OK - my wife is impressed with me (this is cause for celebration!)  :) However, in fairness the last bit should read:

How do I get a licence?

Google is my friend:

http://www.techcrunc...m/get-youtube-movie/
http://keepvid.com/
http://www.savevideodownload.com/

I've used the first two and they work (granted, this was about 6 weeks ago...). Can't comment on the third...

There are a couple of websites that will let you paste the YouTube link into frame and that will then dowload the video to your computer. But can I find them now...? Non!

General Software Discussion / Re: GemX - missing in action
« Last post by Darwin on December 20, 2007, 03:33 PM »
vegas - I can see your point, but really, I don't think that zenzai's posts are really that glowing. He/she is saying pretty much what everyone here says - the products would be world beaters if they worked but that with all the bugs and with no confidence that the products will be supported he/she is loathe to part with his/her money.

SKesselman's comments cannot be construed, in my opinion, as being glowing reviews but rather an attempt to insert a moderate voice into a heated discussion. People in this thread are largely of the "GemX should not be forgiven" frame of mind. I think all Skesselman is trying to say is that, yes, they have screwed up royally, but perhaps there's a story behind it and also to express the hope that GemX will recover and that nothing terrible has happened to the man behind it, who appears to be Peter Brooks.

Anyway, agree or disagree with SKesselman's perspective, I don't think that anyone from GemX is posting here posing as a concerned user.

I missed Sucky's comment in Korean in July - and my wife isn't here right now to translate it, so I'll have to take a stab at it:

 당신들은 정말 훌륭한 프로그램을 많들었다...하지만 라이센스 키는 어디서 받는가

becomes...

You've made a really fine program... but I can't figure out how to receive a licence.

I'm sure I've messed this up in part, but that's the gist of it as far as I can tell.

Well... I thought they were awesome! I read them at the public libarry when, ahem, cough, sputter, I was supposed to be writing my dissertation  :o Good fun, though. I keep meaning to buy the set but haven't, yet.

Crumb! HOW did I miss this two weeks ago?! Thanks Ralf - very funny! Note that number 6 hasn't been advanced as an explanation for Neanderthals' disappearance but is a big part of the plot of Robert J. Saywer's "Neanderthal Parallax" trilogy

PS that Butterfly had it coming...

Yes, quite right vegas. I assumed that they would be covered in the no recent activity category, but you're right, I should have been more specific. You're right, too, that Donationcoder has been a very generous place. I've won more than my fair in the monthly giveaways

Ah thanks, Carol - I missed that link the first time you posted it.

I'm amazed that the video was shot when Rolf was in his 60's... Thought it was an older perfromance than that. Incredible, none the less.

I'm so jealous - none of the stores near me have much in the way of notebook drives available, and nobody has 7200 rpm drives on the shelf. I have to order in from Vancouver... Ah, the life of a country bumpkin!

I'm with Reneagde - wow! The Rolf Harris version is incredible - he owns STH! I just wish that the whole performance was in that clip - probably available if I looked hard enough. The faux Beatles one is really well done as well...

I did google this and the overall consensus seems to be that there is a noticeable increase in peppiness and that everything seems stable... However, people are reporting driver issues (soundcards) and problems with accessing network drives. All told, I'm stearing clear and waiting for the final release.

As I recall, opinions about the extent of the hit in terms of heat generation and battery consumption varied but overall the "tone" of reviews seemed to be that while both do go up, the degree is not significant compared to 5400 rpm drives (not nearly as dramatic as 4200 to 5400 rpm, apparently). As I am wed to XP for at least two more years, I'll probably upgrade to a 7200 rpm drive myself in the future and be in a position to "comment from authority" at that point  ;D

Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! You got me Ralf  ;D I only just got around to actually reading the "review" - very illuminating. Looks like Lanux' suggestion is the way forward and I'll have to do the heavy lifting on this one myself.

Wow. Thanks Ralf - off to read that review (didn't actually occur to me to actively seek out reviews... I just thought they'd come to me. Darned if one didn't!  :P).

I looked into this A LOT in the spring and as far as I could gather from my research, the heat and battery issues are non-issues when deciding between a 5400 rpm and 7200 rpm laptop drive. I didn't jump then because the larger capacity and faster second generation drives were just out and crazy expensive, but I'll be considering it in the new year.

Thanks, Zaine. Your post (and subsequent comments) highlight how many options there are out there in ANY software category. The number of times I've spent in haste and repented in leisure (because I've found better, often free, solutions after having parted with my cash) is C-R-A-Z-Y.

Kill Process looks interesting, doublewitt, thanks for sharing that
