Developer's Corner / Re: The fear of change
« Last post by mouser on February 19, 2006, 03:15 PM »
i agree with most of what you've said -
and i definitely think there are a class of people who revel in saying there language is the "one true language" and all others are horrible.

personally i am still resisting .net.

it has some stuff i really like but until it is officially and fully endorsed as a long term cross platform solution i am avoiding it.  i don't need to waste time on something that is not robustly cross platform, and i dont know how well mono is going to be supported into the future.

as a 20yr c/c++ programming i have to tell you my feelings about the language are profoundly conflicted.  i am attached and fond of the syntax and style but also find it increasingly distasteful and full of legacy evilness.

however i've not found a competing language i liked any better.

im still in search of a better language/development platform.
i've had my dreams of making my own, but that way lies madness i know.

Mircryption / mircryption works fine with mirc 6.17
« Last post by mouser on February 19, 2006, 11:15 AM »
just a report that mirc 6.17 and mircryption work fine together,
no need to do anything special, just install new mirc over old and leave default options to keep all your settings.

just wanted to add a note:

the $ under people's names is for people to make small donations to a user if they appreicate their help.

if you don't want to set up a paypal account or something like that, feel free to add a non-paypal link to your favorite charity or something, so people who want to express their thanks can make a donation in your honor.

i'm not that good at figuring how to download stuff even when you have the url; some sites are tricky, some use technology that can be very hard to record.

there are some people here who can often help: http://p084.ezboard.com/bstreemeboxvcr

What's the Best? / Re: Section's Opening post
« Last post by mouser on February 18, 2006, 01:56 PM »
thanks for agreeing to help this section get going, and thanks to luckman212, hopefully he will agree to help mod this section.
i think this section is a fantastic way for people to quickly locate the relevant posts on the forum relating to the search for the best tool for a given task.

i'd like to suggest some threads with links to some of the existing reviews and minireviews.

ie, "what's the best tray tool", "what's the best adressbooks", "whats the best text editor"

and just start out by pointing to the existing threads on in the mini review section.. would help people locate the reviews of interest to them.

funny new british sitcom about some computer geeks.  all episodes are legally available on bittorrent to watch.

for those of you who have been curious about bittorrent, now might be the time to get your beaks wet, as cody our bird mascot might say if he hadn't escaped.

sorry the server is slowing down today - we still haven't mastered how to send out 18,000 emails and not have the server turn into a turtle trapped in a molasses swamp in slow motion.

Screenshot Captor / Re: McAfee Antispyware flags "keyhook.dll"
« Last post by mouser on February 16, 2006, 07:39 PM »
ps.
i've confirmed that the latest mcaffee update does flag the file as a "possibly unwanted file"
at least it doesn't assert that it knows it's a virus, so i take back my hatred of mcafee.

i have however, updated a new version of screenshot captor with the dll's packed so as to avoid the message.

thanks for alerting me to the problem cvbusa!

actually it's a nice idea to have a good start menu tweaker tool.. but it would have to be done carefullly; messing up someone's start menu would really be a disaster.

ugh.. frustrating.  definitely a false alarm.

there was another post about this same issue, but it wasnt as popular an antivirus so i just ignored the issue (https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=2110.0)

can you do me a favor and try to rename the file and see if it is still mad at it even with a different name.

i'm really getting sick of these false positives.. i can only imagine how many people it has scared off.
