This one doesnt fully fit the bill, but I couldnt resist:

"Five honours** and a 175,
got my education and a license to drive"

The Alsatians - Five honours and a 175
not sure what year - late 70's, early 80's

** 'Honours' are the Irish equivalent of (I think) somewhere between successful 'O' and 'A' levels in Britian. (No idea how they relate to US)

Screenshot Captor / Re: Using Arrow keys when selecting an area
« Last post by tomos on September 03, 2014, 01:01 PM »
Not when making the screenshot, but after opening the screenshot in the main window, you can select an area within the screenshot, and then use the arrow keys to adjust the selection:

  • hold the mouse near each edge of the selection
  • check the box showing enlargement of area around the mouse (see arrow in screenshot below)
  • use arrowkeys with qualifier keys - here's where my tutorial is weak: different qualifier keys (Alt, Shift, Control) affect different sides of the selection and I can never remember which is which, so I simply try them out - if they work good (if not be sure to reverse the action as you may have just adjusted the other side of the selection).

Not something I use, so cannot recommend anything -
but it's called a Gantt chartw (may help you finding something).

[edit] ... on second thoughts it is different to the Gantt chart :-\

InfoQube's calendar works like in your screenshot - but even though it's free in beta, it's definitely not freeware.[/edit]

« Last post by tomos on September 01, 2014, 10:24 AM »
In her most recent "Patch Watch" column in Windows Secrets Newsletter, Susan Bradley advises holding off on installing KB2993651 for a while.  Any time she offers such advice, I take it.  An "Important" update is not nearly as pressing as one that is "Critical."

thanks cyberdiva, think I'll follow your example / Bradley's advice.

Re the new/replacement update KB2993651:

I suppose that, as a "security update for kernel-mode drivers", it's a fairly important update :-\

I havent installed it yet...
(thankfully I didnt have the other older updates installed either.)

I've used wiznote for collaboration, and it worked out really well.  My only complaints were superficial gui issues.  i don't know about the rtf feature you want though.

If I were you, I'd start with Wiznote, then look at others.

Post New Requests Here / Re: Finding the path of a file on your computer
« Last post by tomos on August 31, 2014, 10:52 AM »
A tray utility that showed RECENT files and RECENT folders when clicked would solve this and be a nice coding snack..

aka FARR from your good self ;-)

I'm pretty sure this works out of the box:
  • Launch FARR (Pause button is default)
  • type mru to show options related to recent files - I usally use mrua (once the files show, hit pagedown button if you want to see a longer list)
  • select relevant entry (with mouse, or use the down arrow) and hit Ctrl+C to copy the filepath

Should we be saying 'our pets the peeves' maybe ? :tellme:
or what?

S/B - ...just how many of these pets do you have? There must be hundreds. ;)

Okay, I got that - but presumed you were slagging some fault in Ren's post :-\
hang on,
I should read the whole thread, shouldn't I :-[ :-[ :-[

Seems like Bitcoin [Bitmonero/Monero] (and [possibly] other) mining is artificially crippled so the miner devs make higher profits:

Living Room / Re: Interesting response to a request for "work for free"
« Last post by tomos on August 28, 2014, 06:25 AM »
This article is a good read for anybody who is freelancing or running their own business. Although it involves a designer, this same sort of solicitation often crops up with coders and other technical professionals.
his work is lovely too :-*

another quote from BuzzFeed:
In response, a spokesperson for Showtime told BuzzFeed:

Showtime is a strong supporter of artists around the world. This contest, like many others, is entirely optional. Under the contest guidelines, those who choose to submit their art are eligible for a grand prize of a Las Vegas trip, in addition to invaluable national exposure across multiple platforms.

However, Cassaro is unimpressed.

He told BuzzFeed: “The whole thing is just unethical. You would never cold call a bunch of licensed electricians and ask them to do the lighting for an event like this for free. You certainly wouldn’t ask them to hashtag their ‘submission’ on Twitter to drive traffic to your website.

He added: “To call it a contest is a bit insulting. A contest is guessing how many jellybeans are in the jar so you can win all the jellybeans. … To participate in a contest like this as a working professional devalues the work of everyone.”
(my emphasis)

I've recently encountered this a lot while trying to download/play Ludum Dare 30 games, but having the downloads blocked by Chrome with seemingly no way to keep them anyway.

I'm glad I never fully went down the Chrome road

Well, it's over at last and she didn't make it through. :( It was a pretty tense finale, they were the last to find out their verdict, and it was chosen by the judges. The way they structure the show is just so stressful... Anyway, she got really far and did great, I'm very proud of her. Thanks once again to all of you who watched, voted, and read about this little moment in my life. :)

Sorry to hear that :-(
But well done to her, and I hope she continues down that road :-*

Glaswegian is...not exactly what one would classify as "lovely".......... ;D

Beyond Scottish, I wasn't sure where exactly it was - I'll stick by my 'lovely' classification though - no matter what people think :p
I like a good strong characterful accent (there's lots of them in England too).
