Thank you for the configuration tip.
As you said, perhaps a new scanner will be the thing to do.

Did notice that Dropbox wouldn't install unless i installed 'something' else during the initial installation process.
Basic installation of Crunchbang takes 10 min. but the other items (printer, LibreOffice etc.) after reboot take over 20 min.

Can't seem to find the 'check for updates' in Crunchbang.

CB is really smooth on installation process and very light on resources (less than 200 rams, CPU sways between 8-50 max. and no swap usage so far).

BTW, think we're swaying away from initial LXLE theme (also light on resources but more intense on CPU) of this thread...

Phew!! Dat's quite the profile!
With the years of experience you have, i think i owe you some 'bloody' respect lad!
(Wonder if the brits still use 'bloody'?)

If i can ask a few more questions about Crunchbang...
1. where's the install option via live session?
2. how to 'autohide' the top panel?

One thing that's nice about LXLE (and Crunchbang) is the sharp graphic interface.
Something i can't say for Manjaro and many more distros.

There's one issue that no one seems able to resolve, it's the fact that Canon does not offer a Linux driver for its CanoScan LiDE70.
I've posted elsewhere in many forums and there doesn't seem to be a viable solution.

BTW, i just took out your Crunchie for a byte on the web and swap usage didn't budge.
CPU usage stayed in the 20's (did go to 40 and 50 a few times) while watching a Youtube, so that's pretty good too!

Well, Distros' newsletter didn't say much about LXLE but the overall experience was a pleasant surprise.
For some reason, the add/remove software program only worked on reboot but that's something i've come to expect from most Linux distros (i.e. headsets).

That too is one of the reasons that makes me hesitate from taking the Linux plunge.
Alot of things just don't seem to run out of the box.
You have to search and search and search before you finally find a solution (if it exists).

How long did it take you 40hz to become a standardized penguin user?

Actually, it was thanks to DistroWatch' newsletter that i discovered it.

CrunchBang is a familiar name but i've never taken it out for a spin yet.
Manjaro has a similar version out over the last while.
Don't mind simplicity of an uncluttered Openbox desktop but i do appreciate (and need) an easy way to install apps.
Manjaros' way to install Dropbox for example (via yaourt -S dropbox command) is not user friendly (from a Windows user point of view) compared to Ubuntu style via software center.

We haven't discussed any Linux stuff much lately...

LXLE is a nice Ubuntu distro i've recently stumbled upon.
It's got a few glitches (mostly on fresh install such as direct install which fails at present time; doesn't seem to capture profile image on install) but other then that, i find it to be the most lightweight and fastest distro at present time.

One of the things that keeps me from becoming 100% penguin user is the equivalent programs to Windows that aren't simply as good.
Any real Windows Explorer alternatives with file preview in Linux?

There are of course many other issues...

If it's anything like Maxthon, it's going to take Opera another three years before they get everything into place (extensions, skins, sync etc.). I don't like Chrome. It's just not as customizable as Firefox (and what was left to hope for in Opera).

All eyes now on Firefox as the only real alternative.

I like VLC, just wish it could be default player without having to do any copy/pasting of urls.

Think i might do a quick re-install of my OS and see.
Hopefully it's not a physical problem but a conflict of programs.

For whatever reason, there seems to be a new conflict with my Logitech headset and Youtube.
Sound comes on and off etc.
Tired of this battle, i was wondering if there's a way to have all Youtube clips (even embedded) open by default within VLC?

Cintanotes is on BitsduJour again tomorrow!

Not sure if they'll have their present beta version which syncs with SimpleNotes ready for the occasion,
but upgrades are free for a year so you'll get it sooner or later for sure!

They've also got tabs on board in this present beta time (and more), so it's a worthy investment (or gift).

That is true 40hz!

However, i find i get much less of any problematic issue with Firefox than with Opera (which i would like to prefer).
With regards to memory usage, i don't know about present Firefox Aurora but Opera-Next and Google Chrome are doing a "good" job at using more and more memory. Something that i would have least expected from Opera.

After reading up a few months ago, on the almost inevitable time to reset of Firefox, it wasn't an easy thing to do (habits) but i think it helped a bunch to keep it at par.

Feedly is pretty good but i still use Feeddemon (Windows only).

40hz, sorry to hear about your issues. 

Resource and CPU usage seem to be pretty stable on my system.
All in all, i would say that Chrome and Firefox use pretty well the same amount.
With a little under 4G of RAM, it's not really an issue anymore.
Most people probably have something like that to run their Windows 7 no?
Otherwise, they're probably better off to run some Linux version.

I still have Opera on board which i find most akin to Firefox but i keep running back to the former.
They should have left it at Seamonkey... (forget what it was called before).
It's unbelievable how they still manage to make it better than Firefox+Thunderbird (with regards to resources).

After tinkering around with Chrome, Opera, Maxthon etc. for quite some time now,
i can say that it's the first time in a long while that i find satisfaction using Firefox.

BTW, Google Talk doesn't work for me in Waterfox (i like to make free calls to U.S./Canada).

Update on Waterfox experience.
After re-installing this browser (just to be sure of CPU spikes and claimed speed improvements),
i can say that there still are CPU issues (non existent in Firefox 15) but it does seem to be better at page rendering.

Have to admit, i'm allergic to AVG (so i guess it made me apprehensive at first).

What can i tell you Curt?
Was it a temporary thing? Could be.
I did notice that nothing made it any speedier than Firefox 15.
Good for you if it works well on your system.

On a similar note, there's a recent post from an Opera user lamenting about crashing issues even a year after his/her initial post at their forum.
He/she seems to have to stick to older version while everything continues to be just fine and dandy on my computer.

Mind you, i haven't finished testing F15 yet.
Still have to see how it responds to 5,000 opened tabs.
I rarely have more than 4 or 5 tabs opened but from what i've read elsewhere,
some people just don't seem to have enough tabs open.

DaddyDave, Waterfox installation worked this time but it uses more resources than Firefox 15.
It also has CPU spikes that i don't see with Firefox.

Tanks anyway.

But i'm really impressed by the overall performance of this Firefox 15! 

So i think i'm going to be content for a long time to come.

I wanted to give Waterfox a spin and encountered same issue as daddydave.
Even worse, i think opting out from installing the "adware/toolbar" i was unable to even run the browser. 
I've got Windows 7 Home Ed. 64 bit at present time so it should work just the same no?

I wouldn't mind donating to different devs for their great work (ex. the addons i use on Firefox) but would have to spend a day to make $5 donations.

It would be nice if Mozilla could make it a one shot deal and that they distribute their donations according to popularity of addons.
They could leave the option to donate to single addons for those who want to give greater tips.

Firefox 15 just shines! 

I've always worked with about a dozen addons and it is a well known fact that Adblock Plus is the major resource hog (a sacrifice i'm willing to make).

This latest version is just superb! 

Firefox is the most configurable browser and i sure hope it will stay that way.
