Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: suggestions: what I would love in Clipboard Help+Spell
« Last post by mouser on September 12, 2005, 01:26 PM »
i promise to add pop up pasting functionality as good as any existing clip tool -
to do this i'll need help from people like you to figure out the best user interface for it.
as far as memory use, i think kfitting has it exactly right, CHS is going to eat some memory when brought to foreground but i will work hard to make it use minimal memory when minimized in the tray.
your other suggestions are going to be implemented.

it definitely needs a new name;
right now it's sort of inbetween functionality, and needs much work.
but i hope to give it the same treatment as i hope all of our other software gets
i.e. with user feedback get it up to the level of the best shareware product in its category.

General Software Discussion / Re: So you want to write a review...
« Last post by mouser on September 12, 2005, 11:55 AM »
maybe nudone can post his thoughts on his review as well.
i should say that nudone and zaine wrote massive reviews, and they don't all have to be so comprehensive - i think that's just too high a bar to reach on a regular basis.  but they do serve as examples of the ideal review.

and like zaine says, i and others would be happy to help as much as is needed; and we really do need more guest reviewers.  if you feel like you would like to do a review of a category, contact me.  although we don't pay for it, we've always been able to reward reviewers with some donated software :)

i really love these user interface discussions, especiall the ones that discuss user interface bad design - because you kind of know it when you see it, but it's sometimes hard to put your finger on why, and how to fix - and it's great to read some of these people who just intuitively know the proper way to design things.

having helped a person set up a mac mini, i have to say my distaste for apple has only grown; on one hand it was super easy to set up - but on the other hand, when it had a bit of trouble connecting to the lan, the behavior and error messages were totally useless.

i certainly will fix that this weekend - no excuse for that; probably got messed up in the recent version when i got start-minimized behavior to work perfectly.  like stamping down bubbles under a rug, there always seems to be sideeffects :)

thanks for bug report, will be fixed next version (this coming weekend)

yep, march is when the site opened - not too long ago.
forum membership has gone up very dramatically since we required users to join forum in order to generate freeware license keys, so probably  just looking at forum membership is not going to be too informative.. would be nice to look at posts over time though :)

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Bug: Error MSGs on v1.04.16 startup
« Last post by mouser on September 12, 2005, 07:43 AM »
hi sagamal,
did you my any chance install one of our older versions of clipboard help and spell - it almost sounds like an error that would come from an older database.

the best way to fix would be go into database folder in the clipboard help+spell directory and delete (or move) the database files so that new ones are created on the next run.

clipboard help+spell is going to get major improvements and refinement as soon as some of our other programs get their turn getting updated; it's still in an early development stage.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Handling of spaces
« Last post by mouser on September 11, 2005, 03:33 PM »
hi bob,

actually one of the main features that should be ready in the next couple of weeks is treating of spaces as separate words instead of as a phrase, which would do what you want, it would catch files with both words in them, and would also match "last first"

Official Announcements / Major Software Update - System Path Commander
« Last post by mouser on September 11, 2005, 01:37 PM »
DonationCoder.com is proud to announce a major release of "SPC: System Path Commander":
https://www.donation...Other/Spc/index.html

[Packaged in our new zip-compatible installer for both manual and automatic installs]

System Path Commander is a power-user tool that allows you to easily and safely enable and disable directories in your windows system path environment variable (the paths searched when launching programs).

Such a tool is useful in a variety of situations. For example, the System Path sometimes grows too large and can cause problems if it isn't shortened. Being able to temporarily disable and enable directories on your system path can be a great way to do this safely, while still keeping all the paths available to you should you decide to re-enable them at a later time.

Features:

A friendly GUI interface helps you make changes to your system path.
Easy nondestructive enable/disable of directories.
Adding, deleting, editing of directory entries.
Aids in converting directories to short form to save space.
Identifies invalid paths.
Keeps a detailed log so you can alway see what you changed and when, and for maximum safety.

Version 1.07.09 - Sep 10, 2005
 · [feature] you could now be able to launch files that are in system path without specifying directory
 · [bugfix] escaping digits \# was broken on last release
 · [bugfix] regular expressions were not being saved the first time you created a particular alias group.

« Last post by mouser on September 10, 2005, 11:19 AM »
i broke the \ digits on my last release, i just confirmed.
am fixing and will upload new version in a couple minutes.

i also noticed that a bug in group alias editing meant that first time you create a group it throws away any regexp info you provide; only when you edit a group does it stay.  i had experienced this before but just thought it was my imagination, maybe you too :)

as for f12, let me check.

and i am checking for launching apps in system path as well - see if can't fix that also with the new release.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: NirCmd Setup, a guide of sorts
« Last post by mouser on September 10, 2005, 11:12 AM »
the other alternative would be to have a separate group for each nircommand, so for example:

regexp = "nirvolume (.*)"
result list:
"nircmd volume $$1 | c:\windows\nircmd.exe changesysvolume $$1"

advantages:
you only get the 1 item in your results list and can hit enter to launch it instead of # key
you dont have to worry about having too many commands to fit in results list.

disadvantages:
you have to create more groups
you cant just type cmd to get list of all commands (though if you prefix all by nir that would help)

great! going to try it now myself!
and it sounds like that regex string will actually be useful to other commands as well, so thats cool.

i will try to fix both issues you raised and post a new version.
