Screenshot Captor / Re: 2 Bugs I Can't Live With on Screen Captor
« Last post by mouser on April 13, 2006, 11:31 AM »
hi george, welcome to the site.  love your page!

issue1:
after you draw an arrow by default it switched to object mode where you can now move and resize it.
you should be able to click the arrow tool again to draw another arrow.
BUT, if you like to draw lots of arrows without having to do that, see this post which shows the setting for this:
https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=2113.0

issue 2:
there is currently no option for text box thickness.  I'll put it on my todo list.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Window go out of my way!
« Last post by mouser on April 13, 2006, 10:27 AM »
i think the idea here is for other windows to slide away so they do not overlap selected window.

there are other existing programs for trying to tile or arrange windows so they dont overlap - and interesting algorithms one might use..

Find And Run Robot / Re: Feature Request - alternative matching algorithym
« Last post by mouser on April 13, 2006, 05:02 AM »
this is definitely planned - and in fact you've given me a good idea that matches well with the heuristic scoring algorithm, which is that matching first letters of words should have a higher heuristic score than simply matching in order.

Developer's Corner / Re: Can a program be reverse-engineered?
« Last post by mouser on April 13, 2006, 04:32 AM »
you can be certain there is a huge active underground community of people dedicated to reverse engineering any technology, whether its phones, trains, or software.

there are some well known examples of reverse-engineering software to add features, though most of the time it's done to defeat copy protection mechanisms.

i'm looking forward to reading some replies with good links to read.

this is a brilliant idea. selecting any window should move others off it.
look forward to seeing this solution :)

General Software Discussion / Re: better than using an unistaller? Altiris SVS
« Last post by mouser on April 12, 2006, 10:54 PM »
sounds ideal if it works - i'd like to hear more about people's experiences with it and does it reall isolate a program from doing damage.
32112
yeah the two parts that really registered with me as lessons to pay attention to were:
the one about contracts not being honored, and the one about how he said in the begining he would take meetings with just about anyone and and had to learn to be more selective (and same with taking jobs).  good lessons.

Borland C++ Builder Contest / Re: About program completeness ...
« Last post by mouser on April 12, 2006, 10:40 PM »
that's a great question.

remember that part of the idea of this contest is to help the winners get their programs noticed and used by people, and get them some donations.

so winning programs will be spotlighted on a web page and made available for download and users will be encouraged to try them and download to author if they like them.

SO, it's fine for some features not to be finished, IF the program is still fully usable and useful to end users.

Therefor if it's missing key functions that makes it not a useful tool, then that would disqualify it.  But if it's missing some extra features you plan on adding over time, that's ok, that's just normal software development process.

But remember that the contest doesn't end until the middle of July, so you've got some time left to work on it :)

assuming the goal is to make small children cry, mr.globe is perfect already.
32117
well it might be nice to have a little "reporting from location" segment each podcast, where each broadcase we had a member from a different country/city who went out and asked people "how's your internet?" or "how's your computer?" and see how people on the street answer that question.

sounds fun!! let's do it!

reminds me of this very cool documentary:

the ultranav looks nice!

that's normal - bts does not autoconfigure browsers, you have to edit the config file yourself to add yours (it's just a simple text file, see the help for instructions).

i really should add an autoconfig option to next version, i've just been busy.

but shame on you for not rtfm.
32121
this really seems like a request suitable for browsertrayswitch to me.
don't know why bts wouldnt work for you..

ps.
anyone thinking of writing such a "snack" you might want to think twice - changing the default browser is not the funnest thing and requires some odd registry settings.  maybe you could use an existing commandline browser changer and just add a tray interface.  just giving you a heads up :)

10 Stupid Mistakes Made by the Newly Self-Employed

Having been a non-employee for about 14 years now, I’ve made my share of stupid business mistakes.  I’ve also coached a number of people to start their own businesses, and I’ve seen many of them make similar mistakes.  This advice is geared towards small business owners, particularly people who are just starting (or about to start) their own business...
