"Man...That's crazy." <- that was my first reaction.
This is incredible. The whole article is writen as if it was about a real world happening. It's pretty amazing how complex these games can become.
I'm trully astonished. The whole detail of the operation and the game's completeness is incredible, this somewhat resembles a whole new dimension, as if the players of the game are actually role playing in their war scenario.
Sure is incredible how far this kind of stuff can go.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: drag window to edge automatically resizes it
« Last post by jgpaiva on September 05, 2006, 02:41 PM »
That's not a problem, my idea was to have a direct hotkey.
This would be specially useful for grids like the edge grid. you could only have a hotkey that would move the window to the center element (5), like win+c. It'd help in the sense that it'd be easier to remember which hotkey corresponds to which element, instead of just knowing it's number.

Notice that the run grid is already implemented (although i didn't make any grid demonstating it). It makes most sense if functions that act uppon windows are used. It's most interesting for stuff like remembering the position of certain windows, making them transparent, rolling up windows and such. Maybe i should make some kind of demo to show it's potential.

As for adding triggers that work with the mouse, i prefer to keep them out of gridmove. I say this, because i want it to keep revolving around the grid and it's hotkeys, since if it starts diverting to other fields, it might not be good in any of them. (take powerpro. although it has an ocean of possibilities, but only a selected few can use it because it's overly-complex)

Ok,i've made some thinking about this, and got to what i think is a good conclusion.
Having gridmove defining a bunch of hotkeys not related to moving windows to the grid or something doesn't make much sense. But it does make sense to be able to specify hotkeys for moving to specific grid elements.
So, i'll add a way to define hotkeys for moving specific grid elements, which can be "run" elements, where you can add whatever crosses your mind. What do you think about this solution? (i will also include executables for the usual stuff like minimizing, maximizing, making windows transparent, moving them to the right/left/up/down, etc).

Ok, that's what i call a neat post!
Great work, House!
You're definitelly getting some credits for this, i love the idea!

Damn, that'd be neat, a bit like what happens with browsers, right?
Does anybody know any app that does this?
(it should be quite hard to code, though)

Good point, nudone. The win+0 is a bad idea, i need to find a workaround. (currently win+0 moves the window to the tenth grid, but i guess it could be used to minimize window)

Another update (same release number). Now, the hotkeys are configurable through the tray menu option: hotkeys.
(sorry for the delay on this important option!!)

New version is up, 1.192.
This version features the possibility of changing the colour of the grid (by changing the colour of the Grids/Grid.bmp file) and all the files on the Grids folder are listed on the templates menu.

I was now thinking i need something that can make my schedule for me. But not something that will make me a full day schedule (since i tend to procastinate, i would leave the stuff that were meant to do during the morning, to the end of the afternoon). I need something where i can put the tasks i need to do, their priority and the time they take, and then, on the moment i am at home, i input it how much time i have before i have to leave (or go dinner or something), and it gives me a list of what to do.
Anyone knows any similar software?

There was a giant mistake on the .exe version (when ran for the first time), which didn't unpack the files. Updated to 1.191

General Software Discussion / Create animated gifs
« Last post by jgpaiva on September 02, 2006, 09:33 AM »
I needed to create a .gif animated file, so i googled for "gif animation". I downloaded one of the first (shareware) products and ended up with something that looked interesting. But it couldn't make decent resizes of windows, and the thumbnail animated gif came out rubish.
So,i was looking for other programs to do so, and found that the gimp can do it. I also found an interesting tutorial on how to do it.

I thought you might be interested, and i'd like to know if there are better alternatives.

(btw.. the final result is at the bottom of gridmove's page: http://jgpaiva.dcmem...rs.com/gridmove.html)

I think i'll need something that isn't mentioned in the list: A clock!
Even though the computer has a clock (and it even makes noise at every hour!!), i think i need a bigger visual information of the time, so that i won't get lost in time.

At the moment iTunes is winning and RealPlayer is coming in second:D
Damn, i think that only happens because people don't actually use QuickTime EVER!
I mean, where can you find any other player that you have to pay for to be able to play movies in full screen??

General Software Discussion / Re: PadGen: Pad file generator
« Last post by jgpaiva on September 02, 2006, 04:39 AM »
there are a few big software listing sites that don't accept pad files (fileforum/betanews, snapfiles) - personally i think that's criminally insane and incredibly annoying.
So true! Yesterday, when i was submiting GridMove to some of them, i had a huge aount of work copying stuff that was on the pad file. It definitelly is a grand idea and should be used by all software listing sites!

Also, notice that padgen is made by the same guys that do the validator you mentioned, which i believe is like the standard for pad files, so there's no need to validate it online, since padgen already does :)

General Software Discussion / PadGen: Pad file generator
« Last post by jgpaiva on September 01, 2006, 07:34 PM »
Since i was getting all the stuff i needed for making GridMove known, i needed a pad file.
Anderson (mobysaurus) found me a fantastic app: PADGen.
If you're planing to make a pad file, i definitelly recomend this app, since it's very simple to use and has all the features you need. (it even has a pad file generator and spell checking!)

Thanks Anderson!

Ok, I hate to be rational here and poo in everybody's parade, but if cody carries a coin, and we all know the approximate size of a coin, then cody's size is determined by that. I'd say palm-sized.
Damn, that's a good point!

Still, i like the idea of having a giant godzilla-sized cody walking around the donationcoder.com headquarters in illinois!  ;D

there will be normal 4:3 ratio wallpapers, wide screen 16:10 ratio and dual screen double the 4:3 size.
   Fantastic! I can't wait to see those! :D

and I'd like opinions on how big the white figures are meant to be also. please.
I suppose that is related to how big cody is, aren't this figurines supposed to be man-sized?

Man... These images are incredible!
Will you make wallpapers?
I sure would use them (they are way better than a picture of me acting silly on disneyland )!
If you do, could i suggest widescreen versions?  :-[

BTW, looks like i'm the only one who likes cody bigger. Only because it makes people understand that the main mascot is cody and not the men on the image. Still, i go for knee high, since he's on my sign using a computer. I do think he's looking a bit short on the second picture, though.

the help file is extremely well done and it's good to see some more hotkeys added to the program.
Cool, i'm glad to know i could transmit the knowledge in a correct way.

can I just make a quick suggestion - I love the idea of hotkeys for minimising and restoring windows (I've had autohotkey scripts do this in the past) but can you please change the way the '0' is used to minimise a window. the problem is that there is rather a long pause after the '0' is pressed and the minimise function takes place. I'd be really grateful if you could change the hotkey so that it worked instantly - otherwise it's actually quicker for me to take my hand off the keyboard and use the mouse.
Yep, i've also noticed that, it isn't handy at all. i think it might be better to have 'm' to minimize and 'M' to maximize. Although, 'M' forces the use for another extra modifier (shift). Do you think other key should be used?

I can, of course, just continue to use the autohotkey script that I use for minimising windows instead.
