General Software Discussion / Re: Firefox CPU usage
« Last post by 4wd on December 22, 2012, 12:42 AM »
Palemoon 15.3.2 hits about 13% loading 6 tabs at once - I got it to hit 15% by opening 19 tabs at once, (Phenom 6 core).

Do you have hardware accelerated rendering enabled?

Options->Advanced->General->Use hardware acceleration when available

Just as a matter of interest, opening 65 tabs in Firefox 11.0 x86 on an Athlon 235e caused CPU to peak at ~50% until the tabs were loaded.

I do wish it wasn't pink though.

Don't you mean raspberry coloured? What colour should raspberry pi be?  :tellme:

Raspberries are darker than that - well the ones I've eaten anyway.

Everything would be better - let it run in the background, bring it up with a hotkey and then just start typing the name - searching would be near instantaneous.

Just create a Search Filter to restrict it to the O:\Screenshots\ directory - note the trailing \.

I thought it was all about regulatory reasons and anti trust so factories couldn't undercut indy dealers then go all Standard Oil afterward.

But if a factory has no independent dealers for its product, how can it undercut them?

New Raspberry Pi RevB arrived today, comes in a nice plastic case that has integral board and SD card holder:

This is from RS Components - I do wish it wasn't pink though.

It is already 21-12-2012 in Sydney, Australia...btw  :P

Unless the Mayans took into account the fairly recent useless phenomena of daylight saving there's still another ~25 minutes to go.

It won't open them in the background but if you go to about:config and search for browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick and change it to False, (double-click on it), then any time you middle-click a link it should open a new window.

I noticed you've watermarked your pictures/drawings on the forum.

May I bring this to your attention:

FaceBook TOS:
For content that is covered by intellectual property rights, like photos and videos (IP content), you specifically give us the following permission, subject to your privacy and application settings: you grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any IP content that you post on or in connection with Facebook (IP License). This IP License ends when you delete your IP content or your account unless your content has been shared with others, and they have not deleted it.

Like they were trying to do with InstaGrab, they can apparently sell any public picture/video you've posted on FaceBork.

If serious...wut?  You know the moon MOVES right?, so for that ENTIRE time, it would have to be moving, very fast, from side to side, to avoid visible detection...not to mention detection from space bound telescopes that are way out of the way of the moon o.0

Hey!  It's a crazy f*cked up Universe...work with me on this.

At least I didn't mention anything about its stealth capabilities.

Wrong. It's a pole shift. The world will have 1000 tsunamis all at the same time. All life will be extinguished, except for the zombies. Oh, forgot - a zombie apocalypse will start in the morning. The pole shift is at noon. Alien invasion in the late afternoon, and the rapture in the evening. :P

You're completely wrong, this morning I found the Necronomicon, (my wife had hidden it under the bed - I'll be having words with her after all this apocalypse thing is over).

So be prepared for Giant Evil Gods!

It's been hiding behind the Moon all the way in, when it's close enough to the Moon its gravitational force will pull it aside, (or it could run it down), and then it will hit the Earth 1.49 hours later.

You're going to bring up the fact that an object that size will be visible behind the Moon aren't you?

The Tardis Effect explains this anomaly: Big objects far away look smaller than small objects really close.

« Last post by 4wd on December 19, 2012, 01:13 AM »
Shouldn't be a problem, however it would pay to check whether:
a) it's completely free,
b) it's counted as part of the recipients "included" free SMS quota, (if on a plan), or
c) the recipient is charged for the SMS.
3415
On a second screen it tries to ask for your address and phone number and more.

So it can pre-fill templates with either your personal or business info - stops asking after the second run, (here anyway).

So how is the company making profit from this, is it ad based?

Depends what you mean by ad-based - the sidebar Tao is complaining about shows tips/tricks and sometimes describes how it would be done/easier in the commercial version but it doesn't download anything from the net to do it - it's all in files installed at the same time as the program.
If you let it, it will update the files when new versions become available but other than that there's no ads.

If you don't like the commercial plugging go to C:\Program Files (x86)\SoftMaker FreeOffice\inst\banners and delete the three directories.  Do the same at %APPDATA%\SoftMaker\banners.

Or edit the PNG files to remove the references to the commercial offering to retain the tips.

Or substitute your own PNG files if you want more tips/porn/whatever.

Anyways, I wanted to get it down along with some of the thoughts that were speeding through my head at the time, and wrote it up here:

http://cynic.me/2012...rom-a-burning-wreck/

I left out the grizzly parts as they're better forgotten.

Just remember, if you didn't get a copy of at least one of the dozen or so smartphone videos that were undoubtedly happening, it didn't happen.

Whatever you do don't let Uncle Sam figure out you were the superhero behind the mask. He'll make you into his chewtoy, and your hard won freedom will vanish against your new-found fame as the media nitpicks every detail about your life.

Lucky he's not in the USA then - we have Aunty Jackw here.

Your own cloud server with Owncloud on the Raspberry Pi

Set up a couple with 64GB flash drives or SSD through a USB<>SATA adapter, take them round the relatives and plug them in...you're own offsite mini cloud servers :)

Living Room / Re: Best router and configuration for VPN?
« Last post by 4wd on December 17, 2012, 01:16 AM »
Currently with the Open VPN options, my speed goes from about 1 MBps to less than 200 KBps using the Open VPN option.  That sucks.  I'm pretty sure it's a configuration or hardware thing, but I have no idea how to analyze it, so I need help.

If it's varying that much I'd be inclined to think it's congestion either at the VPNs exit server or beyond, have you tried switching exit servers, (assuming they have others) ?

Needs a new O ring (like a rubber band) for the small watertight enclosure.

I would have gone to the local bearing place, almost guaranteed they'll have something that fits.

Or give the dimensions and I'll check my stocks - if I've got one I'll send it.....free.
