Screenshot Captor / Re: 4U: new clips for screenshot illustration

in some recent posts by you and brotherS i think it has been shown how useful it is to be able to add number labels.
i'd love to see some very attractive ones, like a number in a circle, with the numbers from 1-10.

like this with numbers:

actually maybe some copyright symbol collections would be nice!

Find And Run Robot / Re: F&RR does mathematics...
« Last post by mouser on October 17, 2005, 03:46 AM »
i could add a calculator to F+R but let me suggest that instead i concentrate on the plugin system (after i add multiple keywords and other stuff planned), since this would be a perfect first application for a plugin.

in other words, yes let's add this, but let's add it as a plugin.

you mentioned that a file explorer replacement also cant access certain files, can you see if that includes the disk defragmenter that caused the problem with find+run?

the changing of shortcuts is, needless to say, not something that F+R is doing, but windows sometimes will change a shortcut when it cant find the target so it sounds like that is the cause.. but why is the real question..

Site/Forum Features / Re: Ads On The Website - Everyone Read In Please
« Last post by mouser on October 16, 2005, 04:45 PM »
reviews and software written by others on the site have now been tagged with special channel ids, so those authors will now receive 100% of all ad revenue from those pages.

and in keeping with this spirit, we realize that this forum community is important to all of us, and we are going to try to find a way to automatically share any of the ad revenue coming into the forum with those who help out here.  just have to figure out a reasonably fair way to do it.  it probably won't be very much but you can always donate it to a charity and it will be a nice feeling :)

very interesting -
i'm hoping someone with some experience with this issue might be able to help.  it seems to me we should be able to fix this, just a matter of finding a trick or two.  maybe there is some way to give F+R special permissions? or run it as admin permissions?  i think this is definitely worth following up on, and if anyone has any hints, i'd like to follow up on this and make sure it works - it may come in handy with windows vista.

Site/Forum Features / Ads On The Website
« Last post by mouser on October 16, 2005, 03:15 PM »
After much discussion on this forum, and after getting approval from you guys+gals, we have incorporated google ads onto the website.

We thought a lot about whether this would be a good or bad thing, and we're still not 100% sure, but it did some like something worth experimenting with.

We had one major requirement before even considering the ads, and that was that donating(charter) members and honorary members, should not have to ever see such ads.

Hopefully we have accomplished this, and assuming you're recognized via your forum login, you should not notice any difference in the website, and you should not see any ads.  [of course if you are curious, just log out of the forum and browse around].

I look forward to hearing feedback from people about the new system.

As per requests, we will try to set up a system so that those who are members who want to enable ads for some unholy reason will be able to.

IMPORTANT:

To our supporters - please keep in mind that the ad system we are using, Google Adsense, is very aggressive about detecting people who are clicking just for the sake of generating clicks and revenue for the site, and they will probably not only ignore you if you start clicking on all the ads, but count it against you and the site.

So please do not start clicking on ads like crazy in an attempt to help us, because it won't help us.

One of the things we are really excited about with the new ads is the possibility of being able to easily and directly reward people who want to add content to our site, by sending them all of the revenue generated from their page.  We are committed to fairly compensating people who add value to the site and our intention is to send 100% of any ad revenue from a review or program page to the person who created that page.  I only regret we didn't have such a system set up in the past.

We look forward to any suggestions, comments etc.

it's probably just me but i am reluctant to use raid striping, just for fear of hd crash, even though it could give you better speed.
raid mirroring seems promising though, in terms of reliability.

for stability sake i've been performing the update on a separate installation - everything seems to be working well, ill move it all over to the main site today.

just trying to decide whether i should attempt to install movabletype on the test machine as well, to help me get more practice reconstructing the server configuration.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Handling of multiple keywords
« Last post by mouser on October 15, 2005, 12:48 PM »
i think this is good timing, because work on F+R has progressed steadily in recent weeks and this is one of the main features i've been wanting to add in order to justify a Version 2 release.  in fact it is the main feature that i consider essential before going to version 2.

the only question in my mind is the best way to let the user convey what they want.

does
"first second" mean find ONLY files with both keywords,
or find files with either, but score higher those with both?

or should we require special prefix like a search engine
so that +keyword means it MUST be present
-keyword means it must NOT be present?

Can Skrommels recent utility ("ShowDialogsToo") be told to do this already? https://www.donation...om/Software/Skrommel
or if not, maybe it's easy from skrommel to add support for this?
