Developer's Corner / You could instead be making your own dungeon crawler game
« Last post by mouser on July 24, 2017, 10:28 PM »
From Rock, Paper, Shotgun today:

If you are reading this now, you could instead be making your own dungeon crawler. That’s the magic of DungeonScript, a fairly simple browser-based game-making tool intended for first-person dungeon crawlers. After a little studying, you could be making your own dungeon crawlers and sharing them online for us all to play.

Looks pretty cool -- I'd love to see someone here make something..

Someone has suggested to me that it might have been a mention by Kim Komando.

Just a heads up that AVG antivirus *might* be throwing false positive alerts on some valid windows 7 system files this morning, prompting people to freak out about a non-existent threat and delete valid files.

I got these alerts on one of my machines this morning and suspect it is an error.

Note: This has nothing to do with DC software, just posting it as a heads up.

In cases like this I think the simpler thing is find a utility that can change the volume of your chime wav files to be what you want.

The sourceforge link is for the second runner-up app they posted about at the end of the article.  The first 3/4 of the article is about Automatic Screenshot Captor and it links to us correctly.
3433
Timing is a bit off.. Feels to me like the latest mention must have been in an email newsletter somewhere..
3434
DC member Ballue told me about a nice writeup of Automatic Screenshotter here:

Just a heads up, long time forum member wraith808 has agreed to transition from ever-vigilant reporter of spammers into an officially sanctioned and licensed-to-kill moderator.  Spammers you have been warned.
Thank you, wraith   Go get 'em  :P

Come on now, what's the real answer!?!!
3437
I should have a new version before the end of the weekend.
3438
That's a good idea.  I can whip up a new version soon with an option for this.

There are two ways it could be done:
1. Let user specify a filename pattern on "File Saving" tab that as usual but add an option that tells AS to overwrite existing file if it already exists (instead of autonaming with counter).
2. Have an option that does file saving uniquely as it currently does but ALSO saves some generic filename ("lastcapture.png" for example) and always overwrites.

Which would be more useful?

Hammock update:

Of all the improvements I've made to my place, the hammock install has been the best.  It is a napping machine.  Love it.

Maybe one way to let user customize the chime souds without adding any gui options, is simply to let user specify sound file "Whatever.wav", but before playing the sound file, check if "Whatever_X.wav" exists and play that if it does, where X = hour number from 0-23 (or 1-24 whatever).  That way if they want they could use a different sound file for each different hour of the day.

We've gotten about 15 donations this morning so far (monday july 17, 2017) -- that can only mean that we were mentioned somewhere -- in a newsletter or on a blog or something?
Welcome to our new donors! Thank you and please make yourself at home -- we are a friendly bunch.

Now who can shed some light on where we were mentioned today (or maybe this weekend)?

With the price of hard drives my opinion these days is that the first sign of the smallest amount of trouble from a drive means the data gets migrated off it and it gets put into retirement.

That's an interesting post -- thanks for sharing.

I have been very impressed with Slack as a tool for active group discussions, but I can definitely see their points.  And I like the idea of an app for calmer more organized communication/coordination
