General Software Discussion / Re: Cliipboard
« Last post by jgpaiva on July 20, 2006, 06:56 AM »
I've had that error sometimes. It was because i was making it start with windows manually (by dragging a shortcut to it to the start menu).
Are you running the program from a shortcut?

Post New Requests Here / Re: Encrypt or lock an Autohot key script
« Last post by jgpaiva on July 19, 2006, 10:42 AM »
Actually, any ahk script is only a pain text file. So, encrypting it would make it not run.
BUT, every ahk instalation comes with a compiler.
You can compile your script (with a password so that it can't be de-compiled) and use it as a .exe in your flash drive. Another advantage of this method is that it'll even work on computers that don't have ahk installed.

Cool, looks like lots and lots of stuff is happening here on DC!

My Logitech keyboard has a program that does exactly this, I think it is called iTouch.exe, it shows when the special keys are pressed and does exactly what you described for the volume keys
True, and works very well, but it's only suitable for logitech keyboards. (i have one, and when the keyboard is disconnected, my laptop's keys don't get the on screen display).

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Zoom Player - the all-in-one media player!
« Last post by jgpaiva on July 18, 2006, 05:19 AM »
Fantastic post, javajones!
It's curious, I'm a bit like you. I am a bs-player user for many years now. I stopped updating it as soon as it became spyware-supported.
But, truth is i don't need to update it, as it preforms very well for what i need!
There simply isn't any player better for divx video (on avi) with subtitles. It handles subtitles like no other player, the only thing you need to do is drag and drop the subtitles on to the player and it's working. Even my sister that is completelly computer-iliterate can use it with no problems.
It can adjust subtitle delay with ease, just press ctrl+left/right while viewing the movie.
Also, bsplayer just feels right. when fast forwarding through a divx movie, it's lean, not like zoom player which goes jumping a bunch of seconds the whole way through.
Also, like you mentioned, the aspect relation is just sooo simple. Just press O and it's adjusted.
The pre-configured keyboard shortcuts also make much sense (i mean, isn't 'f' for fullscreen waaay better than alt+enter?)

Nevertheless, i use zoom player, only because it's versatile for all the other formats. For wmv I keep wmp, but for .mov and real formats i don't install any other player (quicktime is most probably the worst player ever, who whould think of having to pay for a player to be able to see a movie in full-screen????).

I also agree with you, there's no better audio player than winamp. Although i've already tried a bunch of them (most probably every single one out there), i never managed to get along and always went back to the old and cool winamp :)

Ps: something good was kept from wa3, ever seen the Winamp 3 default skin? It's the one i use :D

Living Room / Re: Problem with some keys/characters
« Last post by jgpaiva on July 17, 2006, 06:09 PM »
Believe me, i've been through that.
It's so frustrating, you can't replicate it, it's not documented anywhere, and you generally can't understand what the hack is hapening.
Truth is: i found this by pure coincidence. I saw someone mentioning the hotkey somewhere and only than i understood that was my problem.
Well... Glad i helped out! :D

chrisGrind: Notice that you can currently type "Search something" to search something in the web. You can also make "g something" work just as it does in opera. (there's a thread here in the forum that shows how to do it, i just can't find it right now)

I know what's happening. That has happened to me.
It's because when you press alt+shift (i think that's the combination), you switch to another keyboard layout. If you're not english, most probably you're switching to the english layout. (i'm saying this because i had the exact same problem).
Just search for it on the control panel and remove the english keyboard layout.

I specially like this one:

Myth - "The Windows Platform has more Security Vulnerabilities than the Linux/Unix Platform"

Reality - "Between January 2005 and December 2005 there were 5198 reported vulnerabilities: 812 Windows operating system vulnerabilities; 2328 Unix/Linux operating vulnerabilities; and 2058 Multiple operating system vulnerabilities" - Source

Living Room / Re: Amazing collaborative drawing site.
« Last post by jgpaiva on July 16, 2006, 06:09 AM »
I did see this thread before, but didn't pay much atention to it. Then, it was posted at the blog and i thought "well, possibly i should check it out". I'm glad i did!
This is incredibly well done. The concept is so imovative, having a giant wall of drawing is fantastic. Being able to browse through it is cool, and one can see it's very well done (you can't draw all you like, you have a limit, and there's some copy protection, you have to prove you are a human before doing a drawing).
Definitelly a very interesting find. Now i just wish i had any talent for drawings ;)

That means you'd like to have the key information displayed in the TitleBar of a window, right?
I guess the easiest way to do that would be for skommel to modify TicTockTitle and add it that functionality. If not, they would conflict with each.
Any opinions skrommel?

I don't want to be a C&P programmer...there are too many of those in the world already, copying someone else's buggy code and never fully understanding how it works. And that is one of the sources of bad software.
I sure support that statement! There's nothing worse than someone handing you a peice of copy-paste code, which looks like a bunch of different snipplets bound together by duct-tape. Then, you can't understand what the code is meant to do, can't debug it, and even worse: when you ask the person who sent you the code, that person doesn't understand it either!

Oh, at last the search function will work? Cool!

I didn't even notice the button wasn't there, i have a custom search defined in opera, for DC ;)

It's especially "sweet" when capturing arguments, e.g.:
(source, dest, *opts) = ARGV
would assign the first argument to "source", the second to "dest" and the rest into the "opts" array.
Ok, this quote takes crazyness to a whole new level. I do agree that it's fast to code and takes less space, but it becomes way too cryptical for my tastes.
I couldn't agree more when you mention that longer code = better code. The code mentioned is unsuitable for those who would like to make a program in which several developers can work. Also, updating such code becomes a giant headache. For me, code needs to be written in such way that when i scroll it, i can actually see what's happening there, so that fixing bugs, changing functionality, explaining to others and code reusing can be done.
I definitelly agree with the "use a struct" statement :)
