I didn't test this program, but bought 2 years right way; the offer was just too good - haha. My only concern is if there is an option to leave the original documents unchanged. Actually, I will never use the program, if there isn't.

General Software Discussion / Re: Partition Alignment increases performance
« Last post by Curt on July 04, 2011, 02:07 AM »
In this scenario, "seat of the pants" is a very valid benchmark.  I have aligned partitions using the commonly available Paragon software and have literally visually seen impressive performance when nothing else was changed.

In the whitepaper, there is an allusion to two transactions being performed per read/write.  I have personally witnessed the lag through the HD LED on the front of not a few computers before and after aligning partitions.  Before alignment, the HD light would flash twice, hence darkness in between.  Once aligned it was a solid flash with no space in between for the same IO transaction in Task Mgr.
-SchoolDaGeek (July 03, 2011, 06:32 PM)
At the same time I would of course like to hear if any one has tried this.
Does it really  - dramatically or less than dramatically - improve performance ?
 :tellme:

-thanks, SchoolDaGeek; you've answered my question

the offer is generous and tempting: $10 instead of $129...: wow! Version 3 was launched 16 December 2010, so it is still quite new - hopefully not a soon-to-be-replaced-by-a-major-version offer. (?)

Today I updated my Mozilla Thunderbird to the brand new version 3.1.11, and was surprised to see that version 5 now is available. Even a so-called 5 Final. And here I was waiting for my extensions to be updated for version 4!

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Writing Outliner for MS Word
« Last post by Curt on June 27, 2011, 05:08 PM »
-the above quoted offer is again/still available. The bundled offer is tempting ♥ , but:
>Microsoft Word 2000, XP, 2003 and 2007, or 2010 (32 bit only)<

Hello ,

This email is here to announce the new release of Writing Outliner v1.5.

New Feature Highlights

    New: Export entire project data
You can now export all documents (including the meta data) from a project to a folder in your computer – you no longer have to worry about vendor lock-in.
    New: Project-wide global replace
After doing a full text search, several string replace options will be provided for replacing the matched strings in you project documents.

New: Copy, cut and paste documents
Now you can copy and paste documents within a project with the new copy and paste new commands available in the outline view. You can use these new commands as a compromised solution for ‘document templates’.

And the software user manual is complete now!
Click here for more details about what's new...

The "New/improved features in this release" is quite long and interesting.

Perhaps I should wait until they act on Your suggestion and bring out a new release ...
-IL1keT0Donate (June 22, 2011, 01:21 PM)

Today (This software was available as a giveaway on April 1, 2011), the Developer is going to reward 3 best improvement suggestions with a lifetime license for Audials One 8 Platinum. So share your valuable ideas and win the prize!
-giveawayoftheday

Don't think the rewarded suggestions have to be clever ideas! The person who suggested this portable program should be made portable, also received a free key!!
Quote from: Curt's suggestion
Make it possible to launch only one part, (example: shortcut in Start: 'Open Converter'), in order to save eons of launching time.

Now I can add: >Don't think the rewarded suggestions have to be clever ideas! The person who suggested they should Make it possible to launch only one part, also received a free key!<, because Tunebites is exactly just that: a part of AudialsOne!
:-[
-so don't "wait until they act on (my) suggestion"!

I strictly use it for DRM removal. Open but not doing anything, the memory usage is 262 MB. The slow launching is mainly because of  the high number of various initializations  and the extreme number of radio stations checked  and the fact that launching AudialsOne really is the same as launching 5 different programs at the same time. My pc is merely equipped like your notebook. E-mail support is for customers - new normal price right now is $60. Audials Tunebite is a part of AudialsOne, so Tunebite may actually be a better solution to me! (you?) - right now the prices begin at merely $26.90. A license is per major version's number - the store has no option for a lifetime key.

General Software Discussion / Re: Quizo QTTabbar
« Last post by Curt on June 19, 2011, 11:05 AM »
-which means The End of ShiningMasamune's use of the QTTabbar name - maybe QTabs will be the new name. It also means that any recent copy of QTTabbar must be completely removed before any new-coming version is "installed". However, the new guy is young, and idealistic about the project, so for some years I guess it will keep on being a fine tool.

Nice find, mouser.

Readers should be aware of the author ("Priit L")'s way of thinking: if a program has many options, it will get a lower rating, say 4/5 instead of 5/5, with the reason: "too complex for beginners"!

General Software Discussion / AV Media Copy (transfer playlist content)
« Last post by Curt on June 15, 2011, 01:09 PM »
These posts were placed in "IDEA:", but I think the little free program in mention, AV Media Copy, is worth knowing about in general - more people than JeffK and me must sometimes want to copy a playlist's content, the actual music files, to another location without burning anything:

AV Media Copy: http://www.avsoft.nl...ows-media-player.htm

... find a program to copy the music files in my daughters Windows Media Player 10 playlist (.wpl file) to another directory while maintaining the original folder structure.  AV Media Copy from www.avsoft.nl does something similar ...

-excellent program!

It hasn't been updated for more than five years, (yes, this is a very old thread), but I had no problem at all, installing and using it on Vista. The GUI is logic, the procedure easy, and the copying is fast. Of course it can handle several playlist file types, including M3U playlists, not just WPL. The organization of the new folders were not important to me, so I just unchecked that option, and all 372 files from my playlist were soon gathered in a new folder.

a better link: http://www.avsoft.nl...ows-media-player.htm
The msi installation file is merely 428 Kb
(look for the sentence: "Download the application here before you go on."

This little program made my day. Thanks for telling, JeffK

I have just used AV Media Copy to update the above mentioned collection, using the same long playlist. The program didn't protest or ask silly questions, it just skipped the already existing files and copied the two new files into the folder.
Yes, AV Media Copy is old, and it has extremely few features, but they work.

Edited:
It should be said that Media Copy specifically needs Framework 1.1
