"opportunity for Outpost users to interact directly with the product’s
developers."-I hope this is true.

Cut and paste...

OUTPOST FIREWALL PRO 3.5 – WHAT’S COMING NEXT?

Good news for Outpost Firewall Pro users! You can expect even better protection
against Internet threats with the new version 3.5, coming in February next
year. This next version will offer greater integration between the firewall and
anti-spyware functionality, tools to boost Outpost’s performance, and an
opportunity for Outpost users to interact directly with the product’s
developers. Here’s more:

Tighter Anti-Spyware and Firewall Integration
Users’ systems will be automatically and proactively scanned for spyware if the
firewall detects any suspicious Internet activity patterns, even if the
real-time spyware protection isn’t running. This will keep protection levels
high and minimize performance impact.

Log Exclusions
Users will be able to define log exclusions for a particular Internet or
network activity such as peer-to-peer sharing or NetBios communication. This
will keep Log Viewer data clear of clutter and may improve computer
performance.

Improved Feedback Loop
The new ImproveNet will enable Agnitum developers to collect and review users’
application Internet access configurations and program usage statistics,
including information that explicitly identifies an application by its
unique parameters, such as checksum and version data. This data in turn
enables the developers to expand the existing database of known
applications and make more automatic access rules available to users.

The new version will also feature distribution and automatic application of new
rules. After a new access rule has been received and ratified by Agnitum, it
will be automatically shared with other Outpost users, obviating the need to
manually create manual for Internet-accessing programs. The principle is the
same as for spyware definitions updates and will increase usability and lead to
fewer prompts.

My intentions (speculations) was not to spread fud,i agree there is no such thing as bugless software. But i visit
a lot of forums and every where i go  enthusiasm for 1.5 has dropped off.In short, any step away from IE is a
step in the right direction.Though who knows,Microsoft might shock us with their next release and if they do
i cuddle with with Microsoft,i'll go where the quality is.It's actually a shame there is only a handfull of browsers
to check out.But yeah, don't get the ideal i'm spreading fud about firefox.
354
heh,i knew i was on to something :-\
Felt it in my bones.

Just read this over at the http://www.thehotfix.net/

http://www.thehotfix...=1&shownews=1108
...
work has begun on 1.5.0.1, which is due for a late January 2006 release. This release would consist of security fixes, including the one found recently (Secunia), bug fixes, top crashers, and the like. It's also expected that there will be a Firefox 1.0.8, Mozilla 1.7.13, and possibly a Thunderbird 1.0.8 release at this time.

Pure speculation on my behalf...(and i'm not bashing Firefox)

After bouncing around various mozilla sites...
http://www.mozilla.o...ducts/firefox/start/
http://www.mozillazine.org/

I find 1.07 still being pushed.Yes you can click around 1.5 is not hard to find, but the enthusiasm doesn't
seem to be with 1.5.I check the forum at  mozillazine and their are all sorts of complaints of memory bloat
and compatibility issus with flash and adblock, etc.(Mozilla developers need to rethink it's extension compatibility
as apposed to developers of  extension rewriting their stuff after new releases, imho.I'm waiting on a 1.5.1 i
guess is what i'm saying, any others doing the same?

I've actually cuddled up with Opera's browser during my wait, and after a month of kicking it around it has started
to grow on me.The way it handles bookmarks needs work(lord, how i miss right clicking from the bookmarks dropdown menu in Firefox.

356
Very true especially when implementing a forum into your site. This stunted ExpressionEngine's growth for the
longest time cause people had to bring their own forum(they have a forum module now,50 bucks)and when they
brung their own forum you had to register once to comment on the blog, then register again to participate in
their forum.

I think the free core version is to attract more programmers. While it has a large following,it has a small group
of developers.Nothing beats a community of loyal followers.Simple machines has a lot of contributers, they mentioned something about releasing a CMS about a year ago,is that what this site is built on or is it home brewed?

UrlSnooper / Re: problem with snooping certain url
« Last post by tinyvillager on December 16, 2005, 09:37 PM »
I think the anti-leech script confuses urlsnoop...but if you open the page with embedded clip (view source)
look for the like that has the hotlink stuff ,uh,lets see if i can give an example(i have no ideal what this clip
is,if it's bad Mod please remove)Say you you click on the wants my job clip....forward to embedded clip...now
view source and and cut in past the first clip(skip  rateit.php?video=wants-my-job.wmv)into your favorite
download manager.Remember when running into streaming media not all download managers our the same.

Hope this helped i actually did this with URLSNOOPER and Nettransport and it worked.

http://www.pmachine....ee/new_core_version/

I used to run a blog off of a pmachine installation and it was really nice, easy and straight foward.
I've fiddled with ExpressionEngine and it's pretty powerfull stuff.Nice community surrounding it aswell.

I highly recommend it to anyone thinking of starting a site.

I'm a huge documentary fan and i've been seeing some hard to find content at these online rental places and was wondering if anyone out there has any horror stories i should know about or fine-print i should read before diving in.

