General Software Discussion / Re: Automatic Archiving?
« Last post by skwire on May 08, 2011, 02:18 PM »
Something that I could specify to archive files in a directory 30 days after they were last created/modified would be great.

Which datestamp would you like me to use?  The created or the last modified?

v1.0.8 - 2011-05-08
+ Added "Copy with header" option to the context menu.
    * Restricted which controls show the context menu.  (Thanks, ewemoa)

It seems that the first popup menu item "Copy" leads to copying individual "chunks" of information (so "59%", but not "Humidity:") close to beneath where the pointer was when the popup menu was invoked.  Does this interpretation seem close?

FWIW, the popup menu seems to appear when right-clicking in the area where the 5 buttons are as well as in the status bar.  Is this behavior intentional?  At least with respect to the "Copy" menu item?

I think the above build addresses both concerns.   ;)

What language do you program your apps in?  I've written some programs, but mostly with command line or html interfaces.

All of my applications are written in AutoHotkey.

Yes, I understand it's indeterminate.  That's why I use one of the two examples I listed above.  Neither one is a finite type of notification.  All it serves to do is give the user some notice that the application is "doing something" even if that something is waiting on data.

I like to use the status bar area for this sort of thing with either a progress bar or looped bit of animated text:

I assume the podcasts are MP3 or some other lossy (compressed) format.  If so, you do realise that you're not going to save hardly any space at all by compressing those files, right?

This would actually be a piece of cake to write as a Coding Snack if you can't find anything already out there.

I was thinking it might be a bit clearer if there were some border around the buttons or if the buttons were displayed more like a vanilla toolbar (though may be there's some downside to that?).

When I first added them, I tried using the toolbar library but I could not get it displaying properly in a vertical configuration like that.  I then tried it with regular button controls but I didn't like the way it looked (though it worked fine).  Finally, I went with just the glyphs but I did add the status bar text when you hover over them in an attempt to clarify what they do.  At any rate, what are your thoughts on this:

Great program!  I donated $5 to you via paypal from your dcmembers link.

Thanks very much.   :D

1. Is it possible to highlight currently active timers?  I have 20 timers each preset to a specific task, but not all of them are running.  It would be nice to have a color highlight timers that are currently running so I know what tasks are "cooking".
2. Is it possible to make the times editable from the main menu, instead of having to click the hammer and wrench icon?

1. Sure.  Did you have anything in mind?
2. Sure, it's possible, but I think it would further clutter what is already a very cluttered interface.  I'd prefer to keep it the way it is.

Thanks again!  This app has already helped me a lot in keeping track of tasks.

You're welcome.  Thanks for the feedback.

Seems like it was a good bet as that worked here.

Is that good enough for your purposes?  (Honest question...I'm not trying to be a cheeky bastard  :D

Without looking, I'm going to bet that providing the full path to the video file will make it work how you'd like.

Hmmmm...it's not clear what you're asking for.  Are you asking if there is a file renamer application out there that keeps a log of its changes?  If not, please provide more details (and examples if pertinent).

When the sky turns dark Black/Green and you can touch it.
Or you see the low black wall of clouds coming....

Roger that; personally witnessing a wall cloud near you is a surreal experience.  Which part of Arkansas?  I live in Conway.

Coding Snacks / Re: Windows Reorganizer
« Last post by skwire on April 23, 2011, 04:23 PM »
I probably misunderstood your first post.  Currently the application scans the source folder and, if it finds a file that is a) not hidden or b) not a system file or c) not a .LNK file, it does the following:

1) Gets the file's creation date.
2) Creates a folder structure under your specified destination folder using the creation date elements (year, month & day).
3) Moves the file into that folder.
4) Creates a shortcut in the original file location pointing to the newly moved file.

So, a file named c:\source\myfile.txt with a creation date of February 22, 2010 would be moved into the following:

c:\destination\2010\02\22\myfile.txt

A shortcut would then be created as c:\source\myfile.txt.lnk that pointed to the moved file.  Is this not what you wanted?

Files that are marked as hidden or as system files are skipped.  LNK files are skipped as well.

I realise that English is not your native language and I really appreciate you using it in your posts.  However, I'm having a hard time determining if the application has worked how you wanted or not.  Can you please let me know?  Thanks.
