I read through this and almost forget to welcome you  :o

So Ampa and Josh - Welcome and THANKS.  It's always nice to know that folks will take on a supportive volunteer role to help the rest of us out

Anything you, or any of the other volunteers, can do to help keep mouser sane is a big help to us all.

my sentiments too.

it will be fantastic to see more screencasts.

lynda.com is great and so too is www.vtc.com (same sort of monthly subscription deal).

www.totaltraining.com will cost more but i think they are the worth it if you want to get serious.

i think posting a list here of all the 'tutorial' sites would quickly suffer from what all (or most of) the 'tutorial list' sites suffer from, i.e. repetition/redundancy.

or, maybe, i'm just being negative.

i'd like to see a 'definitive' list of tutorials that really show clear methods for various techniques rather than 'here's another link for a tutorial on how to make a glass button.'

can i just ask, if the new banners follow a completely different colour scheme to the rest of the forum (as it is at the moment), then, will the forum colour layout be changed to match a winning banner that has a novel set of colours?

i.e. are we keeping the colour scheme throughout the forum consistent or doesn't it matter?

my isp has now changed the 'peak time' interval so now i just need to monitor my bandwidth between 4pm and 12 midnight. they provide a webpage that displays my current usage - with amounts broken down between what types of network traffic it is, so i don't really need a special util anymore to monitor things.

i sometimes don't download anything at all - the most i think in one month was 80 gig. sometimes i just get the urge to download everything i can find (to justify to myself what i pay my isp). it's easy to get the gig downloads going when you download tv series and game demos/videos, etc.

sounds like a good experiment to try.

i'll play it just to see the new ideas for all the portal stuff - otherwise it looks a bit too like quake 4 with all the neon lights.

as for it being repetitive - isn't EVERY genre under the sun until you've spent time getting to know the subtleties and nuances? not trying to defend this game or other shootemups - it certainly doesn't look as varied as half-life 2 - i just find the 'games are for kids' attitude a bit out of date these days.

i find things like classical music and opera repetitive and boring - not because they inherently are, i simply have chosen not to spend any time learning to appreciate such things as there are other types of noise i already enjoy.

other than that i think you're right about it being mainly a boy thing, Carol.

vrgrrl may be able to offer a more authoritative opinion on the subject of computer game gender preferences.

ah, i see. sorry, although i may not be using these programs right now (like 95% of the things on my machine) i dream of using them at some point in the future - hopefully before i have to be resurrected from a cryonics chamber.

have you looked on ebay - i once sold steinbergs the grand on there for half the price i paid so i'm sure you'll find a good deal.

i follow Carol's strategy.

not had any trouble following this 'common sense' sort of plan with the free version of zone alarm - over several years.

that 'TaskbarEx' is pretty amazing. love the way you can drag the buttons onto the desktop. great find, lanux128.

i know there are some awfully big good hardware forums around, so you are going to have your work cut out for you building a new one - but i wish you luck!

will there be some kind of novel take on it all? i haven't any suggestions - just wondering what could make a difference...

great work, jgpaiva.

just a quick question: in the shortcut keys config section, do i put...

#F9

instead of 'F9' if i want to use the 'windows' key and the 'F9' key at the same time.

single keys for shortcuts tend to get confused with other programs from my experience - and many double key shortcuts are already taken up (adobe, etc) except for 'windows' key combinations.

i suppose i ought to test what i'm asking in my question - i'll do it in a minute after i've clicked 'post'.

edit:

tested and working.

fantastic. feels like a 'real' program now.
