AM »
ok, its just a start but here is a new version for beta testing. it has 2 features that have long been requested:
1) right click and you can choose to see normal shell context menu for the item.
2) easy menu group for adding an item to an alias, which can make building aliases (one of the nicer features but often unused) much easier.  plus a couple more minor things.

download from beta location:
https://www.donation.../FindAndRunRobot.exe

Version 1.05.22, August 27, 2005
 · Added instructions about right-clicking in options tabs
 · Added normal shell context menu pop-up
 · Added "add to group" menu item for easy alias making
 · Added scrollbars to alias listbox
 · Added License key code
 · Added alt+space hotkey
 · bugfix - hotkeys weren't being set on startup
 · bugfix - horizontal scrollbar was being shown on start

this is just a teaser to let you know that F&R is going to get all the nice features we've been talking about in the near future :)

and if you havent tried (group) aliases yet, now is the time: add a bunch of links to an alias, then just type the alias to show and choose from that list.

let me know if you see any problems with the new features.

ok i think i've solved it.

new full download here:

remember you can unzip this file manually and extract just the new exe, OR you can just run the installer on top of previous installation (make sure old version isnt running in tray at the time).

you know that you can easily toggle process tamer on and off by double clicking its tray?

however, the idea of telling process tamer to not starting monitoring for a few minutes after its started at boot is a good idea.
i should say ive been looking for new features to add to process tamer, so keep them coming.
i will add this.

and i just confirmed that the reason i wasnt seeing it in mine is that i had changed my quickfield and filename template from the default values.

the default values you are using are causing the odd extra space in file names.

this also explains the intermitentness - i will bet dollars to donuts that when it seemed to be working for you is when you were working with files that had already been saved with dif name.

ok i should be able to fix this in next hour or so, then i can get back to working on next version of find&run robot.

i believe the cause can be seen is in your screenshot.
somehow an extra space is finding its way into the filename when it saves it and its causing it to think the file is not overwriting an existing file.  see how the two file names in the debug message are different only in that the first has an extra space?

ok i think i have enought info to fix this now.

i've uploaded a new beta version of the exe (same url),
can you try it again and tell me what it shows in the new popup box when it does its mistake of not asking on save?
hopefully this will be the last clue i need.
(ironic that screenshot captor can't be used to capture an image of itself isnt it?)

ok i can see already the nature of the problem though i dont know the exact cause.

the FE:0 on the bottom as you are changing files is telling me that screenshot captor thinks that the old file does not exist so there is no reason to ask you if you want to overwrite it.  now to find out why it thinks that.

one thing to check is: when it autosaves without asking, does the filename maybe change a tiny bit?

yep, i am going to try to make a flyout button component if i can't find one - it's just what's needed.

carol, could you try this special version of screenshot captor:
https://www.donation...ScreenshotCaptor.exe

its just the exe you should copy into your existing folder.
the only thing this one does differently is shows some debugging into in the second to last little box on the bottom status bar.
what i want to know is what it says in that box as you switch to another image and it saves it automatically, it when it fails to ask you if it should save.

flyouts - cool, i didn't know those kinds of buttons have an official name; yes they would be perfect for something like this, i will look into it.

the option to add an "border around the selection"
should be have an new name 'cus
you want to implement an "Text highlighting" option too. (wouldn't you?)

So  the current option "Highlighting" could named "Frame"
and than text highlighting could be named "Highlighting".

i understand you completely and you are exactly right.
highlighting should be used for when you make like a whole window of text yellow highlight,
the current red border should be called something different.

edvard i definitely invite you to post more in mini-reviews whenever you get the urge - we need to encourage more user mini-reviews, i think they would be very welcome.

pdfcreator sounds really nice, im going to check it out now (pdfcreator is open source, and author offers more of his open source software for download there - and he requests donations.  remember to support donationware!)

hey guys - i need more people to add some quotes to their yearbook item, to help even out the page formatting!

just click the profile button at the top of this page and then go to the "Forum Profile Information" page at the very bottom and enter your yearbook quote.

ah.. that explains that..
so i connected the button to the 3part dim, blur, grey operation, but i labeled it only as dim outside.
ok my bad.

what is your guy's opinion about which operation that button should perform ? good the way it is, or should i link it to only one of those 3? which do people think is most likely to be used? i could also have pushing that button open a menu but that would require another click from user.

anyone else experiencing this issue where youve got the setting to "confirm on file replace" but its auto saving changes without asking for confirmation? i will test on some more computers.

i followed your steps and i always get the confirmation dialog.
let me make sure you have the right option set properly to get confirmations:
you should have "Confirm on file replace" selected in the General Settings Tab.

as for 3 ctrl^z's to undo -
this should be the case for one and only one special effect, the one that says "Enhance selection - gray, dim, and blur outside",
since this is actually 3 operations.
