Living Room / Re: by the way mouser, how long can i use the processtamer's key?
« Last post by mouser on September 29, 2005, 12:19 PM »
after 180 days you must come back and grab a new key just like you did today - you can do this forever.

but if you have considered what our site is about, but cannot donate, email me in a few weeks at [email protected] and i will give you full key so that you do not have to come back for a new key every 180 days.

3) your key should be displayed.

4) select and copy license key.

5) go to process tamer about box, press "Enter New License Key Information" button

6) paste the license key into the box.

let us know if it works for you or if you need more help.

nikkho i'm with you about total commander,
though in fairness its one of the most beloved programs by a large number of people,
so i think it's one of those programs you either totally love, or totally can't bear to use.

thanks for the itunes tip - ive been waiting for an excuse to try itunes; the audible software is a bit weird, though it's never done wrong by you (ps the size of their catalog is huge, and you definitely have to be careful you don't download abridged by mistake)

Living Room / Fabric of the Cosmos, Audible.com, $11
« Last post by mouser on September 29, 2005, 02:28 AM »
I've been listening to the 22 hour audio book "Fabric of the Cosmos".  I got it through an account at audible.com, which if you like listening to audio books is a really nice reasonably-priced service.  (Especially good if you do a lot of driving [not me], or have insomnia [me]).

I'm really loving this book on physics and space+time.  One of those books trying to convey the amazingness of the history and current state-of-the-art thinking on phsysics to laypeople.  stuff that makes your jaw drop and realize that the real world is just as amazing as any science fiction story.  the stuff on einstein's relativity is wonderful.

Seems as a new member you can get it for $11, might be interesting to some people:

note that audible uses a somewhat annoying drm system that may make it difficult to listen to this on some portable mp3 players, etc., so check that out first if that's what you want.  It's a shame they make it so hard to convert these audio books into mp3 format even for your own use.  having said that, i still think audible is a great deal if you like audiobooks, and they have nice reviews and good searching, etc., so i give them a thumbs up.

PopUp Wisdom / An idea for a gift to your significant other
« Last post by mouser on September 28, 2005, 07:09 PM »
if you have someone you love who has a computer, especially if you are long distance, a fun gift might be to make a special "book" of sayings from you to them - be creative, write a hundred or so small ones - and then send it to them with PopUp Wisdom and help them install it to pop up a new message from you once per day.

« Last post by mouser on September 28, 2005, 04:27 PM »
if there isnt a plugin for searching thebat mail from google desktop search / msn desktop search, there will be one soon -
i think the strategy for F&R will not be to try to compete with these search tools, because its not a winnable battle.

INSTEAD,
i propose that F&R get some plugins that let it search the databases of google desktop search, msn search, etc.
that way we can take advantage of all their hard work.

i will fix this right away since it will surely afflict everyone!

very much appreciated bug report.

ps.
if you have feature requests i'd love to hear them - check the todo list in the help file for stuff i already plan to add.

btw -
i apologize to everyone for not doing more work on CHS in a while - it really does need a lot more work to be a good application.
i have not abandoned it - it's just taking a little longer than i planned to get to another round of work on it.

yes, i was saying before that as a programmer, it is so incredibly wonderful to have friendly beta testers who are willing to report issues and test stuff - it makes development a lot more fun and enjoyable, so i can't tell you how much it helps me to have you guys+gals reporting these things.  it really does make it more of a team effort :)

i need to add a feature to chs that let's you tell it to ignore certain apps, and ignoring pastes smaller than n characters is a good idea too. both should solve your problem.  let me try to get a new release of process tamer, screenshot captor, and chs out in the next week.

can i ask you to test one thing for me -
if you change some settings, then exit the program (fully exit it by right-clicking on system tray icon and choosing Exit),
and then restart it from start menu, does it remember the settings then?
i.e. is it only when you restart computer that it forgets settings, or every time you restart program?

are you using windows xp/2k? do you know if you are logged in with a restricted account?

winrar sales support are as dysfunctional as the worst of them - it really boggles my mind sometimes how these companies operate...
but have no fear, we are on it and should have the free copies and discounts any day now.

btw, i should say this before you get tired:
these bug reports are super useful - they are the kind of little details that need to be fixed and i really do appreciate them.
i will try to have a new release of screenshot captor before monday which addresses everything you've found so far -
keep reporting the bugs and ill keep fixing them

in real life ants like to eat your foot from the table and rarely just walk around in a square forever :)

but i think you've found a bug - i'll report it to the author of the image selection routine.

as for the crop button - you don't have to push it twice, you just have to have something selected before it will work. i think the solution to your problem is that it should show a little message when you push crop and don't have anything selected yet; i will add that.

Screenshot Captor / Re: please help: mask looks ugly when image is hosted :(
« Last post by mouser on September 28, 2005, 07:14 AM »
it may have to do with transparency.
try this:
before you save it, select "merge background transparency" from Objects menu.

(note this will permanently merge the transparency and you wont be able to edit the mask anymore),
but it's worth a test.

ive been thinking if i shouldnt make an option for whether you want to save transparency info in the file or else merge it in the saved file.

let me know if the test solves your problem, it will help the decision making.

not at the moment - i spent some time looking into it and it's definitely something i will add, but i think we've got another round or two of improving the basic functionality before i get to scrolling window capture..

Screenshot Captor / TIP: add magnify.exe to your tool configuration
« Last post by mouser on September 28, 2005, 05:18 AM »
i'm thinking of adding a special magnify window panel showing wahts under cursor highly magnified,
but until then windows comes with built in magnify tool C:\windows\system32\magnify.exe
which you can simply add to your tools configuration in screenshot captor for easy use.
