just realized - im sure its not that you dont have a printer installed.

its that you dont have valid labels configured (because its having an error when you try to load a label).

try definiing your own label by entering some numbers into those values on the card stock labels page.
(you can open the avery .ini files in text editor to see some good values).

see if it gives you errors when trying to fill in values.

im guessing the slider bars are having trouble with spanish floating point values.
do you use , for decimal point?

"2,0" instead of "2.0"

?

im afraid it might cause troubles. but maybe it just means you cant use the default label templates.. i'm not sure; after you get your printer installed give me another report. if it persists ill have to replace those components to a more international friendly thing.

General Software Discussion / a new internet explorer exploit :(
« Last post by mouser on November 22, 2005, 10:02 AM »
http://www.eweek.com...WRSS03119TX1K0000594

"Exploit code for a critical flaw in fully patched versions of Microsoft Corp.'s Internet Explorer browser has been released on the Internet, putting millions of Web surfers at risk of computer hijack attacks.
The zero-day exploit, posted by a U.K.-based group called "Computer Terrorism," could allow a remote hacker to take complete control of a Windows system if the victim simply browses to a malicious Web site"

sounds bad, be careful out there.

General Software Discussion / Re: Protect Email Addresses on Web Sites
« Last post by mouser on November 22, 2005, 09:58 AM »
fantastic!

and also very important - everyone should use a tool like this if their email is going to be online.
really are bot scripts constantly running around the web collecting emails, and worse yet they now seem to email you pretending to be from the site they found you on, so protecting your email address online is very important.

i love how you generate different types which could be needed in different cases.

love the look of it too.  nice work as always ryan:

Living Room / affero - cool idea for volunteers to help support causes
« Last post by mouser on November 22, 2005, 07:29 AM »
"With Affero, discussion style forums, mailing lists, email, web logs (blogs), research, newsletters, campaigns, articles or other forms of digital works can be recognized quickly and easily through ratings, comments and donations to worthy causes."

kind of a confusing idea but basically it's a way of people who volunteer to help others can indicate what causes they support, and those who are helped can donate on their behalf.  something like that :)  pretty cool idea.

interesting, i've never thought of it but i'll certainly examine it and note its presence or lack thereof in the other tools.

keep these comments coming - very helpful.

and don't feel shy about testing out tools and giving me your thoughts.

FlipSuite and Flipbook Printer / Ideas for future versions?
« Last post by mouser on November 22, 2005, 02:54 AM »
i had two ideas:
1) allow user to make flipbooks by providing a directory or list of images (instead of a movie); could be fun just for making small booklets of pictures.
2) allow user to make flipbooks by providing a file of text lines (kine of like a book of quotes).

any comments or further ideas?

carol, it would be nice to know if the bug is in the archiving or the crc reporting.
maybe you can extract the files that report bad crcs and then compare and see if they really are damaged.

FlipSuite and Flipbook Printer / welcome boingboing and lifehacker readers :)
« Last post by mouser on November 22, 2005, 01:48 AM »
flipbook printer was mentioned on boingboing and lifehacker this week.

welcome to everyone who found us from two of our favorite sites .

boingboing is:  http://boingboing.net/
lifehacker is: http://www.lifehacker.com/

please feel free to post suggestions, comments, etc. - flipbook printer is in active development and we always take user suggestions seriously.

and of course we'd love to see any pictures of flipbooks people make.
34264
i added links on the flipbook printer page for some freeware avi movie recorders and an avi converter:
https://www.donation...okPrinter/index.html

ps. flipbook printer can actually read many mpg, divx, and other movie format  files directly - just try it.  if it fails to load then you need to convert the file to avi.

if anyone knows any free and easy subtitle tools or tools for making animated text titles and stuff for videos that could be used on videos before printing please post.
34265
and the error occurs right at startup, before you even load any movie file, is that right?

i'll test it on a computer with no printer - i suppose it could be that but the error doesnt sound like it.

ps. if anyone else gets this error let me know.

ps2. is it an english version of windows?

ps3. another thing to try, go to the CardStockTemplates/ directory and temporarily move those files out of there, to see if its not somehow an error reading one of those files.

i always tell people we try to make our reviews have something for each of 3 groups:
1) for newbies who never used such a program to learn about the category and what they do and why they might be useful.
2) for the pros who use one of these tools all the time and want to learn about a new feature or a better app.
3) for the authors of these tools, to learn how to make them better

:)

great !
this is exactly why we moved to doing two part reviews - so the reviewers would get help like this from members.
excellent find - i never knew about this tool.

thanks luckman i will be adding it to the review.

and other suggestions are very welcome, including opinions of others comparing the different apps.

the server is up now at least; try again and let me know if it still happens; if so i'll try a new server even though the current one works for me.

ps.
you can also use ANY irc client, or even the freeware program miranda, and connect to any efnet server, and then join channel #donationcoder

for more info see here: https://www.donation...ndex.php?topic=772.0

let me check the irc servers -
sometimes a particular irc server will be down and it cannot connect and i just need to switch to another.
34272
try deleting the flipbookprinter.ini file in the program directory and see if the error goes away -
or actually even better just rename it to something like flipbookprinter_old.ini so that if the error does go away you can send it to me so i can see if i can figure out what's wrong.

i will try to reproduce the error.

there are several existing tools to do this, but i also have been tempted to write such a tool..  it's a nice idea.
i don't know any freeware tools but there should be some.. i'll try to remember the names if no one else posts.

Living Room / Re: Online "generators"
« Last post by mouser on November 21, 2005, 01:11 PM »
yep that computer science paper generator is hillarious.

"generative programming" is actually a hot topic in computer science.  see http://www.amazon.co.../product/0201309777/ for example.

but its a very funny idea to make a random shareware programs.. definitely something to think about.. :)
