General Software Discussion / Re: MilesAheadSoftware source only future?
« Last post by wraith808 on December 07, 2015, 10:27 AM »
Perhaps you could talk with mouser about hosting it on a user page?
3302
Now I see to my utter astonishment that MK has written a further post apparently referring to and countering my post in this DC forum, entitled Taking note: Is OneNote Your 21st-Century Zettelkasten Pim?

I don't get it.  First you say that's not quite it, and then you link the same post as a reply.  Meh?
3303
I don't see a case as to why "Zettelkasten should probably be its own thread" - at least not on the DC forum. It would be an absolute yawn, since, in terms of a being a PIM, it is an archaic tool, and I would not have been interested in it per se.

I think he meant the process/platform, not the tool.
3304
I still don't get why he doesn't have the "permissions to post a thread."  That was why I didn't heed it and reported it as someone spamming the PM system.  They could easily have contacted mouser if that was the case, and he is more prevalent on the boards than any members.

One thing I'd add to Dr Andus' comments, is that you do have to be careful to not confuse the tool with the task (which, I believe, is the main point of Christian's article). I was considering ConnectedText, until I started using a plaintext approach (due to the article).

Then I realized that my major problem was that I had no idea how to split my notes/thoughts. I could spend tons of money on a tool and still use it poorly. Now that I've gotten better at the mechanics involved, I'm going back and reviewing tools (including ConnectedText, I was not trying to criticize it above!) to see what they can add and how they make things easier for my requirements.

This is a very salient lesson for many things that we seek to solve with software.  Process first, then you can more adequately find the right software for the job, IMO.

DC Website Help and Extras / Re: Continued software development?
« Last post by wraith808 on December 04, 2015, 05:36 PM »
You're liable to run into the same problems that the person that did it on DC did in the long run.

No released license assumes closed source.

some more information:

Of course, the interpretation is going to be left to the particular judge, the particular courtroom, and the particular day (I'm not kidding), but if you've gotten that far, you're most likely already screwed.

I'm still not getting why, if Stoic Joker's research is not correct on the software, you don't just post the link to the software and the name?  We're not going to judge you based on that fact, and it would help us to help you, since you're coming to us asking the question?  We'd be able to give you academic answers based on the facts of the software in question, rather than generalities that may be right or wrong?  That's the only reason I'm asking.

Everything that everyone has told you so far is correct... in certain situations.  But, they are not correct in all situations, and may not even apply to you.  Asking questions, especially on software rights and such is the right thing to do, and should IMO have no reflection on you that you're asking the questions.  Unless these questions come into play after the software in question is created.  We've had experience with that on DC, and it's not exactly something that I'd like to repeat, as it was an ugly scene, that divided a lot of people on the question.

Thanks for sharing that!  It's so cool!  The part that was the best to me was watching the faces of the musicians as they first played it.

I wonder about the weight?  And the finishing?  And the durability over time?

All of these arguments are theoretical, and not necessarily based on your current situation.  I've noted that the software in question isn't mentioned anywhere.  Is there a reason for this?  If you could post what the software is, where the site to get it is, etc., we could possible give more concrete answers based on facts, rather than assumptions.

Has anyone been arrested for assault for beating someone to a conclusion?

Maybe not assault, but perhaps for peppering them with puns?

Anything is easy to crack when you have the specimen in your custody.  People talk about SERE and torture resistance... but all macho-ness aside, everyone cracks.  It's just a matter of when, not if.

Any competent secret agent would have a dummy password that gave access to disinformation and sent a silent electronic warning in communication uses. A password would always be required in addition to their face. Any such person wouldn't last long if they couldn't convince the other person that it was the real password.

Do you think they let you go after they get what they want?  You'd assume that there was a way out of this other than a lot of pain ending in a pine box (if you're lucky).  They get the information and then hold you alive until they verify it.  Then they kill you.  The best defense as an intelligence operative is not to get caught.  You might warn someone, but that someone isn't coming after you this side of a movie.

Imagine though if Snowden had biometrics set up on his laptop when he got to Russia. It would have taken huge self-control for the FSB not to grab him by the neck and push his face to the camera... Biometrics is the easiest thing to crack when you have the biological specimen in your custody...

I can confirm the CPU-Z disappearance, as it pulled mine ... However it did stop and tell me what it was doing when it did it.

What exactly did it tell you?  I'm trying to see Microsoft's reasoning... and I just don't get it.

^have you heard her intro to "Someone Like You" at her Live at Royal Albert Hall concert?

love her -- her down-to-earth-ness, and her voice, and the songs...

In many ways, even more amazing is Jack Vidgen.

We'll start with Adele:

And end with Whitney:

And add in Jennifer Holiday, just for grins:

I'm not totally sure I understand what you're saying, but I can give a stab and you can let me know.  (This is for iOS)

On your iDevice, Open the settings app, and scroll down to messages (or facetime to use it for that).  Click on that, and then scroll down to Send & Receive.  Click on that, and click add e-mail.  Note that on iOS, you can only add e-mails.  There's a way around it for some carriers.

To derive the e-mail address, use the first part of the e-mail address as the your cell phone number you want to add, and following the "@" symbol, you type the carrier's domain name. For example, texts to AT&T customers should be sent to "txt.att.net" – so if you have service with AT&T and your cell phone number is 1-222-222-2222, you would use the e-mail address "[email protected]".

All of this is only theory- I've not done it.  But, I do use my e-mail on my device in this manner, and it works.  So I'd think it would.

The last line of your OP is the reason I think that I might be barking up the wrong tree, but I figured I'd post it just in case I wasn't.

HTH!

Nice collection. Too bad one can not just download them all in a zip (to save time) without purchasing a pro account.

Up until now, I never realized that was a pro account feature... I guess because the people I download from have a pro account.

TL;DR - The Paris terrorists communicated in the clear.  It was how they were stopped in Belgium, and could have been stopped in Paris.

The significance of this?  It's in direct contradiction to the earlier reports:
