Living Room / Right, time to work on...o_0 a shiny penny, I WANT IT!
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on February 21, 2010, 11:42 AM »
Right, the reason behind this post is the fact I am completely fed up of going to edit a document, or work on a piece of software and then getting distracted and either don't do it, or do something less productive.

I have been working on a novel for about 5 years, and i currently only have 72 book size pages (appx 30 A4) and for the past 4 month I have had the WORST writers block ever.

Does anybody else have times like this?  If so, how do you work around it?

Love to hear your ideas of how to get motivated into working on ONE project at once, rather than 875239 different things!

Chinese schools deny links to Google attacks

Two days after a New York Times report linked two Chinese schools to hack attacks on Google and other Silicon Valley companies, both schools are denying those claims.

Security experts traced the attacks to computers at Shanghai Jiaotong University and Lanxiang Vocational School, The New York Times reported Thursday. But on Saturday...Read More...

Contest uses art to bring scientific concepts to life

Sometimes the grand ideas behind science's most important and intriguing concepts are so abstract they can be difficult to understand. One of the main goals of the International Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge, sponsored by the journal Science and the National Science Foundation, is to help bring these scientific concepts to life through stunning visualizations.

The photographs, illustrations, video, and...Read More...

Open source - the once and future dream

For some, Oracle's $5.6bn purchase of Sun Microsystems was good news for open source. After all, a mega tech vendor has acquired a hugely popular open-source database product and project: MySQL.

But at the same time, as the European Union's anti-trust probe wore on, costing Oracle's chief executive $100m a month, and...Read More...

Opera cuts cord on first open-source baby

Opera has freed its first open source project, moving code for its Dragonfly debug tool onto the popular BitBucket hosting service.

Dragonfly - a website debug tool similar to Mozilla's Firebug - was always intended as an open source project. From its inception in 2008, it carried an open source BSD license. But until this month, the code...Read More...

Microsoft finally debuts Euro-choose-a-browser screen

Toshiba outs new super-charged battery tech

The Blazing Backlash Against Buzz

Google would like you to know that it's very, very sorry that its new Buzz social network treated your social life like Procter & Gamble treats bunny rabbits. It's all a big misunderstanding. And by the way -- no one was actually harmed, no personal data was leaked, and you're the one who's confused, Google CEO Eric Schmidt said at the World Mobile Congress this week.

The big complaint about Buzz -- which started making headlines a day or so after Google rolled it out last week -- was that it could...Read More...

Word 2011's Ribbon Will Tie Mac Users in Knots

Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) was under no obligation to build a ribbon component, similar to the one premiered in Office for Windows, for the Mac. That's especially true given the fact that the menu bar is such a prominent element of the Mac user experience. Ever since System 7, the menu bar -- which remains fixed to the top of the screen -- indicates which application is active. In Windows, applications have their own menu bars, if they have...Read More...

Nanotech 'Trojan Horse' Sneaks Drugs Into Cancer Cells

Good things come in small packages, as the saying goes, and nowhere is that more true than in nanotechnology.

Research in the field has recently led to several new strategies for employing nanotechnology in the fight against cancer, and -- so far, at least -- the results are promising.

'Like a Trojan Horse'

One of the hardest parts of fighting cancer is...Read More...

There is absolutely no point of contact.

There is, but only if you dig A LOT, and actually phone their offices :P - kinda hard to get through to anybody, but the receptionist I last spoke to did put me through to one of the tech guys who solved my issue on the spot.

Not simple for anybody unknowing or unwilling to take the time to background check them in order to get contact numbers, but still, its possible all the same.

In essence, Facebook require a much more efficient means of communication, even if it was as simple as ticket-support or "[email protected]" lol

Guess, for most of Facebook, if you wanna contact them about ANYTHING, try this.........:wallbash:

Then, people who are that thick, they cant understand the need to not tell people when their house is empty, deserve to be robbed...hopefully they will steal their access to the internet, that way, we don't have to deal with them.

As Facebook scams are seemingly becoming more and more advanced, and offer new ways to fool users into joining their groups/pages in order to receive something cool, the newest one to hit Facebook is: [scam url removed by app103]

This page asks you to invite all your friends, then visit their website (where you are prompted to do things such as surveys and such).

Due to me not knowing the full extent of what they ask for, I refused to go any further into this, but I can guarantee you that these pages are FAKE and quite possibly will gain access to your accounts by means of falsifying information.

Facebook Denies Plans to Charge Users:
http://www.telegraph...-charging-plans.html

Facebook really need to get their act together and inform people of these groups, and maybe even start manually activating groups and fan pages, in order to stop these idiots from scamming people.

It's getting beyond the joke now, and for a company who make soo much money, they seem to be against actually doing anything to help their members!

I agree, as I always seem to read 1/2 a line of text, then somehow end up 14 lines down the page without realizing until the text makes no sense at all.  Maybe you could change your cursor to a large bar, rather than a pointer?  I'm pretty sure there are icons like that available.

The goal of this website is to raise some awareness on this issue and have people think about how they use services like Foursquare, Brightkite, Google Buzz etc.

Surely they could get this message across WITHOUT actually broadcasting where people are away from home?

IMHO this website should be shut down and the owner charged with intent to aid theft.

I am moving into a new home in about six months so I am starting to determine what I can get away with not moving. I have about 6-8 brand new never-been-opened C++ books. I decided to learn C++ once and for all about a year ago and bought the best I could find and then promptly decided that it wasn't worth my time.

So, I want to find them a good new home. I want them to be used by somebody who will wear out the bindings from use. And I would like your help in coming up with some ideas about how to best find them a home.

What ideas to you have?

How about running some sort of competition on DC and the winner gets them? - or maybe run an 'auction' for which, the users much donate to DC if they win, once they win and donate, they must send credits to you (to be passed into the site fund)

yep, the only real difference with free and pro is the file sizes you can upload:

Free: 200MB / file max
MediaPro: 2GB / file max

also, paying disables the few ads they have (the ads are very very minimal and i honestly didnt even know they had them until i saw, just now, must of trained myself to ignore them haha)

Well...erm...i think with thouse specs your gonna be able to do pretty much what you need to do lol, thats not a bad price at all, id pay that just for that much RAM and that gfx card in a laptop haha...the 250GB HDD and the cpu/screen are just a big bonus :P

also, on a side note, when i upgraded from XP to Win7, It was pretty smooth, very few problems (just basic driver upgrades) required.

« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on February 15, 2010, 04:55 PM »
This happened to a good friend of mine, but instead of a Magazine Subscription it was to pay a brokerage firm to arrange a personal loan.  The fee quoted was £49.95 but they had £128.50 taken from their account, when asked why, they refused to answer and upon looking into it he found that there where several forums dedicated to people who had lost money to the same firm and received no results.  The banks will not do anything if you paid via credit card, but will reverse the payment if you use Direct Debit.

www.mediafire.com ... they been around forever and they are ultra reliable, their free storage is more than sufficient for most people and they offer a paid service (cant remember the price) for those who want to do huge file uploads.

The great thing is, is it lets you share the files you have (by means of giving people the links) and also tracks how many downloads each item has had.  You can also set passwords for each download and make hidden, private or public!
