still plenty left to add to F&R, see the long todo list:

ask for $$1 if missing from invocation
fix icons for alias group items
better url display

add ability to search firefox bookmarks

grab recently run external programs
add scoring by access date

preview panel?
alternate search view (browser view?)
custom hotkeys for aliases

when unchecking "start auto with window", its checked again on restart.
+executing with Short File Names causes opera confusion (always use long?)

ability to launch apps into background (minimized?)

add ability to interject filename into open/save dialogs

Find all doesnt seem to work right
even when remove dupes is not on, you should prevent dupes from favorites

when set to display relative path, display parent path if the relative path is \
separate words should act as AND searches rather than phrases (see esp)
search patterns on full paths and extensions? (see esp)

add scripts

-find in name of parent directory?

Folder name searching (ability to use \ to specify dir name pattern (so graph\photo would match graphics\photoshop).

Ability to specify an extension with a . (so photo.exe would match photoshop.exe)

Customizable sound effect when launching?
Speed up loading of ini files.
+make demo movies

Find And Run Robot / Re: Some Performance Questions and Suggestions
« Last post by mouser on October 03, 2005, 10:06 AM »
the delay on startup seems to be windows freeing most of the memory while the program is minimized..
thus it only happens after you haven't used the program in a while (try hitting break key 10 times in a row to toggle on and off and it should be fast).

i could probably make an option that tells F&R to not give up its memory when minimized, which would make it instantaneously startup when you hit break key, but which would make it use same amount of memory when displayed as when hidden.  should i add that?

Find And Run Robot / Re: Some Performance Questions and Suggestions

it shouldnt be performing a special scan of folders at startup until you start searching... i'll have to check that out.

as for caching searches... this gets to the whole idea of whether to use an index/database.. which we may add in a later version.
windows itself should cache directory indices which should reduce search time on incremental search - trying to add our own caching probably wouldnt do too much good.  using a real file index might though, so we should talk about this again in a bit, at least as an option at some point.. or piggybacking on another index (like google/msn/yahoo desktop search).

well i quite like it, but maybe he was saying that it doesnt quite communicate what it refers to. i.e. you don't see it and go "oh that must be a logo for a donationware site"

ok here's the first example, sort of:

type: agroups
you'll get a list of all alias groups known.  then hit one to show its contents
(this uses the alias command internally).

here's a second example:
maybe i have 4 searches i run all the time. i could put these all in a group called: myfiles
excel files | alias *.xls
word files | alias *.doc
powerpoint files | alias *.ppt
cat power music | alias *.mp3 catpower

now i can type "myfiles" and get a list of those 4:
1) excel files
2) word files
3) powerpoint files
4) cat power music

then when i hit 1,2,3, or 4, it will restart a search based on the alias info.

so its just a way of basically like making a menu of other searches.

it's also useful for having recursive lists.

like i might have an alias for imdb, dictionary search, google search
then to help me remember i might have one called internet
which just has an alias for each of imdb, dictionary, google

is somewhat clear?
and get a list of these 3 searches

question, do you have a non-english version of windows maybe?
35282
we definitely are on the lookout for a new logo -
the only problem is i really have no idea what size/theme/etc.
i guess we would want to use it in different places at different sizes, so i guess something that would look good small and large, on small site buttons and on t-shirts.

ideally it would capture the spirit of donationcoder.com :)

the closest i've seen to something that caught my eye was this clipart that skrommel found and combined from 2 pictures here:
http://www.dcmembers.com

i just love that image of a bird handing a coin to the programmer - it's just cute and sweet and i'm a sucker for that kind of stuff,
but really i don't have a specific image or style in mind..  would love to see some sketches..

lots of betas this week:

https://www.donation.../Beta/URLSnooper.exe

· Version 2.04.04 - 10/02/05
1) the method turning off promiscuous mode has been adjusted to better work around bugs preventing some lan adapaters (ibm) from sniffing unless promiscous mode is turned off in a specific fashion. If your adapter doesn't seem to sniff traffic make sure to try checking "only from this computer" option.
2) the only sniff from this computer option has been made default.

