Hmmm... Their last blog post was last April...

Upgrade at your own risk as usual, please don't complain.

Gives more cause for pause...

From their price page:

Not intended for Consumer use.

It seems they might be in a bit over their heads for normal use.

Thanks for pointing it out though.

Ooops... My bad. My Volvo was a 940 Turbo (1992 - that I remember):

Super_Simple_resized_CIMG1190_800x600.jpg

Super_Simple_resized_CIMG1192_800x600.jpg

That's when I got it - I hadn't washed it up yet.

It ran very well. AC was broken, but hey, that's what the sunroof and windows are for, eh? :D

Alas, it was stolen...

I drove that car in Seoul after YEARS of just using public transportation & taxis. Public transport in Seoul is EXCELLENT! Absolutely fantastic. And if you want to take a taxi, they're cheap and you rarely need to wait more than 2 minutes - they are EVERYWHERE!

However, once I got the Volvo, man... I was just so much happier. The convenience of having a car, even in a city with some of the best public transportation in the world, just kicks butt.

To put it in a nutshell...

1) Go grocery shopping (or whatever shopping)
2) Buy groceries:
2-a) Buy just enough that you can carry?
2-b) Buy however much you damn well feel like?

One of A/B is for not having a car, and the other is for having a car. Let's play guess which? ;D :P

Answer
Oh sheesh! Figure it out on your own~! :P ;D

When I got to where I am now, the public transportation is poor, and ranked the worst among the major cities in the country - well, from a report I saw in a newspaper shortly after arriving. Anyways, I knew a car would be a must immediately - even before reading the report.

It's a decent car, and wasn't too expensive. They go forever if you take care of them. And, I'm due for a tune up.

It's really hard to beat that German engineering, nice ride Renny.  I couldn't list all the cars/trucks I've owned over the years, just way too many to list.  Just in the last 5 years I've owned 6 vehicles.  I just sold a 1970 Mustang Mach I that I've had for years and years, it was my sunny Sunday driver.  lol

The Fox was a good car... until some lovely driver pulled out in front of me from oncoming traffic out of the blue. Write off. Had her kid in the passenger seat - lucky I swerved enough or the kid would have been hosed - likely dead.

The Mercedez was relatively inexpensive. I had to get a larger sedan as my wife tends to get carsick in smaller cars, which so far has never happened with the Merc. I wanted a sportier car, but that was out of the question.

But honestly, you've got the slickest vehicle in this thread by far~! Love that Hummer! They're damn sexy beasts!

Cars in North American are dirt cheap compared to many other places. Here they're far more. Same with Korea. Malaysia is very strict as well as they have a domestic car industry to protect.

I'm looking to see what's out there for GPL compatible smart devices - phones & tablets.

I've seen this:

http://zareason.com/shop/zatab.html

But they're sold out.

My searches seem to turn up jack today (or my cold is just making me stupid), so I'm wondering if anyone could point me to anything.

I've read horror stories about "chargebacks" on paypal.  It's only dangerous for sellers of big ticket items, which is why I won't accept paypal for large purchases.  Apparently, from what I understand (but yet still don't understand) is someone will buy a car through paypal.  They take possession of the car and then make a chargeback to paypal for the order, however that works.  When it's all over and done with, you don't have the car or the money and paypal isn't liable in any way, which pretty much sucks.  I've had people try to buy big ticket items from me using paypal in the past, and I knew for a fact they were trying to scam me this way.  I emailed them back "Sorry, cash only"......
It's getting to where it's almost impossible to sell now days.  Crooks make fake cashiers checks and money orders.  By the time the check/money order bounces back the crook is long gone and untraceable and your out of the item and money.  And right when we thought paypal was there to save the day, the crooks figures out a way to screw you through them....

It's a bit of a different story for software compared to physical goods. I'd certainly be more careful for physical deliveries.

If you simply suck it up and issue a refund, you only lose that transaction. However, you could end up losing a chargeback fee if you try to hold your ground and lose. It's simply better to suck it up. Whether you're in the right or wrong has little to do with anything, unfortunately. Principles often leave you out of pocket. You can either be less of a victim, or a worse off principled victim. :(

I wonder if these are cases where:

1) User buys a piece of software using Paypal.
2) User receives software key/serial via email.
3) User then claims a fraudulent transaction and demands refund.
4) Paypal refunds user and seller loses that transaction and monies.
5) User now has a legitimate key/serial and is not out any money.

Perhaps?

I've had this happen maybe once or twice. It's not a reason to quit Paypal. I make much more money with Paypal than without.

When it comes to this case, well, it's going to happen every now and then. I figure just suck it up and move on.

So the question is: what should I do with the thing?

Well, I have an old HP PDA and a Palm III. I'm keeping them to donate to a museum in a few years. Or something else similarly silly. ;D

For those of my friends and family across the pond who have been caught up in the horse meat scandal..

(These were generated in Britain after DNA tests indicated that “beef” products in the Tesco supermarkets contained a lot of horse meat.)

“I'm so hungry, I could eat a horse....." I guess Tesco just listened.

Anyone want a burger from Tesco? yay or neigh?

