as good as NES and colecovision were, nothing can really steel the place in my heart for the atari2600, which had so many games it was enough to drive young children into seizures making their list at xmas:

colecovisio game system was amazing - they had some of the most amazing controllers you could buy..
coleco adam was pretty cool for its time but i guess it came a time when it was overshadowed.

we used to write silly games on the trs-80; there definitely weren't many.
but there was an assembly-written defender clone that was sold that was amazing.  which i could remember the name of it.

Funny idea, and quite astonishing what you can get for a paper clip with random publicity.

you can enter as many apps in the contest as you want :)

shed, if you feel like it, it might be nice to give people a link to scummvm and talk a little bit about what scummvm is and how its used, and what the front end adds, etc.

it might be nice to have a 3rd party commandline tool that could be configured to work with farr in this way.

Oh, and yes, I HATE IT WHEN A BROWSER OR FORUM TRASHES MY POST!

this is why many of us use a clipboard tool like clipboard help+spell or clipmate, or clcl, so that we can periodically while typing a log post do a Ctrl+A and then Ctrl+C, just in case, then it's always in clipboard clips, even if browser crashes, etc.  saves having to type in a separate editor.

you know it took a couple of hours for this to settle in, but a good point in that article might warrant mentioning in my donationware article.

one of the things it points out is that people are geneous, except when they think they might be taken advantage of, and feel like people might be freeloading off their money/work.  it suggests that one issue to address in asking for donations is to assure people this is not the case.

here's another idea for a regular segment:

is there anyone who regularly gets mad at something in the software world, who might want to do a regular 5 min segment ranting against something each month: ie. spyware, microsoft, apple, vaporware, the music industry, etc.

i think it would be nice to have a segment on skrommel and autohotkey in the first podcast.
either skrommel talking himself about how he started getting into ahk and coding, etc.
or an interview by someone here of skrommel.

on a related note, maybe someone could post a tutorial on using something like skype to have an audio conversation over the internet and record it?

game playing AI is one of my favorite subjects - my AI research is not in games but I still love it.

any idea what kind of approach you want to follow?

i.e. do you want to make a program that LEARNS to play:
http://www.research....com/massive/tdl.html

or do you want to try to design a playing algorithm yourself that doesnt actually learn.

Nice short article on how people quickly scan pages and what it means for web developers

Eyetracking visualizations show that users often read Web pages in an F-shaped pattern: two horizontal stripes followed by a vertical stripe...

i would love to have us expand the concept of reviews to encompass things like more general purpose "guides"

like "guide to technical review sites" or "guide to backing up your computer" etc

i also advocate using 2 "program files" type directories, one for programs that use an installer, and one for those you manually place somewhere.

i use the default "Program Files" for installer apps
and "Programs" for manually placed programs.
