Living Room / Re: ALERT! FreewareBB shutting down. And with a warning from Marko?
« Last post by Deozaan on January 09, 2015, 12:16 AM »
I really don't get it. Why sell the site at all if you still want control over what happens to it? Once you've sold it, it's no longer your baby. Let it go.

Not to mention that I supposed it's possible that the new owner could sue Marko for disparaging him or for encouraging people to give it a poor rating when there's no evidence that it's being (or going to be) used for a scam.

Weird. None of the images will load for me.

I figured it out. All the images on that site are hosted on another domain which OpenDNS has blocked because it (the domain) is in the category of "Nudity."

I found a link to the "art tumblr" and read it there. Thanks for sharing.

There are no 64-bit binaries (Win64) for download that I could find.

Re the 'fixing things' approach (when someone tells you their troubles), that's not just a men thing - a lot of women do that too.

Don't fix things. Just listen. Or something. :P

I think I'm going to get an Odroid-C1. Same price as RPi, and even has a 40 pin GPIO panel that is (mostly) compatible with RPi. But outperforms the RPi by about 4-6 times.

Cyberdiva: You could just buy WhenLast on the Play Store in your browser, and then I think the Play Store would notify you of updates. But I could be wrong about that.

minor: in the dark theme preview above, satellite should have two L's

And while we're being picky, Battalion has two T's and only one L. :D

I'm a bit disappointed that the upgrade is hidden in the Edit drop-down menu. But other than that, this is great news that it really does work as easily as it should. :)

(I'm still waiting for 17.1 Xfce)

FYI "When Last" is the first result for me when I do a search for "WhenLast" on the Play store. (c:

But it's result #23 when searching for "When Last" on the Play Store.

I've found similar results with my own apps on Google Play. Doing a search for "Be Tiny World" shows tens of apps with "Tiny" in the title, but doesn't show my app titled "Be Tiny, World!" until #57. So I just tell people to search for "Deozaan" which shows only my apps. (c:

Living Room / Re: HDMI cables
« Last post by Deozaan on January 07, 2015, 02:13 PM »
I was recently perusing Monoprice for HDMI cables and felt it was a bit of a waste to pay more in shipping costs than in the costs of the cable I wanted, so I began looking for more cables to bundle in with my order. In the process, I looked again at the Premium Micro USB cables which I mentioned earlier in this thread, and read some reviews on them with many similar issues as what I experienced above. So I added my own voice with a review of the cables.

I was contacted by tech support, informing me that Monoprice has a lifetime warranty on their cables and offering an RMA at no additional cost to replace my "defective" cables.

So, if it's truly free (i.e. no return shipping costs) then it looks like I'll be getting new cables. But if I'm expected to pay for shipping costs, then I think it's probably not worth it, as it will likely cost more to ship it than buying new ones would.

Sorry for the "off-topicness" of this post, but since I mentioned it earlier in this thread, I figured I should update everyone on the situation.

Developer's Corner / Re: New EU VAT rules change the game for digital businesses
« Last post by Deozaan on January 05, 2015, 03:23 PM »
I can understand the argument that taxation is legal plunder, etc., but assuming the acceptance of taxes as the status-quo, why is it MY duty to pay taxes to a foreign government because one of their citizens purchased something from me? Shouldn't it be the buyer's responsibility to report his/her digital purchases on the tax form (as required by law) so he/she can pay the legal taxes to his/her government?

Imagine if my kid went into a store and bought a candy bar and then I went to the store manager and said, "Hey, you owe me 30% of the income you earned from my kid because of the tax rule I made for my kids."

The manager would do at least one of these three things:

  • Laugh me out of the store since I have no authority to enforce the tax.
  • Refuse to sell candy to me or my children.
  • Pay the taxes because I have mafia connections and he's scared of my threats.

But since I'm not a thug, and I don't have mafia connections, and I'm not making threats, it would be one (or both) of the first two.

I'm just one guy who makes small things and sells them on an online marketplace (much like a flea-market). I don't have the time or resources to find out where everyone who buys my digital goods lives, learn their regional tax laws, then charge them extra to cover the taxes.

Which means I charge the same amount of money for the "goods" I'm selling no matter where they live, which means I make even less money since now my income will be taxed not only by my own government, but now also by a government which as far as I can tell has no authority to demand taxes from me, which means I have even less resources to figure out how to comply with their stupid tax laws. Which means I may have to refuse to sell to anyone who lives in the EU, which means I have even less money. Which means I may go "out of business" due to all these silly regulations.

Thanks for helping to build the economy!

I still don't understand how or why I should pay taxes to a foreign government, or under what authority they're going to try to force me to do so. This is so confusing. . .

I saw instructions on Kubuntu's website to install Kubuntu Plasma 4 and then use apt-get (or something similar) to update to Plasma 5. Is that an option for you?

What else?

How about an option to totally disable the receiver from saving the message?

"This message will self-destruct in 5 minutes" (or upon closing).

Thanks ewemoa. It seems the issue for me was as simple as disabling 3D acceleration. I can now boot into the LiveCD on VirtualBox without issue.

This is on the 14.10 Plasma5 edition.

If I boot directly to the plasma I get black screen or scrambled eggs.  Just not worth the effort.

I'm experiencing similar video errors when attempting to install Kubuntu 14.10 Plasma 4 or 5 in VirtualBox. I can't get it installed because the graphics are messed up. :-/

Do any of these Known Problems/Known Plasma 5 Problems seem to fit your issue?
