Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: BatchFTP
« Last post by mouser on February 11, 2006, 04:34 PM »
brilliant.

as you say:
BatchFTP is built around the idea that you're going to upload the same files more than once and it is streamlined to support this ideology.
it seems if one has this kind of scenario this might be the perfect tool.
(i might have to buy this myself).

my eyes feel like they are bleeding by the time i go to sleep - that's what you get from 10yr old crts that need their brightness turned up to 100.

but on the other hand, how else would i know when to go to sleep if it weren't for my eyes stopping to work?

f0dder!!!!!
damn it you better put internet high on priority list.  after all, what's more important, food or internet?

i could probably add this to process tamer without much trouble.
32959
when a new program is posted in a category thread we could add it to the first post in the thread so that the first thread would be a list off all the programs so far nominated..

there are no doubt advantages to a nicely organized and maintained section, but the overhead in maintaining it is hard, and there is some benefit to just letting people post their opinions - no need to deal with nominating, etc.

maybe this is something well suited for the wiki?

im not sure why anyone would have a use for it, but if so:
https://www.donation...nloads/MiniFlash.zip

I did forget to mention the main reason it was made, in addition to wanting to avoid the titlebar and menu of the flash player, is that the macromedia flash player is incapable of accepting commandline arguments, which this little tool can do.

//---------------------------------------------------------------------------
MiniFlash.exe - Mini Flash Player
Version 1.00.01 / Jan 24, 2006
[email protected]

Designed to show a flash movie in a minimal window of a specific size, with
specific title, and launched with flash variable arguements.  This last part
is key, since the normal flash player from macromedia doesn't seem to be
 able to set variables.
//---------------------------------------------------------------------------

//---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Usage:
MiniFlash.exe fullfilename argstring width height scalemode "title caption"

   for example:
    MiniFlash.exe "c:\myflashfile.swf" "arg1=1&arg2=2" 640 480 0 "my flash!"

scalemode is from macromedia and should be a number as follows:
    0 - ShowAll, 1 - NoBorder, 2 - ExtractFit, 3 - NoScale, 4- Low
    5 - AutoLow, 6 - AutoHight, 7 - Hight, 8 - Best, 9 - AutoMedium
    10 - Medium

the common scalemodes are 0 for normal display that preserves aspect ratio
and 2 for fit to window and stretch (aspect ratio not preserved)

i really am glad to hear that it's useful :)
32963
ram might be more interesting to look at - my experience is that cpu useage is very often just one or 2 programs using the cpu, and everything else < 1%, but as brotherS if you averaged it over some period it might be interesting.
32964
i kind of like this idea..
but i think a few modifications might be in order..
what if we had a child board of the reviews or mini reviews section, entitled "What's the Best Software to do this task"
something like that.

in that section, each thread would be titled like "What's the Best .. Data Recovery Utility"

in that thread people would post their opinions of what is best.

a new in that thread post about a new program would include screenshot, short description, link to website, price.

other posts can be from people agreeing or disagreeing and saying why, or adding their choice of best.

i think that while voting is fun, in this case i think it might not be all that useful and would be to inviting for abuse.
i'm actually not a huge fan of rating sites, i just feel like its begging for someone to manipulate the scores by creating multiple accounts - i much prefer to rely on people actually posting replies with their views as comments.

it would also be harder to maintain accurate voting lists, etc.

this way, its still a good way to look for opinions on each category, and we can also link to other posts on the forum about the different programs.

opinions?

« Last post by mouser on February 10, 2006, 06:39 PM »
hehehe, i wondered if anyone would catch that.

miniflash is a tiny captionless flash player wrapper, whose only purpose is to allow you to launch a flash movie at a specific size with a custom caption in the minimalist titlebar, and then capture it with minicap and then close it.  it was written by request from someone who needs it for that purpose.

« Last post by mouser on February 10, 2006, 04:13 PM »
what i want to know is, why do people find it impossible to follow my guideliness just because my instructions are totally wrong?
can't you people figure out what i mean to type instead of listening to what i actually say  !!

in other words - i goofed up!!  :-[

i posted the dictionary page for the OLD VERSION of the spellchecker, not the new version!

The PROPER download page for dictionaries are here:

there you will download a .zip for the language of your choice.

extract the .adm file from inside the zip, and put it into the Clipboard Help+Spell\Dictionaries directory.

then exit and restart clipboard help and spell (make sure you exit and not just minimize to tray) and it will automatically detect any new dictionaries.

Dr.Windows / Re: Can someone help
« Last post by mouser on February 10, 2006, 01:04 PM »
the easiest way is, go to the drwindows subdirectory called Dialogs.

usually in C:\Program Files\DrWidows\Dialogs

there you will find tons of .cfg files.

each one is a plain text file describing a dialog.

just open them in a text editor like notepad, modify them and save them with a new filename ending in .cfg, and that's all you have to do.

you can test then from the drwindows options page.

ah ok, now that makes more sense - you want antialias with some objects and not others..
would you mind adding that to the bugtracker so i wont forget to try to implement it?

General Software Discussion / Re: Best Executable Compressor Programs
« Last post by mouser on February 10, 2006, 11:18 AM »
my impression is people prefer having the smaller executables, and that it can actually be faster to load from disk.
if people prefer non-compressed i could go back to that.
