Site/Forum Features / Re: new feature when making a post
« Last post by mouser on December 25, 2005, 10:34 PM »
if anyone wants me to add some text entries for useful text or links that they find themselves using repeatedly, or which they think others might find useful, post a reply here to suggest it.

ps. i added this feature because i was always posting links from other sites and being too lazy to include a full link back to that site; this should help solve that problem.

Site/Forum Features / new feature when making a post: "add text.." box
« Last post by mouser on December 25, 2005, 10:33 PM »
I've added a new drop down box available when you make a post with some common text+links that people might want to add to their posts, to make it easier to do so.. useful for linking back to common sites (ie it's easy to add the following links now by just selecting from the dropdown box):

[link from shellcity.net]
[link from slashdot.org]
[link from fileforum/betanews]
[link from freeware world team]
[link from lifehacker]
[link from boingboing]
[link from coding horror]

UrlSnooper / Re: WinPcap makes my DSL not work?
« Last post by mouser on December 25, 2005, 08:27 PM »
yeah, it seems it would solve your problem.   if that test program works then a version of url snooper which used that driver would work.

sorry i wasn't clearer.
dont install urlsnooper - this has nothing to do with that - it's just a test program.

just click open and surf around the internet and see if this program shows any activity.

the only purpose of running this is to see whether this tool can monitor your internet traffic.

The most impressive people I know are all terrible procrastinators. So could it be that procrastination isn't always bad?...

lol,

can you download and try to run this app after you have fixed your computer again:
http://www.microolap.../pssdk/ltmonitor.zip

it uses an alternative network drive that does not install anything.  let me know if it works.
i've been considering for a while whether to add support for this alternative network sniffing driver, so i'm interested in hearing whether it works.  if so, perhaps i will try to add support for it.

this isn't quite on topic but it's still cool:
http://www.polyglot3000.com/

Polyglot 3000 is an automatic language identifier that quickly recognizes the language of any text, phrase or even single words. It is available for Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP.

free.

hi lol -

i guess its possible that winpcap could be doing this.  certianly url snooper by itself wouldn't but it's possible that something in the winpcap install is causing it.

if you feel up to it what would be nice is if you could install the very latest winpcap alpha release here:
http://www.winpcap.o.../install/default.htm

direct download is: http://www.winpcap.o...nPcap_3_2_alpha1.exe

after you install, reboot once or twice and see if your network connection is still working.
if not, then we know its a winpcap problem and maybe the bug or announcement archives or faq for winpcap can help (see http://www.winpcap.org/contact.htm).

if your connection still works after installing the latest winpcap, then you should install url snooper after than but SKIP the winpcap part of the url snooper install when it gets to it (since you would already have a more recent version of winpcap installed at that point).

btw winpcap has a good uninstaller so you should be able to just uninstall it if it does happen to mess up your internet connection, rather than having to do a system restore.

I honestly never dared to hope that this site would become so full of such nice and interesting people so quickly.  To me it's been the most wonderful surprise.  It's made programming so much more enjoyable for me, and it's made me feel like I have a second home here.

I'm wishing all of you friends a happy holiday and a great new year.  I'm so very grateful to all of you for making this place what it is.

What can we do except look back at the past year and try to see if we can't make this next upcoming year even better, with new reviews, new software, more giveaways, more discounts, and more great conversations  :)

But for now everyone get some rest.

that's an interesting idea - actually you might take it a bit further and say it would be nice to have a program that opened (or moved right after they open) windows to a blank location on the deskop when possible so as to avoid overlap of windows when they open.. does such an app exist yet?

i know there are some shareware apps that readjust and resize windows on command to fit on the desktop, inspired by a mac feature. can't remember what it's called.

might be nice to have an automatic one though.

i'm sure a free program to make this exists but i don't know of any off hand - i'm looking forward to a reply from someone who does.

omg i just realized something.. is Microsoft just an organization set up by aliens from space to prepare us for an eventual overthrow and colonization by an alien species of blue+green gelatinous creatures?!?!

think about it people, look at microsoft messenger, it's clearly the communication device we are being trained to use to receive our daily orders.  the whole monopoly thing is to get us used to accepting all of our needs from our new overlords.

think about it people..

MicroSOFT = the gelatinous nature of the creatures.
Bill GATES = a clue that they will be arriving from some interdimensional time+space gate

very interesting find..

i should say that there are other folder renamers that will do what you want also im sure..
im still interested in a generic text-editor based renamer, so i may write something anyway.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: clipboard enhancements
« Last post by mouser on December 24, 2005, 11:05 AM »
assuming we are talking about clipboard help+spell, you can do it even easier than you say :)
1) select the text from any app
2) hit ctrl+alt+v (or whatever chs shortcut you have set in the capture tab).  the will capture the text, launch chs and show it with spelling errors underlined.
3) press spellcheck button (maybe i should have an option to have this trigger automatically?), and do your spellcheck.
4) now press the icon that looks like a clipboard with an arrow leaving it to the right, that will copy the spellchecked text back over your original text.

you can use the same process for doing quick formatting of your text, not just spellcheck.
