Mouser's Zone / New policy - separate beta and stable versions
« Last post by mouser on May 02, 2006, 06:23 PM »
From now on I am going to endeavor to keep TWO versions of each program available at any time:
  • The last stable release
  • The newest beta release

You can see an example on the new URL Snooper page:
https://www.donation...rlsnooper/index.html

There will be separate downloads and help files for each.

This should make it easier to roll back to the last stable version if you ever have trouble with the latest beta, and make it possible to compare the two help pages to see what's new at any time.

Hope you find it useful; I'll gradually be adding this for all my software.

ProcessTamer / Re: Explanations for Priority and Explicit rules
« Last post by mouser on May 02, 2006, 03:57 AM »
hi catt, welcome to the site!

this thread might be useful: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=1263.0

here's some general advice, though others are welcome to correct me:
you should probably avoid setting things to any priority above normal unless you REALLLLY want them to own your pc :)
in general, setting something like nero to Ignore would be your best bet, to make sure it doesnt get lowered.

however, if you frequently run other processor intensive stuff at the same time as using nero, or you experience issues with nero not being able to keep up on a slow machine due to some other process popping up and using your cpu, then you could try setting priority to high.

but like i said, it's almost always sufficient to just set an app to ignore if you ever find process tame lowering it and you don't want it to.

yep, volume wasn't great and was a bit inconsistent.
we will try to normalize it better next time and put it all at a good standard volume.

This sounds pretty damn remarkable. Free as well.  Love to see someone use this to make a game :)

Three years in the making, Inform 7 is a radical reinvention of the way interactive fiction is designed, guided both by contemporary work in semantics and by the practical experience of some of the world's best-known writers of IF.

An easily learned but flexible one-window user interface makes the cycle of writing and testing rapid and painless. Inform creates, manages, edits, indexes, tests, and even helps to publish works of IF without fuss or screen clutter.

i'm happy to add an option to disable the ontop behavior.  very easy to do, i'll put it at top of todo list.

i thought that might be the problem you are having.

watch the video again you will notices that the blue line appears when your cursor is off to the right.
that is the key!

joel is one of the best software writers, and his advice is always ignored at your own peril.

for me, i think you could probably compress most of those into one simple rule:
Keep Track Of Things

i.e.
keep track of your todo list, your plan for the code, your bugs, your schedule, your build process.

what accent does superboyac have?

i have now uploaded the xml feeds for the show, with a TEST audio clip.
https://www.donationcoder.com/podcast

so you have a couple hours to figure out how to subscribe to it and get everything working.  Then at 8pm new york time the first episode of the radio show will be added.  You can just "refresh" or "check" the subscription in your podcast client and it should find it automatically and let you download it.

Important Note:
Please feel free to come by the irc chat channel to discuss the show live!

instructions for using winamp to receive podcasts (from http://radio.sprawli.../#winampInstructions):

  • Ensure you have Winamp 5.1 or later. You can find it on Nullsoft's Winamp site.
  • In Winamp, if the Media Library window is not already open, open it by pressing Alt L or by selecting Media Library in the context menu (usually by right-clicking the main window).
  • In the left pane of the window, select Subscriptions under the SHOUTcast Wire heading.
  • Click the Add button under the Channel list.
  • Bring up the Add RSS Subscription dialog and paste the .xml url.

UrlSnooper / Re: How to get actual file location of a big list of URLs?
« Last post by mouser on April 30, 2006, 02:33 PM »
that's an interesting question actually..
the best way would be to use some tool to open each url on a web page in turn, in a batch process, with url snooper running all the while.  might be something worth implementing if it doesn't already exist.  let me know what you or others can find regarding an existing program..
31874
A little over 4 hours until the podcast is available!!!

Anyone have a favorite podcast client?

Here's what worked for me on windows:

Note that you don't actually *need* a podcast compatible client to listen to the show, you can download the mp3 manually and play it in a mp3 player, BUT the experience is funner with a podcast client and it will subscribe to the show and show you more info, and organize the shows for you and let you know when a new episode is available.

I'm not sure I fully understand what you are trying to do and what is not working.

The only thing you can't yet do is drag and drop multiple items at the same time, which I will add later.

But other than that lbc should have some of the best drag+drop in a tree of any program - i spent a lot of time on that.
Here's a demo flash movie showing how to do it - note how you have to move your cursor to the right of an item sometimes to get the above+below markers:

https://www.donation...mander_DragDemo.html

After you have a look at that maybe you can tell me if it was just not clear how to do something, or if it's still not doing what you need.
