Backup Guide / Re: Restoring data to a larger system drive
« Last post by nudone on June 21, 2006, 10:32 AM »
my preference is paragon - doesn't look as nice as acronis but i had less trouble with it (acronis didn't want to remember the settings whilst rebooting but so far it seems like i'm the only person that experienced that problem).

the things you are speaking of are a bit too technical for me, superticker, so i can't provide any comment other than my line above.

I have found Acronis email response can be a bit hit and miss - they don't always read the question until you respnd with a snotty comment. Like Mouser I have not had any problems restoring to larger partitions.

Worst scenario restore to a partition the same size and then use Partition Magic to resize it.

i agree with Carol, i've done that a few times without any problem that i remember.

i wonder if you can make a cody giving thumbs (wing?) up or down, as in approval or disapproval.

i'll give it a try (and i have an idea of doing it another way).

my thoughts entirely, Rover. i don't want to try and do the complete set of smilies in a cody style.

i think mouser said something like ones for 'approve' or 'disagree' or something like that.

anyway, i'll do a dozen if the requests are made. i just need to know what size they need to be, i.e. tiny like the current smilies dotted about this page or a bit larger.

(just about to hit post but mouser beat me to it.)

that's fantastic, app103. greatly appreciated and will you please pass on my gratitude to your friend, Sable.

so, to repeat how Sable pronounces it, i would now say 'han-eh-kuh'.

thanks, jgpaiva, that sounds good to me - i think i pronounced it like that for a while and then i just thought one day "i've no idea how to do it as i've never heard anyone else say it" so i became paranoid and just stopped saying it.

Living Room / how to pronounce 'Haneke'
« Last post by nudone on June 18, 2006, 01:34 PM »
okay, this has absolutely nothing to do with software or computers but i'm hoping that those around here that understand languages other than english will know how to pronounce the name:

Haneke

as in the director Michael 'Haneke' http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0359734/

is it 'han-ek' or 'han-eek' or 'han-eh-key' or 'han-er-ker', etc, etc?

as you know i have a thing about pronouncing names correctly so any 'correct' suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

this was briefly discussed on the DC irc channel and i've completely forgotten what was requested so i shall ask again here:

i will do a few cody smileys if anyone asks for things that sound like a good idea - mouser mentioned something in particular but i've forgotten what it i was now

i wasn't really interested in the case modding, f0dder - i just meant have you done any more videos like that - ya know, quick and kinda fun to watch.

maybe we could do some here for DC - i've no suggestions for content though.

« Last post by nudone on June 18, 2006, 03:04 AM »
i wonder if this is a good time to remind people of what the original banners looked like...

i just have to warn you, don't stare too long or you might start to feel ill:

 ;D

maybe we could use that on the anniversary of donationcoder.com's birth - with Cody on it somewhere, of course.

i'd just like to say i feel privileged (as always) to be involved with DC and to be the final winner. thanks to everyone that made suggestions and helped develop the look of the final banner - i certainly enjoy this iterative method of design as it appears to give a rewarding result.

and, one final word.

i can't keep it a secret any longer: mr.globe never went away - he just chose to hide himself.

here's what the full banner design REALLY looks like...

clever/funny idea.

like a modern version of the Monty Python sketch (okay, the python version is funnier but the website has more potential).

ps.
if you are a donating member your ads will turn almost completely off by default.
this effects the CodyQuotes too (because they are like an internal advertisement).

due to popular request, you can control this - so you can turn them back on (or completely off) at your pleasure.  see instructions here: https://www.donation...1228.msg8509#msg8509

when i go to the link above and click the http://www.dcmembers...file;sa=forumProfile link it appears to be dead???

just thought it worth mentioning.

(great job on the new feature too.)

i can't think of anything to add but i do think it's important to occasionally remind everyone or, at least, inform new visitors that is the tenet of DonationCoder.com.

i can honestly swear i've never used anything even remotely illegal - especially cracked software - also, i have never used a computer in my entire life.

thank, kimmchii, i'll try out winpatrol also.

associatethis looks the most powerful app but i'm almost sure i've tried both of these programs a few years ago - i obviously didn't feel the need for them back then.
