Living Room / Re: Time lapse video (thread)
« Last post by tomos on November 28, 2014, 04:35 PM »
The first time lapse photography I remember seeing was in the George Pal version of The Time Machine

I saw it in the theater when it was first released and was totally fascinated by it(I must have been 9 years old.)  I remember the film got an Oscar for Special Effects.

I found this:

Edit:  Sorry.  Thought I had the YouTube for it but it wants $2.99.  So I changed the link to the IMDB entry.  :(

huh? has it come to this - is YT charging? :tellme:

Here's a stunning landscape / night-sky time lapse video (up to 4k quality)

Photography Tom Lowe
Music Nigel John Stanford

Apparently above is excerpts from a film -- Timescapes -- which also includes slow-motion photography.
Two trailers below:

https://www.youtube..../watch?v=EgKXcQ9PLuc
https://www.youtube..../watch?v=e-GYrbecb88

Not so gone on the slow-motion stuff (the music is apt but doesnt move me either) but the time-lapse stuff is really stunning.

General Software Discussion / Re: autocorrect

I want to type correctly everywhere! in firefox, in chrome, in thunderbird, everywhere!

have you had a look at IainB's link?

I said I am not looking for that type of software, I need something more sophisticated

are you looking towards the future, or are you hoping something actually exists?
If you hope it actually exists it would be helpful to elaborate on what exactly you want -
this was a little vague:

I would like something, maybe with artificial intelligence or something, that will detect the correct thing I want to say

I think that I'd get a fair number of people agreeing with me if I said this is about the coolest music video ever produced:

I listened to it a few times before I actually watched it

Skwire Empire / Re: (Pre) Release: sChecklist
« Last post by tomos on November 26, 2014, 04:15 PM »
tomos - it does work the list entries, but not with the checklists (I tried that already)

OK -
I was testing on my laptop where I seldom use sChecklist - the version I have is not up-to-date:
with version 1.0.5 build 1 -- it works with the checklists on Windows 8.1
I updated to version 1.0.9 build 1 -- and it no longer works with checklists, as you report.

Skwire,  I can't figure out how to move checklists up and down in the panel.
I thought if I clicked a checklist to select it that I could then use the regular up and down arrows to move it, but that didn't work.

 - works with the Control key (+ the arrow key/s).
(This also works for entries in a list.)

The offer to install the Search App by Ask was still there, and checked by default.
Oracle actually offers a solution for disabling those 'sponsor offers': https://www.java.com...q/disable_offers.xml

thanks Ath
that will make life a lot easier, especially helping family that dont know what & when to untick the box.

Living Room / Re: Does anyone here use Bitcoins?
« Last post by tomos on November 25, 2014, 02:41 PM »
hmmm
what I like about bitcoin is that it's outisde the current system.
Does that equate with being rebellious? I dont think so - well not necessarily so. As 40 says, sometimes how you do something is more important, so we may have to wait a bit there.

I dont see this as a 'revolution' in it's traditional meaning -- I think those kind of revolutions never really work anyway -- they're mostly making relatively superficial changes.
What could work is grass roots change -- transformation even ;-)
And to people who think it cannot work -- in one of Antonopoulos's videos he talks about politicians already accepting bribes in bitcoin and this being the start of the end so-to-speak (do you remember which vid that was Ren?).

Re Bitcoin: I'm neither a 'believer' nor a cynic -- but I think bitcoin *is* going to change the world, how exactly, I dont know, but it's made a start already, and even if it fails as a currency, it has opened doors that cannot be closed.

hi boomba212,
I'd say the best route would be manual scrolling:

  • begin a scrolling capture (and select the scrolling option)
  • on the next dialogue window, you get the option to "Let me manually scroll the window"
  • on the next dialogue, select horizontal content, and follow the instructions

No guarantees though ;-)

Post New Requests Here / Re: Move files to folders named after part of filename
« Last post by tomos on November 25, 2014, 05:34 AM »
(just for the record) something comparable was requested lately:

Hello. Would it be possible to add a feature to find common text between files and use that as an name for the folder?
eg we have  files
[Chemistry] Workbook 01.rar
[Chemistry] Workbook 02.rar
[Chemistry] Workbook 03.rar
So the new folder is named [Chemistry] Workbook.

This is doable.  However, in your example, technically, the common text would be "[Chemistry] Workbook 0" right?

that was very helpful, thanks!

I've avoided the 16:9 format so far (well, apart from laptops where it's often a real pain).
Even 16:10 is a big improvement over 16:9 -- if you can find it these days.

I dont think that 1:1 would suit me personally, but it's great to see   -
would be nice to see more variety in the market in the future.

Thanks Curt,
I wonder if Version 2015 is coming soon :-\
Mind you I'm very happy with this one (well, I have the Softmaker version) - it opens all MS Office document formats AFAIK, and does a great job of anything I've tried.

Softmaker usually makes the odd good offer for upgrading from the Ashampoo version to their more complete version.

Developer's Corner / Re: New EU VAT rules change the game for digital businesses
« Last post by tomos on November 20, 2014, 03:27 PM »
not sure what exactly wraith meant, but the big question is how the EU would stop (or punish) a supplier from outside the EU selling without VAT (?)

I meant, if I as a US citizen sold a digital item, and someone in the EU purchased it and downloaded it- then how would they enforce the strictures of these rules against me as a US citizen?

that's what I thought -- but dont have the answers either. But as dr_andus says, they're largely making it work already (via the payment processors).

How is it working in the States -- are there any states successfully implementing their own sales tax for suppliers from outside that state?
