there is no reason that screenshot captor shouldnt be saving 100% pure non-lossy image files depending on the format and compression, so this shouldn't be an issue if you want perfect captures..

what file format are you using?
i may have the compression settings at minimum not really at minimum, when you tell me the file format ill go check.

ok im fixing those other problems..

if you change to saving a dif file format, and the last file is a dif file format does the problem go away?

if so, then here's what im thinking, there is something about those png it doesnt like - once another file is loaded, it sets some parameters and after that the pngs can be loaded ok.  can you compress and send me one of your evil png files?

sorry my bad, i disabled that function.
actually it doesnt matter anyway, i realized it should be trying to reload the file when you click on it in thumbnail anyway.

this is really strange.

can you tell me 1) the format of the file.
2) what is shown on statusbar when you click on it (after program loads)
3) anything unusual about the file? does it have objects?

while it is still showing blank, go to File menu and select "discard all changes to file", see if that causes it to display or else give an error in status bar?

does the name and comments box show info for the file?
and in the status bar, it says "Loaded xxxxxx"?

if you change screenshot captor to not start minimized, does it still happen?

ok i guess its something else then..
hmm.. trying to think what it could be..

so on startup the window is blank.
if you then adjust the zoom, does it suddenly display?

do you have your screenshot captor set to start minimized or not?

i should increase middle version occasionally and use last version for builds instead of every update.
the reason i dont update the release page when doing tests is that
it gets picked up by sites like fileforum and announced.

ok new version up, see if it works.  if so then i still need help testing why the old code wasnt working.. if it doesnt work then its a dif bug we need to fix.  ps check your about box, it should say 2.00.18 now (i think previous version should have said 2.00.17 btw unless i messed up).

this is coming, and soon.
i'm making my was as you can see through all of the features planned for v2, and i think we now have a clever solution to how the user would interface with this feature.

to recap the method i plan on implementing:
basically they can be viewed as "search modifiers".

in the search folder list tab and pattern scoring tab, each entry will now have a new edit box in its configuration called "search modifiers".

here you can type a list of keywords that indicate when to apply the filter.

so for example you might add a folder
E:\MyMp3s
and set search modifiers to:
mp3 music

and add a folder:
E:\MyWaveAudio
and set search modifers to
wav music

and add a folder:
E:\MyDocuments
and set search modifiers to
* mydocs

and add a score pattern:
*.mp3
and set search modifiers to
mp3 music



ok so now if you want to search for an mp3 file by bob dylan you might type:
"dylan +mp3"

that says
search for 'dylan' and use all search folders and score pattern that match the modified 'mp3'

or just to find dylan wav files
"dylan +wav"

or to find dylan wav and mp3 files
"dylan +music"
or
"dylan +wav +mp3"

or search for dylan mp3s but specifically skip the MyDocuments directory (which you've configured to search by default because of the * above):
"dylan -mydocs"


it seems to me like an elgant keyboard-centric power user solution.. opinions?

i was just teasing - i understand the desire to streamline these things. and since it is a keyboard-centric tool, we do need to add keyboard ways to bring up options, etc.

you know what just struck me, now that we have skins, maybe someone can make a skin thats basically invisible.
i.e. just a floating edit box and results list, but no windows background or border..  could be interesting to see if it looks ok.
now that would be minimal.

it should not crash on win98, in fact it should work fine on windows 98.
the crash is surely coming from the winpcap network sniffing drivers; the support pages for these are here: http://www.winpcap.org

maybe you can find something about it there?  it may be due entirely to the usb connection to the router rather then the fact that it's windows 98 at all.

actually if you are feeling adventurous, maybe you could try this test program that uses another network sniffing engine:

that program is just a test program but if it works it tells me that a version of url snooper could be made which works on your computer.

the toolbar is resizable by dragging - you should be able to drag it all the way to the right and thus make it invisible..

i guess i'm not applying the compression settings in options to the "Save As" routine.. so its saving the png without compression -
ill add a special slider to options to you can set the Save As compression settings.

im not sure exactly what is going on but here is what i think:
1) it THINKS it is already displaying the last image, but its not.
2) so when you click on it, its refusing to *redisplay* it.
3) so if you click on another, and then back on last, it displays it, is that right?

if so then i think i can fix it asap.

i'm afraid this is probably the result of the new code i added which is supposed to detect the sitation when you delete the current image and its trying to change to a blank image..  must be a bad side effect of this i'm afraid.  let me try to recreate and study.
