Get an old Microsoft XBOX (the first generation, can be found very cheap on eBay, or from some friends that upgraded to newer consoles) with the DVD remote controller, install the free XBMC on it, and connect it to your network with a wireless access point.
You'll get one of the most flexible & feature packed media center around.

I missed the page to, or seen it too much time ago.

Oh, about the "hello" section at the bottom of the page.
Mouser, for the Italian, maybe instead of "Buon giorno" you could put a "Ciao": it's more friendly and informal!

There are some free (or non free, depending on the granularity of the checking and various other limitations) services that can do that. For example, I'm using from some years SiteUptime, and I find it very useful.

Seems that the eee PC can withstand a fair amount of tortures!

Check this french video: DailyMotion - Tests résistance (Chocs, chaleur, froid)

1 hour run at 40c, and then also outdoor at about 0c.
Drop from chair height, from 1 meter, and from a table.
On moquette and hard floor. Closed and also with the screen open!

Hard Drive? Thanks, but no thanks! :)

Seems a bit of a "damage control" measure, to try to reassess the Vista image, that IMHO in the last months have faded a bit even within the general public.

Best forum for info & discussions about search engines, websites marketing, advertising programs, etc.:

Digital Point - Webmaster Forum - Internet Marketing & Search Engine Forums

Typically there are about 2000 users online. Lots of noise, but also nice info.

Not on the list but: System Shock! An experience!

Quoting from Wikipedia:
GameSpy compared the game's commercial performance to that of Vincent van Gogh's paintings, declaring that "the best computer game of 1994 ... came and went whilst everyone was busy killing each other in Doom II."

If I remember correctly, iPhoto can automatically resize a photo to a reasonable format when sending it it by mail - or is the Mail application that does it when you paste / attach a photo.

About 20-25 sec. to be finished / ready to run.
On the eee PC with the default Xandros!  :)

General Software Discussion / Re: How much email do you keep…and why?
« Last post by Mark0 on February 01, 2008, 04:35 PM »
I always used to keep all the email I had. Save for some sporadic pseudo catastrophic events (the ones that teach you to backup things), I has followed that ideal.
Now that I'm used to Gmail, it doesn't even be something I have to think about.
I just try to get my Inbox/unread folder clean, and archive mail as I deal with it. Sometimes it's more easy to say that than do that, off course! :)

I dont know what the graphics chip can do
It's a standard Intel GMA 900. Not the state of art, but quite a decent solution for such a small machine. It doesn't have hardware T&L or vertex shader but, hey, it it's good Quake 3, it's good enough! Really, lots of games run surpraising well.

My take is that they made the screen just a bit too small, who needs such large speakers?
The speakers actually are quite small too. It's only their cover that extend to enclose the display. The 7" was choose probably just as a cost compromise.

Like tsaint, I too was surpraised by how well the WiFi works. It keep the connection with my A/P from spots in my house or backyard that I had considered "dead zones", based on the experience with other devices.
The entire machine feel very snappy & responsive: at times you don't really expect such a speed for a machine so tiny, so it's a nice surprise.
It's also a very versatile & hackable (in the good way) device.

General Software Discussion / Re: windows security - what's really necessary?
« Last post by Mark0 on January 29, 2008, 07:20 AM »
Me too.
I remember the times of the firsts release of Kerio Firewall (while it was actually an interesting piece of software), with hours passed at experimenting with various rules to block this, make that working, and so on! :)

Now I relay on the NAT Router/firewall combo, a free AV (that haven't really detected a threat in... well... never!), and Firefox (or any browser that don't use the IE engine). If I have to go on the move with a laptop, the integrated software firewall to just close some doors will be OK. Add the occasional scan with some antispyware tool (but not something resident, thanks).

Other than that, I find that a lot of security tools end up causing more problems / issues than they supposedly solve.

Looking back, seeing at how the personal software firewall market evolved from about inexistent some years ago, to everyone-and-his-dog-build-a-personal-firewall of today, I can't help but thining that probably Steve Gibson had some part in spreading the "hysteria".
A big IMHO, obviously.

Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Re: File Extension Seeker
« Last post by Mark0 on January 22, 2008, 09:30 AM »
By the way, here's a thing I just happened to notice.
An interesting side effect of putting online the firsts bytes / header / magic from my TrID definitions on File Extension Seeker listing, is that Google will index that too.

So, if you Google for some kind of bytes, chances are that you'll find a results from the Seeker's pages.
For example, this one come from an hexdump of someone searching for info about some .TST file:

Google "1A 46 53 43 54"

Thanks for the info.
The more I read about it, the more it intrigue me! :)

One thing that bother me a bit is that Bluetooth isn't included by default; that would have been handy.
Off course there are lot of mod that details how to add it (along many other things; it's a very "hackable" object!), but that will certainly void the worranty...