Not entirely sure how Tesco are going to get over this hurdle.

Waitress in Tesco asked if I wanted anything on my Burger. So I had a
 £5 each way

Had some burgers from Tesco for my tea last night....I still have a
 bit between my teeth.

A woman has been taken into hospital after eating horse meat burgers
from Tesco; her condition is said to be stable.

Tesco are now testing all their vegetarian burgers for traces of unicorn.

"I've just checked the Tesco burgers in my freezer...AND THEY'RE OFF".

Tesco now forced to deny presence of zebra in burgers, as shoppers
 confuse barcodes for serving suggestions.

Said to the missus these Tesco burgers given me terrible trots.

To beef or not to beef. That is equestrian.

A cow walks into a bar. Barman says 'why the long face?' Cow says
'Illegal ingredients, coming over here stealing our jobs!'

I hear the smaller version of those Tesco burgers make great horse d'oeuvres.

These Tesco burger jokes are going on a bit. Talk about flogging a
dead.. agggghhh NO! NO NO NO!

However, it seems that Synergy is excluded from interacting with any program running in admin mode.

Where did you find this?  And is your normal account an admin?

I probably should have been explicit above. It's for any program that is "Run as administrator". If you see a shortcut with the little shield at the bottom, that's the same thing.

Just another quick little update for anyone interested in Synergy...

I finally put my laptop to work again. It has a stock trading platform on it, and how shall I put it without resorting to profanity? It's "difficult" to setup and get running properly. I spent 3 hours on it last night.

In any event, I setup Synergy on my laptop and had it running immediately. Super fast & easy.

But...

You knew there'd be a "BUT" in there somewhere...

The trading platform software runs in administrator mode. Which is fine. However, it seems that Synergy is excluded from interacting with any program running in admin mode. I double-checked with a command prompt in admin mode, and yep - no dice.

Also, if the program that's in admin mode has focus, Synergy cannot control get onto the screen or interact with it at all. You can still get back to other computers/screens, but the remote screen with the admin mode program effectively blocks Synergy completely until it has lost focus to anything NOT in admin mode.

I have a really crummy mouse connected to my laptop, and was looking forward to using my Logitech Performance MX as it is much nicer. (Funny thing, most people love my crappy mouse. I've been on other people's computers when they have the same mouse and I ask them how they manage to not lose their minds - then I'm stunned when they love it. Each to their own I suppose.)

Anyways, a small hiccup that shouldn't affect many people at all. Synergy is still darn good. I'm finding it quite smooth and quite enjoying it. Setting it up on the laptop was similarly simple - I only needed to add the name in the Synergy server on my main desktop and tada!

@Ren - it used to make me laugh too. Not so much any more.

I've moved past the angry phase into the feigned apathy (in an almost classical sense) phase. Not really sure how to phrase that properly... Anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. It just helps me to be a bit more stoic and lean towards laughing at the insanity. It's like the Keystone Cops in real life.

Let's play a game of name that dude! :D

“Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we're being run by maniacs for maniacal ends and I think I'm liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That's what's insane about it.”

“We live in a world where we have to hide to make love, while violence is practiced in broad daylight.”

"When it gets down to having to use violence, then you are playing the system’s game. The establishment will irritate you – pull your beard, flick your face – to make you fight. Because once they’ve got you violent, then they know how to handle you. The only thing they don’t know how to handle is non-violence and humor."

Dangerous games.

I sincerely hope China doesn't seriously frighten the USA.

For all their intelligence and sophistication, they still fail to grasp how utterly psychotic and violent this country and its leaders can get when seriously frightened. I would have thought the last 12 years alone would have presented enough examples that China wouldn't be so naive as to indulge in ongoing and obvious provocation like they seem to be doing.

Hahaha! I got a a good belly laugh out of that! ;D

Sorry, I'm growing weary of a "+1" which is a Google invention applied to everything.

Did they make it THAT easy?

It's a lot older than that. Google simply used it. It has been popular in the developer community for forever +1 day. ;)

Even a very small amount of alcohol, if you have antabuse in your system, will trigger horrific "I wish I would die" sickness.

And there are many things out there with alcohol in them. Perfume for example. You have to be VERY careful if you're on Antabuse. People have gotten so sick that they've died from the reactions it causes.

Compatibility.  Market-share.  Profit.  Those are most likely the three things that drove this, rather than the superiority of the technology.

Living Room / Create Your Own Pirate Bay?
« Last post by Renegade on February 19, 2013, 02:50 PM »
A fellow has done a good amount of work in downloading links from The Pirate Bay as well as information from the site. He's released it all and posted some analysis of it here:

http://runn1ng.github.com/piratebay.html

Lots of graphs and stuff.

Pirate Bay archival

Some time ago, I did an experiment on how small I can make all pirate bay while keeping the important information. People apparently liked it.

Well, now some months later, I wanted to do two things - first, make it even smaller and correct all the mistakes I did before. Second - I wanted to create another version that will have all the additional information - most importantly, all the comments and text information. For me, pirate bay is not just the torrents, but mainly the additional information - how fake is the file? What can I really expect inside?

So I did both.

You could reconstruct TPB from that information. (mostly)