Please let me know if it works digger (make sure to check the box that says "only sniff this computer" in options)

note that you do not have to reinstall winpcap, and you can install this version on top of older version without uninstalling.

every help file of every donationcoder.com app has a section at end listing the changelog and listing related program.
you can also read this online by going to the program page and viewing the online help file (which is sometimes not updated as frequently).

for example F&R page is here: https://www.donation...r/findrun/index.html
once there you can click the "online help" link in left sidebar and go the version history page.

great :)
35289
m_s this is of course a fantastic idea, and might be smart to try to coincide fundraising events with trying to renew some of the discounts.
the real problem may just be that it's been too short a period of time since the discounts to get companies to offer them again :(

ok just saw your post about break key - so then it definitely is the strangeness of alt+space.
alt+space works here for me, try the focus preservation thing - if that fixes it for you then i will look into a different fix.

does it work fine if you configure a different hotkey?

alt+spacebar is a bit of a strange key and has some issues.  try also this with alt+spacebar: go to the Interface tab and choose one of the Focus Preservation options other than "Ignore", see if that helps.

thanks shangnyun,

i have to say, m_s, i'm actually enjoying the autosize-window feature you suggested, especially for using with group aliases, which now will show as many alias items as are in a group (this was actually a great suggestion made by someone in the F&R section), so that sometimes there are as little as 3 results and sometimes as many as 30, so it really does help to have the screen autosize to fit.  was a good suggestion.

just finished it.
extremely enjoyable.  i highly recommend it.

Living Room / StarWreck full movie spoof on star trek and babylon 9 (english subs)

A 500mb bittorrent full-length movie spoof on star trek and babylon 9 (english subtitles).

http://www-fi.starwreck.com/index.php

i'm half-way through and *loving* it.  Very high quality fan-made movie, special effects are superb and the movie is extremely entertaining so far.  easily the best thing like this i have ever seen.

"The first Finnish full-length scifi parody is made from astounding special effects, action and loads of dark humour. It is the product of a core group of five Finns and many people who've helped us during the seven years it has been in the making. You can download the entire movie by clicking here. For free, of course. "

ps. someone asked about the use of bittorrent and here is a great legal example.

99% of people will not want to create their own regular expression group aliases, which is what that thread was about -
however, what i was trying to say was just what you were asking for, which is that soon F&R will come with a
PREDEFINED BIG SET of commands which should blow away these commands built into approcked, and it will be easy for users to share them.

here's an example:
1) download the file: https://www.donation...wnloads/aliases1.ini
2) go to F&R options, and from Import&Export menu, choose import and then browse to and select that aliases1.ini file

you will now have some new commands in your F&R:
imdb -> to get info on web about a movie just type: imdb [MOVIENAME]
search -> to run one of several web searchs just type: search [SEARCH WORDS]
define -> to run a web dictionary search on a word type: define [SEARCH WORDS]
www -> to go to any site just type the site url (for example www.donationcoder.com)

so not only does f&r give you the ability to make your own commands but you can easily share them and we will try to build a big set for inclusion with F&R version 2.

these commands are all defined as aliases so you can go see what they look like (and modify them) after you import them in the last page of the options dialog.

you might have a hard time finding a free host that will let you run such a system, since it will require things like databases and php, etc.

depending on what you want to do with it and how much bandwidth it's likely to use, we might be able to set it for you here; one of the few things we can do for our members is provide some free web space with full services like php etc.

disk space isn't really the issue, it's more an issue of bandwidth and purpose.  we won't host commercial sites and we can't host huge bandwidth sites, but other stuff we're open to.  you can post more info or email me directly ([email protected]) if you want to talk about it more.

also let's not forget, once we build a good default set of regular expression alias groups i think F&R is going to get a whole new life.

thanks for the nice words elpresi.
i'm always looking to hear ways we can improve the software on this site - and there are lots more things planned for F&R (see the ToDo list in the F&R help file).

if you look around the forums youll find that i take bug reports and feature suggestions VERY SERIOUSLY.
in fact this forum has been the main source of ideas for programs like F&R robot and Screenshot Captor.
