General Software Discussion / run screensaver in 'game mode'
« Last post by Curt on May 31, 2011, 12:21 PM »
For the last couple of days I have played around with various programs, in order to set up a satisfying startup order & procedure. One negative side effect has been that my screensaver suddenly became unstable. I un-installed and re-installed, but in vain; it was as if it was trying to use more memory than available. But it is difficult to alter a screensaver's priority; when the file is running, you can't use any other program!

After several hours I had the idea to add C:\Windows\Endless-Slideshow.scr to Process Lasso's "game mode", and voila!, the problem was solved. I cannot see any problems with a  screensaver added to game mode; my desktop pc is not being "used" when the screensaver is running.

Just a micro tip ;-)

Buy 3 year of maintenance & get no maintenance

-yeah, that can be an issue with bug-free programs: What are you really paying for? The service of the future  or  the clever coding of the past? I think AnVir is worth the price, and I trust it will be updated for Win 8 as well.

I have a vulnerable pc, and yet I have never had any problems at all with AnVir, so I have nothing to say to Carl's comment.

"Today" is Sunday 29 May 2011. Count-down: 21 hrs 21 minutes

RETAIL: $49.95
60% OFF: $19.98.
Including 3 additional years of updates and priority support: $31.96

AnVir Task Manager Pro PC Software with a 60% off Discount Coupon Code - Master Your Operating System!

I my opinion this is The Best task manager to replace Windows' own task manager - I even like this one better than the free Process Explorer. Updates may be rare, but I like to think that this is because it really doesn't need to be updated - at least I never have any problems with my copy. I highly recommend AnVir Pro.

I need to say that license is per year. Mine is for 3 years; quite cheap.

Do we have any users of Startup Delayer 3 Premium here?

When I updated from the first installed version, I lost the Premium features; SD3 rewinded itself back to be a Standard version. Nowhere can I find a place to paste my Premium license code (again), only options to purchase it once more. Cliff is very busy and seem not to have the time to give quick answers.

Did 'you' lose the Premium mode when you updated SD3 Premium?  :tellme:

-Soluto is working very fine indeed, so fine that I already am tempted to give up setting Startup Delayer 3, and re-install Soluto! But I am disappointed with Soluto's two new features, I feel they are silly!

And still Soluto is missing the important option, for you to tell in what order you want your third party programs to start.

By the way: many people seem to overlook that Soluto has the option to close itself after the end of the startup procedure. Also, Soluto is stable. I like Soluto. However, if startup speed is your main goal,  the brand new Startup Delayer 3 is offering many more options, including much more speed - but is so far also less stable.
3111
AWFUL! You had the perfect opportunity to make The Best startup manager ever - Soluto Beta was terrific - and then you make THIS?! Do you really think it is important for a startup manager to tell that I can gain more browser speed by removing some extensions? Do you take me for a complete ignorant? -even an ignorant who cannot figure out how to remove extensions that I have myself installed?

The crash predictor would be more trustworthy if I had the program it was warning me about installed. Yes, that program crashed, that was why I removed it. I don't need Soluto to warn me two weeks later about a program I don't have.

Soluto Beta was terrific; you were close to making The Best startup manager ever! But I got so disappointed with these two new features, that I now have removed Soluto.

Soluto has been updated..., so now I know that my many extensions for Firefox is slowing down my web browser! Wow, all this time I was installing this and that extension, without noticing that Firefox lost speed accordingly! Oh, I am so happy for the new Soluto telling me that I can gain more browser speed by removing some extensions, and even offering to do it for me! Happy me.

I have a key for Startup Delayer 3 Premium - now seems a good time to test it.

General Software Discussion / Re: Your most used SPECIAL programs
« Last post by Curt on May 25, 2011, 07:57 AM »
..., but when I tried Reshade Image Enlarger I came to realize the difference between being fairly good and being the best. I have been very impressed with Reshade. And shouldn't I: The normal asking price is $150 !!!  ...

I thought Reshade Image Enlarger was abandoned, but it turns out that it has been maintained and updated all along. But because the updates all were minor (and seldom), the "update now"-button in the program didn't tell anything - making me think the company has died. They are alive and are now at version 2.0 Pre-release (of 2. December 2010), and promising version 2.0 Final also will come some day. Reshade Image Enlarger is on offer at Bits du Jour today, Wednesday 25 May 2011, but it is not cheap: $100 instead of now $200 !!! I paid $75 incl VAT (instead of $150) when I purchased a license a year ago. I still think it is an impressive image enlarger - The Best I have tried.

Edited 21 June 2011:

General Software Discussion / Re: Youtube and their frustrating changes.
« Last post by Curt on May 24, 2011, 05:40 PM »
I agree with you on most of your complaints, except that both video launching speed and video quality have been improved a lot. HTML5 gives the speed, and HD has long replaced FLV NoDefinition and has really become HIGH Definition; 1080p is becoming quite "common"!

Tips and notes:

  • You should always upload your video in the original format and in the highest quality possible.

Other than that, you are so right. I have stopped exploring YouTube; I only go there when someone has supplied a link.

General Software Discussion / Re: iResizer
« Last post by Curt on May 21, 2011, 12:28 PM »
I need to tell that only my first attempt went well - in fact it was perfect. Every other attempt, ten or so, gave a useless result.

Edited:
Sorry, I said that wrong. You can get fine results from iResizer unless you change the height... (or width, depending on motive and original dimensions). But don't think this program can resize when resizing..., if you know what I mean. 3000x2000  iresized into 1500x2000 gave a fine result, as reported, but the very same original iresized into 1200 x1600 gave a terrible result.
