nice entertaining and useful reads.

definitely bookmarking the site and looking forward to future posts.  nice find.

right, gotcha.

good poins.
0) yes i will make it close after sending the text back, that makes complete sense.
1) i will try; i know i already do something like this to try to guess whether to initiate a ctrl+c or not; it should be possible to add an option to try to smartly do a select all and then ctrl+c when appropriate.
2) ill look into that -  do i understand that you're basically pointing out a user interface annoyance/baddesign or is there something deeper i'm missing?
3) ill fix this to do focus shifting and then auto closing - makes sense to me.

welcome Jimdoria! (great first post by the way!)

ps.
i too am a fan of the pc mag utils, and a great hater of their system of having to pay a yearly fee to be able to continue to download them, even the old ones (even if it's not expensive, that just seems wrong).

it does sound to me like a neat idea in theory.  to my ears much more practical than the 3d desktop ideas.

i can't answer the microed question, but i thought it might be useful in this thread to point out that Jibz has written an extremely cool little plugin for thebat called PIPER, that lets you shell out and execute any commandline program and capture its output to feed back into a message:

(as usual if you use it please send jibz a little donation to support his work)

yes, we submit all software to a bunch of sites (mostly those that accept "pad" files).
a pad file is an xml file used to describe shareware and freeware.

many of these sites exchange pad files so it propagates around.

one interesting thing to look for is whether a site uses the description and screenshot from the pad file or makes their own.  some of these sites actually have people that try the programs and write their own summary and picture (for example see downloadsquad above), most just display the pad info.

coen99, if you don't mind entering your requests (one request each entry) in the bugtracker (see button at tom), it REALLY helps me keep track of them, and garantees i will not forget them.

all 3 you have requested are planned for v3.

process tamer 3 is in the queue but right now it's behind find+run robot 2, which i've committed to release by our 1 year anniversary around mid march.

so expect PT3 either middle march if i get very ambitious and lucky, or middle-late april more likely.

however, i am happy to release more intermediate updates before then, so minor feature requests are welcome.

fun tutorial stefan.

by the way i want to say thanks to stefan as well for this great idea.  it's really a thrill when a good idea posted by someone on this forum can turn into the butterfly of a good program, all before our eyes

sounds good to me, i don't mind having a score based on recency and on frequency.
makes sense, both are easy.
in fact i think nontroppo has been arguing for a frequency based scoring for a while, and has been very patient.
i think i better start seriously working on FARR 2 again in the next week while all these ideas are still fresh.

thanks to joto for alerting me to the fact that the autoit vs. autohotkey link was broken.  fixed now.

« Last post by mouser on January 31, 2006, 11:43 PM »
WYHI = wear your hat inside.

habbit i seem to have picked up from my dad.

note: i don't mean wearing your hat when you go over to someone's house or a restaurant, i mean when you wear a hat just while hanging out alone in your own house/apartment.

who else is with me in this club?

fSekrit / If you like fSekrit..
« Last post by mouser on January 31, 2006, 09:49 PM »
a key to the success of this site will be if we can all agree to donate to authors on this site who make software we like.  in doing so we will all benefit.

on the fsekrit page you will see that you can make a donation directly to f0dder or buy him a programming book through amazon as a sign of your appreciation.

so if you like the program, visit the fSekrit page and send f0dder a couple of bucks or a book (see links in left sidebar) to say thank you and encourage him to keep up the great work.

thanks f0dder for sharing this program with all of us - i love it

Find And Run Robot / Re: All these F+R ideas are wonderful
« Last post by mouser on January 31, 2006, 09:42 PM »
i have a big launch bar on my desk and use FARR.
for me i use a launch bar as a kind of "visual memory"
it's like a menu for me, it helps me remember the programs i have available that i use alot.

i guess it depends on how good your memory is :)

in cognitive science there are concepts of "recall" vs. "recognition"; if you can recall what you want to launch you can use farr, but if you need a visual image to remind you what apps are available, then a launchbar can help you :)
