Best E-mail Client / Re: TheBat Toolbars
« Last post by vegas on May 19, 2005, 01:00 AM »
How did you get the small icons to show up on the toolbar?  I tried downloading some .png & xml file on their website and put it in my directory, but it didnt change anything.

I gotta agree their toolbars drive me Batty! Mine reset infrequently too, plus I couldn't get the icons to shrink down in size. It's such a waste of email space to have these big honkin icons and no easy way to micro-size them. Seemed like a speedy client, and I would have done a longer trial but i can't even import mail from Thunderbird, as far as I can see.  That along with the toolbars led me to uninstall already. :(  I liked pocomail better, it imported my thunderbird mail fast too! But the quirky interface left me to uninstall that too. Back to Thunderbird I guess.

General Review Discussion / Re: A suggestion for reviews
« Last post by vegas on May 16, 2005, 06:41 PM »
Personally I appreciate any reviews that do come. I don't think there has to be a weekly commitment. It's nice, but two weeks might be more realistic for the depth of review purposes & for your own personal obligations.  I'm sure it's just a matter of time before there are enough software savvy people on these forums able to contribute meaningfully (even more than there are now) for there to be more collaborative reviewing (taking some of the work off your shoulders). I don't know. I just don't think you have to go too over-the-top to make this site work, it will come, there are plenty of us 'softaholics' (thanks zaine) out there ;)

General Review Discussion / A suggestion for reviews
« Last post by vegas on May 16, 2005, 06:00 PM »
I like the new day of Monday for the release of reviews. May I suggest posting the reviews (via a private link in the member forums) for members first to review for a day or two, before posting publicly to the site (Tuesday or Wednesday), as there seems to be many modifications, updates, etc that come from member response on each round-up.  Just a consideration, great work with the site!

Cheers

Screenshot Captor / Re: Beta Testers For ScreenshotCaptor?

Wow, I really like the simple layout.  Looks like I will be dumping the very simplistic Screengrab soon.  Good work Mouser.

I think it's always good to look at some freeware alternatives (even if they don't stack up to the big players).  I think Filezilla is a nice choice, also Typsoft FTP Server (http://en.typsoft.com/), which is a nice simple solution.

Let's not foget Total Recorder Pro (http://www.highcriteria.com).  Capable of recording many functions I've needed over the years. Their new audio restoration add-on is handy. Plus some good guides on the website.

Best FTP Server / Re: ASRT: What should we do for 4/23?
« Last post by vegas on April 22, 2005, 10:41 PM »
I would also like to add Typsoft FTP Server (http://en.typsoft.com/) for next weeks review, a program I only recently discovered.  Not very feature packed, but a good simple way to throw up a quick, stable, easy to use FTP server for free. I have tried many others including BPFTP, Serv-U, Gene6 and others, but they have features not always needed.

General Software Discussion / Re: anyone using a nice weather tray tool?
« Last post by vegas on April 22, 2005, 09:38 PM »
I too have been using weather pulse for about a week now on my laptop, slick program, better than the other 5 i tried.
Not to mention the updates have been fast & furious since I installed it.  I noticed some banter back & forth on fileforum
between the developer of weather pulse & weather watcher, although i like interface of weather watcher better, you
just can't beat the transparent desktop weather & how stable the program has been for me.
