Official Announcements / Re: SERVER IS BEING MOVED TONIGHT !! - EVERYONE READ IN!
« Last post by mouser on October 27, 2005, 10:40 AM »
two notes:

people might still experience episodes of your browser getting to the old site instead of the new one in the next 24 hours or so; nothing's wrong it's just the nameservers propagating the new address of the server to the entire internet.

i'm using the actual ip# in the urls of the new site for now, just will the nameservers propagate; by tomorrow everything will be back to the old donationcoder.com urls we all know and love.

yep, i don't know if anyone ever reads them, but i try to talk about this behind-the-scenes stuff in my blog entries whenever there is something to talk about, and i'll definitely talk about the move.

so far it's been pretty smooth, but this has been a pretty big move for us so there is plenty to talk about.

this is the new server - you might notice some strangeness as the address of the new server propagates through the various "nameservers" of the internet; it can sometimes take 24-48 hours for the new server address to be accepted by everyone's computer.

after that it should be smooth sailing

it's possible this person has just discovered the site right on this day when we are moving servers and interpreted it as meaning something fishy is going on...

if so, let me assure you that never since the good old days of "mission imposssible" would such an elaborate scam be designed to steal a a couple dollars worth of donations  ;D

Living Room / Re: RSS question...
« Last post by mouser on October 26, 2005, 10:41 PM »
i've been doing a lot of modifying of the smf forum scripts, so i can probably do this, can you explain a little more what you'd like; since i don't use the RSS feeds i'm not sure what they currently look like.

btw.
some requests may be discussed on simplemachines.org forum and if anyone ever has a request that's been discussed there it would save me some time to start with a pointer to it.

The domain name changes are going to be activated tonight to change to our new dedicated server.

The site may act a little strange until then.

I will add something to then top left of homepage and top right (news box) of forum on the new server so you can know if you are on the new server.

I may close the forum for a bit while the changes are made to avoid posts on the old board.

Find And Run Robot / Re: access Google desktop search from FaRR?
« Last post by mouser on October 26, 2005, 01:56 PM »
i've been considering ways to let FARR interface with google/msn/yahoo desktop indices..

a plugin interface for FARR is planned that will support such plugins, and i think that's that best and most general approach for this.. i hope that when we get nearer to actually implementing this plugin (probably not for a couple of months) that we can return to this discussion and figure out what would be the nicest way to do this.

yes, a very good idea and a planned feature - will be added soon.

also you will be able to drag and drop screenshots/images into your clipart directories to make it easy to add clipart to your library.

I've just gotten confirmation that our new dedicated hosting account has been activated, and I will be mirroring the site on the new computer in the next couple of days.

This is so exciting - a dedicated server is a big deal!

Hopefully soon the site will be smooth like butter  :D

I'll post more details as I make progress in moving the site to the new computer.

Thanks to everyone who has donated to the site so far - your donations have made this possible.   :-*

though I note that this new dedicated server is a huge financial leap and in order to keep it we need to have a good month of fundraising in november and get enough people who want to join in the webhosting project.

in newspaper writing they call this "burying the lead" (http://en.wikipedia....rg/wiki/News_writing).

and i should know, i do it a lot  ;D

Living Room / Re: Enhanced supporters yearbook
« Last post by mouser on October 26, 2005, 08:20 AM »
i like the idea of having a link to the supporter yearbook on the homepage.

and i think having a link from yearbook avatar to the person's (public) profile page sounds like a good idea too.  how exactly should we do the link? right now clicking on name or avatar brings you to person's webpage if they have one.  should we have these go to profile instead of webpage, or have one go to one and another go to the other? or add an additional little icon on yearbook when they have a website or something?

i will look into different optional viewing modes for it, including alphabetical and paged (i.e. split them into pages); i'm not sure yet how hard that will be to do.

there is a feature that lets you view from profile to view all posts by that person - but i'm not sure it's enabled for you guys/gals - is it?
34699
that looks quite useful..

It took me a minute after reading your post to realize which program you were actually recommending    :tellme:

i'd like to hear about a simple program for this as well - surely autohotkey would  be overkill.
