Version 4 is just around the corner, but has been delayed by a few factors.  A lot of the delay has been a lot of the technology developed late in the process. I felt it was worth the wait, and I will have a pre-release out very shortly.

When 4.0 is released, Sagelight will go up to $79.95 in price, with an eventual price increase after that.

Until the next version is released, you can get get a lifetime version for just $39.95 (click here). There will be a pre-release of the new version in just a few days.

How about Presto:
http://www.prestomypc.com/

Close. Something similar, but simpler. Just word processing.

You don't get it any simpler or faster than Presto!

Presto is based on Linux, installs into a folder on XP/Vista (no Win7), and can be adjusted just like you want it to. If you know how to operate Linux, Presto can be micromized according to your needs.

It has been abandoned for way more than a year - no support - but a number of users are ("were"; the forum is of course also dying; last post was in Nov. 2010) quite happy with Presto. Sadly, a full key still is $20, but the trial is fair; you may test it for seven days, and after the trial period Presto continues to work without a key, but then only for ten minutes at a time.

-thanks, for explaining to me why I never use Super Flexible... ;-)

One minor misfeature is that the program (like many other programs) will put an entry into Start (ExtremeSyncService) even if there are no profiles created and therefore no reason to start.

Found Deals and Discounts / InPaint v3.0
« Last post by Curt on January 11, 2011, 05:40 AM »
-no! Sorry that I haven't corrected my mistake! Version 3 is actually the better one. When I wrote the other thing, I was very disappointed with the new marker / selector in version 3.  I still am, but no longer "very". But the program has improved (though still a LONG way from what Photoshop users have demonstrated). The most important rule to know is, that it is of no use to think one can remove complicated areas in one go. It is vital to attack small well defined areas one by one - and to remember that the area from where the user want the program to copy, can (and often should) be changed.

Congratulation, Tom. This is quite exciting! :-)

I need to say that it made me feel uneasy when I saw my name spelled out in full, next to an enlarged copy of my facebook picture. Will it be possible to change these features, or Should/Must/Can I cancel my account?

General Software Discussion / Re: The software awards scam
« Last post by Curt on January 10, 2011, 01:59 AM »
Not exaggerating, but re-phrasing: "They can't all be that bad". No, they aren't. And that's what the initial article also said:

... submitting “awardmestars” to all 1033 sites on their database, ...

According to the report I received 2 weeks after submissions began “awardmestars” is now listed on 218 sites, pending on 394 sites and has been rejected by 421 sites. Approximately 7% of the sites that listed the software emailed me that it had won an award

The software awards scam (update): 23 awards.

So, what we're saying is, "at least 7% really is that bad".

Is this figure changing? For better or for worse?

General Software Discussion / Re: Cool Free Color Picker Tools
« Last post by Curt on January 09, 2011, 06:45 PM »
Nice. I guess most of us already have a colour picker as part of our (third-party) screenshot capture program, like I have in FastStone Capture > Screen Color Picker > "Copy to clipboard". But I must say, PKcolorPicker is very nice - at least to look at. Thanks, Edvard!

And thanks, cranioscopical, for reviving the thread! Maybe you should put a link in your Control Panel, or similar exclusive place. I made a link in Quick (True) Launch Bar > Accessories, because I can never remember the name of my programs, but order makes me know where to find them ;-)

updated 13 December 2007:

The software awards scam (update)

23 awards.

The article got a surprising amount of interest, including front page mentions on reddit, digg, slashdot and wordpress and a mention in the Guardian newspaper (they were too mean to give the URL of the article). There were also some entertaining reviews posted on download sites. The page has so far had over 150,000 hits, 263 comments and a Google page rank of 6. I hope this exposure will make a small contribution to ending this sordid little practice.

It has been quite instructive to be on the receiving end of the news, albeit in a small way. Much of the commentary was inaccurate. One ‘journalist’ from ZDNET Belgium/Holland even managed to get both my first name and last name wrong, which is quite a feat considering we had exchanged several emails. I don’t know how many other mistakes he made, because the rest of the article was in Dutch or Flemish. I wonder if the mainstream media is much better. Definitely don’t believe everything you read.
-update

So, does anyone today think the article made "a contribution to ending this sordid little practice."?
Edited: Let me re-phrase my question:
Is the problem smaller, unchanged, or even bigger today?  :tellme:

January 7, 2011: http://www.giveawayo...ner-photo-studio-13/

By all means, grab Zoner Photo Studio Home 13,
by no means, ugrade to Zoner Photo Studio Pro 13.

I have just upgraded from Zoner Pro 12 to Pro 13, and I was disappointed. The new version has of course improved, just not in the areas that I would want it to! It has some new features, upload to your facebook account, etcetera, and the photo manager clearly is working faster, so a new major version may easily be justified. But what goes for the integrated editor, the reason I wanted to upgrade in the first place, the news are very hard to spot. They say something has been changed, and one day I may figure out what, but for now I can not see any reason to upgrade to version 13 Pro if you already have version 12 Pro or 13 Home.

Just maybe you didn't know but would like know because like me you're the kind of guy who loves to say to yourself that you are saving money when in fact you're purchasing yet another piece of software that you don't need, that Bits du Jour not only is for daily deals, but also has a very long list of every-day deals. In fact the list is so long you can click the line "Load more every-day deals" surprisingly many times - I didn't reach the limit.

That is, if you can find the "Load more every-day deals" line. This is how you find it: Go to http://www.bitsdujour.com/previews (yes, "previews"), (edited: "and log in") and scroll down below "Upcoming Deals", below "Search", below "Latest Forum Posts", below "Suggestions", to "Every-Day Deals" and "You don't always have to wait for a great deal, check out these little beauties!". When you have checked the alleged beauties, look in the left margin, and if you see this:

09b.gif , you are in the right position!

What goes for the alleged beauties, well... I am not overly impressed. But, hey, I'm from Scandinavia! Eh... back on subject: I fear that some (most?) of the offered programs may have been overpriced to begin with. If this is why Iconico doesn't shout out to the world about their existence, I don't know. But they are on offer EVERY-DAY, on Bits du Jour!

the list is so long you can click the line "Load more every-day deals" surprisingly many times

Version 12 is ready. Because I somehow grabbed version 10 for free, I am now offered to upgrade to version 12 for half the full price. Hence the "$100 off"! Sorry... the full key is not on offer - I just didn't care to begin a new thread. However, their homepage is of the best quality, so no matter what version 11 was like to Innuendo, somehow Fusion 12 must be good ;-)

http://www.screenplay.com/t-returns.aspx
All programs and books purchased directly from Write Brothers, Inc. include a full money back guarantee less shipping charges incurred on the original order.
Now that sounds more interesting! In that case I might give it a try, though I still HATE to part with my money first and then try to retrieve it if it doesn’t work out.

It gets even worse:

When returning a download only order, we ask that you call Write Brothers, Inc. directly so we may provide you with an Intellectual Property letter for you to sign which states you have removed the program from all computers.

When this letter is faxed to our offices at 818-843-8364, we will initiate the refund process within 1 business day.  When calling, please have your order number and/or customer ID number ready so we may more conveniently service you.

They don't make it too easy.
