Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Minimized Startup not working
« Last post by mouser on November 10, 2005, 07:08 PM »
chs is going to finally get updated this month and we'll see if we can't get the rough edged off it - i do hope users of it can enter some bugs into the bug tracker, it does make life a lot easier for me in terms of finding and resolving issues.

strange -
does it fail to start minimized even when you set it to and run it manually (not at windows start up)?

it starts up minimized fine here, i've never had a problem with that.

i wonder if you couldn't use one of the programs like website watcher to enter urls for your packages and then it will alert you when the status changes (that would give you minimize to tray, etc.)

Two different press-release type things...

If you know a website/mailing list/forum/tvshow/magazine/etc that might be interested in something like this, please do pass it along (even better would be to personalize it to include your thoughts and words).

1) I wrote this one to c|net news.com:
I'm writing to tell you about a site we've been running for almost a
year now with little notice from the mainstream internet.

Donation-based software often seems like the ugly-stepchild of the
software industry.  We're trying to revive it as a viable approach to
ethical software.

We've got tons of professional quality freeware and we're trying to
focus on the building of a community of software developers and
software aficionados who are willing to support them.

I hope you can take a look at our site and see if it's something worth
doing a story on.  So far our freeware software is extremely popular,
but the broader spirit and message of our site had been hard to
communicate, just because it's something people aren't used to.

2) i wrote this one to betanews.com news:
"DonationCoder.com Fundraiser and Software Giveaway"

After almost a year of operation, the donation-based software site
DonationCoder.com is holding its first fundraiser.

To celebrate the event, and the move to a faster server, throughout the
month of November DonationCoder.com will be giving away tons of software
including VmWare, Website Watcher, WinRAR, BeyondCompare, BB FlashBack Pro,
Camtasia Studio, SnagIt, TheBat!, and more, and is providing up to 50% off
a wide variety of shareware programs [a donation of some amount or honorary
 membership is required].

In addition to the software giveaway, DonationCoder.com is marking the
occasion by releasing new reviews, new freeware programs and major upgrades
to its most popular freeware programs like Process Tamer, Find+Run Robot,
 URL Snooper, and Screenshot Captor.

DonationCoder.com is an effort to build a community of programmers and
software aficianados, funded entirely by voluntary user donations.

Living Room / Re: Flowchart and Diagramming Review
« Last post by mouser on November 10, 2005, 06:18 AM »
i've put a link to bug tracking from the releases page, and i think it pays to add a link to it from each of the program pages.
but i don't think it makes much sense to have it on all the pages (reviews, etc).

as for the wiki - i think that would be a good candidate for having on every page, if and when we get to a point where there is some actual real content on it.  right now i'm afraid it would be a bit of a let down.

i'd also like to add a "sitemap" link to top links on every page (next to |Links|), but i'm still looking for some ideas on what a nice sitemap might look like and how to make one.
34458
i have my own semi-list of bugs+features, but what i really could use help with is collecting the bugs/requests in this forum section and entering those.  (and i recommend anyone who has a bug or feature request add it as well, now is the time).

i'll probably work on it this weekend, but i have some big features to work on so there isn't really a big rush.

If anyone belongs to any user groups, or subscribes to any mailing lists -
now would be a great time to let them know about our software, our site, our giveaway, etc.

not that you should have to but it might be useful to know that you can hit F5 from the shell (thumbnail/details) window to force it to refresh.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Resize: Quick border resets image size
« Last post by mouser on November 10, 2005, 02:04 AM »
the term "quick border" may be misleading -
it's really just meant as an alternate way to specify resize dimensions, so you really wouldnt do both preset + quickborder at same time.
34465
The new bug tracker system on the site (see "Track Bugs" button above) was  great aid in the lastest screenshot captor update, both motivationally and organizationally.

As i start work on F+R update, i was wondering if someone would be willing to collect the bugs and feature requests from this forum section and add them to the bug tracker for the Find+Run Robot Project.. It would make it easier for me to make sure i addressed them all.

Living Room / Re: Anyone know how to "escape" bb codes?
« Last post by mouser on November 10, 2005, 12:11 AM »
carol's solution is what i needed since it was characters in a hyperlink url, and so enclosing it in a code block would have disabled the url from working.

Site/Forum Features / Promo "User Bars/Banners" for DonationCoder.com
« Last post by mouser on November 10, 2005, 12:03 AM »
If you want to include a link to donationcoder.com website from your signature or from your website, i've just made a ton of them (thanks to jpfx for the 'userbar' link that inspired these).

NEW! https://www.donation...om/About/linkimages/

Screenshot - 10_11_2010 , 12_24_38 PM.png

(just click on a link to get the html code to include the image from our site and a link to our homepage; you'll have to modify it if you need bb code, or if you want to link to one of our other pages).

If you use one of these please make a post and let us know!

Screenshot Captor / Re: localization language and Chinese font problem
« Last post by mouser on November 09, 2005, 10:55 PM »
1)
We hope to have localizable versions of our software in the near future but we don't currently.

2+3)
Screenshot Captor does not support unicode fonts directly, however we have written a specific tool to allow unicode text in any application that support graphics, Unicode Text-to-Image: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=1152.0

A new version of that utility with better integration with Screenshot Captor should be out this month to make it easy to add textboxes with unicode text in any language to screenshot captor images.

In particular the "Track Bugs" link should be available from the download area.

very true, i will add this right away.

as for wiki and bugtracking button on every page - i'm still trying to figure out how much info can be tolerated on each page, and i think we are approaching the limit :)

a note:
the new bugtracker is a great motivator for me as well as a great way to keep track of bugs.
if you feel like posting a request or bug report there it would surely get implemented faster.