Thanks.
361
No,obvious is cool,i stumble in the graphics department and after googling around i realized the terms vector graphics actually doesn't mean a specific file type like i assumed i.e. .svg.Under that assumption i was wondering
if one could embed a .svg file into a page like as you can with .jpg. .png,etc.The whole question began in my
head when i right clicked a file .svg created by inkscape and opened it with Opera.Pretty cool.Seems it would
be even better than .png.I'll have to do further investigation. Thanks for imput.
362
Any web designers out there have opinions about limits, pros and cons of using vector graphics when designing
webpages.I just stumbled upon Inkscape and the file sizes it creates are amazing. But amazing is not that amazing
if it's not universally accepted.

General Software Discussion / Reformat iPod without ipod updater?
« Last post by tinyvillager on December 02, 2005, 11:00 PM »
Is there a way, application, out there that can reformat an iPod without that gigantic ipod updater software?

P.S.
Will never buy an ipod again, all the software applications needed are way too cumbersome.
Yeah i got the winamp plugin, yeah you can get the foobar2000 foopod or whatever, but man, shell out 300+ bucks
for a gadget,should be better.Thats my rant.

Living Room / Re: The Great Firewall Hunt ... frustrating ...

Outpost needs better support, from the company. While i appreciate the user created forum,i feel this is not enough
considering a company that charges 39 bucks for a single lincense and 200 bucks for the office model,if i shelled out 200 bucks and was referred to a user created forum(absolutely great forum )i'd flip. The responses
from the actuall company is in the neigborhood of a week's wait.I just snapped up a two year renewall a month or
so back so i'm hangin in there.I guess i just want more life from a company.I've seen similar feeling in another thread about trillian. You shell out your money, you want to be in the loop.I should get an email from the company,
especially if it's a security company if issues have been found with a current release.

General Software Discussion / Re: Strange sites in my registry
« Last post by tinyvillager on November 28, 2005, 12:27 AM »
Thanks for reponses.Seeing how i've scanned with all sorts of scanners(rootkit,ant-virus;malware,etc)I think it's just part of a blocklist.Opera does imitate IE,so that might be something, don't know.I'm thinking it's nothing major
at this moment.Outpost tracks all incoming and outgoing and i've never seen them show up in the outpost logs.

 ;D

This leaves me miffed,i just did a fresh install like two weaks ago.I've been using Opera, holding off on installing
Firefox until 1.5 lands stable. But back on point i don't see how something could seep into the registry when
my cookies are always disabled, firewall up,anti-spyware ah'scann'in(btw anti-spyware,anti-virus did no alert
me of this)after i uninstall software, i use total uninstall, i still go through the registry manually, that's how i
found this, and i'll be honest :-\ the skin pix i look at are on ,well, not the hardest of core sites, none of that
fourth level domain,"virgin teen" being abused by a horse crap. Not knock'n it if your into that sort of thing.

This reponse is getting too honest, what's up with my Registry dammit

P.S.
If i don't respond to this thread until monday,it's because i'm leaving town for Thanksgiving.
Have a great Holiday.

Thanks for response,
My enthusiasm strayed a little after my upgrades.I got so locked into hardware issues and Windows customizing
the ideal kind of took a back seat,i sincerely appreciate your help though.I've toyed with live distros but i'd like
to commit. But the thougts of dual booting seems scary.I just need to buckle down and really do some homework
on it.When Microsoft starts bleeding into it's next OS,Vista i believe,i'd like to go a different direction even if it means going to a mac.

It's under a key which  is called zone map which trickles down to a domain folder which trickles down to like a hundred or so domain names that look like porn or gambling.

And honestly i don't go to these types of sites, honestly, seriously.

General Software Discussion / Strange sites in my registry
« Last post by tinyvillager on November 22, 2005, 07:11 PM »
I practice good computer hygene,anti-virus,anti-malware,reg cleaners,and anti-spyware.
I was going through my registry last night and found this list of sites from casinos to porn.
Could this be a preconfigured list of no-no's from a security app i have installed or could
something funky be going on?

I have spybot and adaware for anti-spyware,f-prot for anti-virus,Outpost Pro for firewall and Boclean for malware.

I agree with m_s ,especially in the multiple accounts department. It's very difficult to find an email client that
handles multiple accounts correctly.I'm using the bat right now, decent, though not perfect (they seriously need a better update system),and someone tell me how to disable that splash screen. :mad:I used Becky before that,
pretty good, but the way it's developed makes me nervous, too back alley for lack of a better term.

Hey,nobody knows what that means cause i left out the "a". 8)

I walk away from a my computer for a couple of days and look what happens. This discussion can go down many roads, which it has already, and everyone makes great points.I was only pointing out my shock that a company with stock holders interests at hand would not implement a language filter as not to offend their investors.Grant it not everyone is offended my such language,i'm not,i'm more concerned about physical offenses.Like i've stated i'm not for censorship, but i  believe there is nothing wrong with categorization.Your content is still accessible, just categorized.I did email google, not to scold but to inform, maybe get something free, lol. They emailed me back (automated) telling about how their news system is based on some sort of algorithm, which i remember reading about a year or so back, but hey i wanted a google hat or something, nada, cheap b*stards, lol.I still love google's search engine. In short my argument,or assumption rather was technical and not moral.Group hug, group hug.

P.S.
Apologies for making a controversial thread.

P.P.S
I just used google to learn how to spell  apologies and controversial.
