Find And Run Robot / Re: Num Lock
« Last post by mouser on March 08, 2006, 06:38 PM »
ah good idea - right now it uses arrow keys to navigate but i can see some people wanting to use keypad for launching no matter what.

so is that what you are asking for - even when numlock is not toggled, you want pressing the 2 to always launch result#2?

the freeze for a couple of seconds thing may be a bug regarding searching networked files..
do you guys with the slowdown have a lan?

if you go into search directories and Uncheck the "Recent Documents" directory, does it solve the problem?

General Software Discussion / Re: Driver backup
« Last post by mouser on March 07, 2006, 04:14 PM »
the best thing would be if you can make a drive image of your current drive so you can go back and get files or examine stuff after the fact.

all i can tell you is that you'll feel so much cleaner when you reinstall and youll be so happy when you actually have a new install.

i need to add some stuff to the scrolling windows capture code to make it easier to abort, and easier to detect failures in scrolling.
it does sound like if there were two instances that one was left running.

two things can confuse screenshot captor and minicap with scrolling window capture:
1) animated gifs can sometimes confuse it
2) if you are in an edit box when you trigger the scrolling windows capture

very nice idea - i will add it for next release.

this is absolutely coming -
we've discussed the concept of modifiers before as well, so you will be able to define types of searches and restrict results to certain extensions and subdirectories easily using a search pattern.

like

dylan +mp3 +mydocs

would say search for files with "dylan" in their name with modifiers "+mp3" and "+mydocs"; +mp3 modifier might say to find only files with extensions .mp3 and .pls, and +mydocs would specify certain directories to search in.

i've played dzwords with my family before and really enjoyed - sort of scrabble with some options,
and good multiplayer support with chat functionality.  well done and cheap ($20):

it's available to play on a bunch of sites, here's one:  http://www.elizium.nu/scripts/lemmings/

(if you type 'play lemmings' in google youll find more, but they should all be the same script)

Rose Surprise is a romantic table firework filled with fragrant rose petals.

also check out the puzzle alarm clock:
This is the alarm clock which is guaranteed to wake you up! Nobody sleeps through this! It wakes you up by firing four puzzle pieces up in the air, and then it is your task to get the pieces and put them back in the alarm clock - it won't turn off until then.

Living Room / firefox made 72 million dollars from click ads last year
« Last post by mouser on March 06, 2006, 06:14 PM »
http://www.calacanis...ation-made-72m-last/

The best piece of information I got out of BarCampLA was that Firefox, which is produced by the for-profit Mozilla Corporation, made $72M last year and is on target to have 120 employees this year. I have no idea if this is true (anyone?), but it makes sense. I mean, there have to be 72M people using Firefox out there, and making $1 a year seems low to me! Mark Pincus brought this topic up recently.

Mozilla Corporation makes all that money because of the Google Search box on the top right. If you search with that box (which I do all day long) and you click on the Google ads on the results page Firefox gets ~80% of that. They also have Amazon in the search box, and other services that I'm sure kick them back some affiliate fees. Brilliant.

What an amazing business: make a kick-ass browser for $10-15M a year in expense and make $72M (and growing) in revenue. It's such a good business that the folks at Flock.com are trying to do a similar thing by building a wrapper with value-added services (like bookmarking tools) on top of Firefox.

could it be that they are writing it in html style, etc. and you are viewing it in plaintext mode which is adding the spaces? ive seen this before - annoying; maybe there is an option to remove double blank lines..
